Letter from collection agency but I paid the original creditor in full
spoiltmom replied to spoiltmom's topic in Credit Forum
It's confusing yes. Actually the OC cancelled all my charges and said that I didn't owe them anything. So since they are cancelled I don't even have a cancelled check or anything to show I paid you know what I mean?? -
How do you dispute something with a collection agency when in fact the debt was yours yes, but you paid it in full and have a zero balance with the original creditor? It's odd because I didn't actually pay it, there was a mix up. I called them and they cancelled the charges. I got the collection letter a few days ago. I called the original creditor today and they verified that the charges were definitely cancelled. Where to go from here?

I had to have a medical procedure done and due to pre existing conditions we weren't sure insurance would pay so we applied for Care Credit. We were approved with a $15K limit but now our insurance has decided to pay in full instead. Here's my questions We won't use the Care Credit card now but last week my loan officer at the bank said we shouldn't cancel it b/c it will help our credit score to leave it open but not use it. Is that right? Should we keep it and just put it up or should we cancel?

If it helps any we bought a used mini van 3 months after our discharge. We applied online through Cap One and Chase. Cap One approved at 17% and Chase denied. Then our dealership sent our info back to Chase and they came back at 12.9% with $1500 down. Dh had been at his job for 5 years and was making more than enough to cover all debts.

We are almost 1 year post BK 7 discharge. In October we financed a used Mini Van at 12.9% through Chase. Our credit union said they would refinance it for us once we are 1 year post BK. What I'm trying to figure out is their rates are based directly on your credit score. Which credit score though? Our scores range with the 3 credit bureaus. The lowest is Experian and Equifax and TU are about 75 points higher. I want to know what I'm looking at first before I go through the trouble of trying to refinance. According to their rates where we already at 12.9% our rate with them may be higher simply b/c our score is below 700. Any advice? Since the discharge all bills are paid 2 weeks ahead of time except for our mortgage- it is paid 1 month in advance. We have obtained the van loan and dh has 1 credit card in his name. We never charge it to the limit and we always always pay it in full before the due date.

Our bills are all paid off so these may just be random telemarketers I'm not sure. We have caller ID and keep getting calls from a place called First Dartmouth and another called Accatel. Do you know who either of these are? For a while there we were getting collection calls for my parents and that maybe what these are also I'm not sure.

So I just pulled dh's TU report and all it lists is our mortgage, the new vehicle loan and the Cap One card. All are in good standing, paid as agreed, $0 Late. IDK what their problem is.

I tend to agree with you. However, according to OP they only have one other card (Cap One). Although Hooters is not the best card by any stretch, it will still build history UNTIL better offers come their way. Card was declined and that would make me upset due to the embarrassment factor (only happened once with me and was Amex. Wait, twice other time was Discover because it could not authorize for anything under $1). Also if an annual fee was paid, may as well drag it out for that year until due again. Some people don't have the luxury of being picky when they're trying to rebuild. Exactly! We are trying to build our credit so I don't care what symbol name or anything else is on the card as long as it's a positive tradeline!

They told me I would have to contact Transunion b/c they pulled dh's TU report and that's why they decided to close the account. Hmmm you could be right though maybe I should make sure that everything looks right.

We've only had it since September and we've always paid it in full every month. We've never even gotten close to the limit on it but I tried to use it today and it was declined so I called them. They said we have too many revolving credit lines open so they closed it. The Hooters card is in DH's name and all he has is a Cap One Card and a new vehicle loan. Both of which are paid on time every month. WTH? I'm almost positive we even paid an annual fee for this stupid card and the lady said even if we did it's non refundable. I'm fuming.

What do you know about the law office of John P. Frye?

He just said that he needed to speak with her. He wouldn't say why. He kept asking if I was her and I kept saying no I'm not. And he said are you sure your not her? Yes you salamander I'm sure you've called my home phone if you'll do a reverse search on my phone number Google will show it registered in MY NAME not my MOM's. Then he kept insisting that I really was my mom and I was lying to him. That's when I told him I need his address to send a cease and desist letter b/c I know my rights and I know that's he not legally allowed to harass me. Of course that made him mad but oh well. I passed the message on to my mom and her response was_ Oh Well. I have no money to pay so I'm not calling him back. You just do what you have to do to make him stop calling you:( Irritating. She has several debt collectors that call me and I can't change my number b/c it's also the number on Dh's business cards. If she's not going to deal with these people she needs to at least give me some money to pay for all these darn letters I have to mail out:( -
I've started receiving phone calls from the office of John P Frye. They are not calling for me they are calling for my mom but the guy was a complete A$$ and I thought I was my mom and was just lying to him. I got his address so I could send a cease and desist letter but now I'm wondering is this just a collection agency like their website states or she is now in some sort of serious legal trouble from not paying her bills?

I need to see our accurate scores and find out
spoiltmom replied to spoiltmom's topic in Credit Forum
What's the difference in the score watch and quarterly monitoring? Which is better? Thanks! -
What's going on with our credit. We were discharged from a Ch 7 this summer. We had a vehicle loan through HSBC. We didn't reaffirm the loan but HSBC thought we had so they were reporting to our credit. Our lawyer finally straightened it out and they took the car back. Now we got a new car loan through Chase. I need to see what our current scores are and we also need to make sure that HSBC takes the auto loan off or at least updates it to included in BK. We were late on it during the last 45 days of the loan b/c we were ready to give the car back. So we kept the payment to use on a new loan. Where can I go to get our real scores and see our credit reports?
