Full Version: Consolidation shows up as Collection on TU
CreditBoards > Financing > Student Loans

I've been paying on 5 student loans since graduation. They were at Nellie Mae until 2000 and then were consolidated into one loan at Sallie Mae.

I pulled my credit report and saw that Trans Union was listing five student loans as currently in collection under the name 'FL Student Loans" from 1999 (I graduated in 1995). I'm assuming something happened during the consolidation process that created this as a collection entry, but no one has answers.

I've called my University, they sent me Stafford. Stafford sent me to borrower services, borrower services sent me to Federal Student Aid Borrower tracking. They said there's nothing amis.

What should be my next steps to get this off my Trans Union credit report?

Thanks

It just says FL Student Loans on the report. No one has had a clear answer as to what that means except they must be Staffords or Perkins loans. I'll try the place you posted and let you know what happens. THANKS!!

Sen TU a polite but firm letter asking the name and contact info of the reporting entity.

They have to give it to you, or you can go after them hard. If you have disputed this with TU, then you have the right to contact the creditor who is reporting the information.

Will do. Are there any form letters with this (I'm not being lazy, just want to get an example of the appropriate diction for the situation)? Thanks again!
