Someone on babycenter.com mentioned this site. I came to check it out and have learned quite a bit. A lot of the info doesn't pertain to me (I'm Canadian, and cccs etc are a bit different up here) but the money management forum is really informative.

I found this board a while ago, and thought it was a really good resource. But, I didn't bookmark it, and tried to find it again. Then they changed the design of it, revisited, and I couldn't remember the name or if this was the same place. Glad I found it again. The information a vailable in the search is a tremendous help.

I was a moderator on the now defunct Fair Credit Movement web site. I had been on the site for a few years learning from those vets, many of them were duel members. Tyrelle, georgiaboy, psychdoc, and others.
I came here as another member name (whish I kept that name, I was probably member number 150 or something

) I joined for good and for real after the founder of FCM disappeared and closed her site. It's too bad too because there was a lot of good stuff there. There is more good stuff here but there were specifics of my repair I wish I had hard copies of

I was doing my daily internet search on credit repair, and I found creditscoring.com. From creditscoring.com I linked to Clark Howard and from there I linked to creditboards. This board is TERRIFIC!!!! Since finding this sight about a month ago, I already have been approved for a Patelco Visa Gold with a CL of 10K. I may apply this weekend for the Patelco M/C as well.

Another newbie here. After a few years of being in denial, it was time to wake up and get educated. I'm going about this the way I go about everything I don't fully understand; read, read, and read some more. I got hooked on MSN Money and found their forums, which mentioned this place. After browsing around for a couple of days, I decided you guys had the information I was looking for. I hope you guys can help me make sense of the mess I've gotten myself into, although I'm still a bit hesitant about making an actual post. Don't want to be the annoying newbie who asks repeat questions! Is it ok to jump in or should I lurk for a bit longer before asking questions? Anyway, hi!!

I found this board through another message board. I'm a current college student with an already rough start to credit history. I have just decided to get back on track with my credit score/report.
Over the past three years (since turning 18), I have tons of inquiries from applying for too many CC's, only one Cap1 with a measly $300 limit, and no bank account because I have a charged off account with a bank, that I am just now getting around to paying off. I did a free Lending Tree credit score finder earlier this year and the score reported was around a 530 or so. I would like to get within the range of "good" credit by the time I graduate. In about a month (or less, HOPEFULLY), I will begin the process to better credit by ordering my score report from myfico.com,
I look forward to being a CB Success Story!
By the way, does anyone know if I can order my own myfico.com score/report using a friend's Debit card? The person would sit while I order and enter her info, but the report needs to be in my name.

A while back I joined a site that had a lot of great info for getting started on cleaning up my credit. However their member forum was quite lame. It could go days without a post. The only thing I ever got from their forum of any value was a suggestion to check out CreditBoards.
The members of CreditBoards not only answered my questions. but have also given me many ideas on how to add new lines of credit.

I found this thru a Subaru General Discussion forum.
I find it interesting since I worked for Discover Card for 10 years, spending the last 6 years working ACDV's, and the last 2 years of that focusing on the "103 Dispute", or more commonly known as Identity Theft Claims.
Curiousity has the best of me and I can see myself searching this forum for things I know, things I didn't know, especially bad information.

Last year i was talking to a friend about purchasing a home but my credit was bruised and he directed me here. I came to the site once and took one look at all of the info, it was too much for me. I was a busy woman and didnt have much time. i never came back that year.
This year i started a new job and a co-worker was telling me about the site. Tired of renting and being a NEW business owner I took interest in the various forums and have made family and friends here on cb ever since. Its the best

I think this is beating a dead horse, but 2 examples:
Sending a letter RR will intimidate the OC to handle the claim faster. False.
If you dispute the balance on your TL, send an ID dispute. False.

no one said that sending it RR would cause an OC (or anyone) to handle claims faster...it's suggested to send it RR so you can prove when it was received if/when you end up taking the DF to court over their violations
no one has EVER suggested sending in a claim of ID theft when it wasn't true (and if they did, they got jumped on by the vets here). Claiming something isn't yours is different than ID theft...the account, as listed, is NOT the consumers. It's up to the CRA and DF to investigate the TL and discover what's wrong. Also, rarely does anyone dispute the balance of something. There's generally many, MANY things wrong with the TL as listed.

They're sent CMRR so that you have proof that it was received. Intimidation is a nice little "extra" with some CA's, but agree that OC's are not easily intimidated. If you dispute the balance on your TL, send an ID dispute. False.
This one takes some explaination.
Referring to collection agency accounts, sending a "balance incorrect" dispute implies knowledge of the account. Counterproductive when you want it deleted.
"not mine" sure isn't the dispute of choice if you need an OC balance corrected. We're a discussion forum, not a CRO. You'll see all kinds of discussion posted here. Some from long standing members, some from new folks.
We try our best to correct things that aren't right, sometimes you'll have to read an entire thread and not just the first post or two to see the entire discussion.
We've had posts titled "new credit file with an EIN" and the first post or two seems to advise using an EIN in place of your social #.
You have to read the whole thing to see that we do NOT(!)recommend doing that-
Other times, things that appear "wrong" actually have a sound reason behind them albeit not an obvious one. Ask- we'll explain the "why" part if you are interested.
