  1. So, after following the advice from some pretty awesome people on this forum, I sent in two certified letters to a collection agency - only, I haven't received a reply back from them. Here's the background. I received two different collection letters for a bill that I feel I did not owe. So I sent in a letter for them to show me the proof that I owed. They only sent me back a copy of the bill in question, but it did not have my recent payments on it. It was for $119.00. It took months for them to send that. Whatever, I just want it gone from my credit report. So I then sent them a letter requesting a pay for deletion. I sent it certified, I received the signed copy back, and that was in August. To date, I have not heard from them. I'm not up for a free copy of my report yet, so I have no idea if its been removed, or still there saying I owe it. Should I send them another letter? What type of recourse or action do I take? The letter stated they had a certain amount of days to reply or something like that... I got the template from this forum. (Also, this collection was sent to TWO different agencies, trying to collect for the same thing. What should I send to the "other" agency to get it removed from my credit report? Thanks!
  2. I could really use some help from all you experts! Here's my situation - I have two CA's on my report for the same debt. I didn't think I owed the debt, so I sent a request of proof to the one agency that actually sent me a letter in the mail. The other one I have not heard from at all - I only know what it was for because I pulled my report. Well, I just got word back from the one CA that I do ow the debt, and they sent me the info from the place that I owe the $119. My records are off, I guess, but I digress. (we moved across the country, and it was a utility bill that I thought I had paid off completely) I want to send them a payment for deletion letter (never hurts to try). I originally sent out the request for proof in april! It's been way past the 30 day mark... but on the info they sent me, there isn't a date!! I can't prove that they took way longer than the 30 days. I don't have a problem paying the debt, but I want to try and get it removed first. So how do I get the other CA that is on my report to remove their negative report? They never contacted me, and aren't handling the bill. How can two different CA's be after the same debt? I feel that it shouldn't be on there because they aren't the company even working on it. Any ideas? Any help? I have NO idea what to do from here. Thanks so much, I truly appreciate it.
  3. Are you saying that you want to remove old, positive tradelines that are helping your score from your credit reports? If you would like to remove them, you could dispute them as obsolete and they'll be removed, but there is absolutely no good reason to remove them from your reports. Positive accounts fall off naturally after 7 to 10 years from the date of closure. As far as the collections accounts are concerned, you should send them a debt validation letter. Mention that you first noticed them because they are reporting on your reports and that they haven't contacted you yet (so it should be considered timely under the FDCPA). Be sure to include that you dispute the accuracy of the alleged debt. Hi- thanks for replying - no, I don't think they were in good standing when they were paid off, so getting them removed would be better, right? Thanks for the info for the letter. I'll send them one and see what they say. I'm STILL waiting on a validation from the second agency that it was reported to! It's been a few months now.
  4. Hey all - I have some questions about some cards on my credit report. 1.) a victorias secret card that was opened in 5/2001 and closed a few months later. It is still showing up on my report as paid or paying as agreed, and was last updated in 2003. 2.) a fashion bug card that was opened in 5/2002 and closed shortly after, and was last reported on march of 2009. Status is paid, closed. I thought that after 7 years these these things were removed from your report? Why are these still there and still being reported on? How do I get these removed? Also, there is a report from a collection agency that was then turned over to a different one, for the same account. (I'll note that I don't owe this, and have filed a dispute with all cb's and with the most recent ca that I received paperwork from and it's being worked on now) How do I get this first collection agency off my report because they never contacted me, and the account has been turned over (or bought out?) by a different one. I didn't learn of this first one until the second one contacted me and I then got my free credit reports to dispute it. Any suggestions? I'm not very savvy when it comes to these things, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!
  5. I have no idea how to word this, so I'll do my best. On October 28th, 2009, I received an email from Experian about my findings, and I could view for the next four days with a report number, etc. I printed it out because it detailed that a collections was removed from my report from the place where my truck is financed. The credit union (where truck is financed) said that it would be removed from all three, but it apparently wasn't, (I'm just dining this out now) and I need to send in the documentation to the other two bureaus to get it removed. I've been working on it, but now I can't find that piece of paper that I printed out detailing the removal. it detailed the the collections was the credit union's error, and to have it removed from my report. I sent in what I had to the two other bureaus several weeks ago, and today I received something back from transunion, but they investigated the wrong thing! They investigated a late payment from over a year ago, instead of the collections I specified from the same credit union. How do I go about getting another copy of that finding? I still have the email they sent me, but obviously it doesn't work since its way past four days. I can't find an email or a phone number that would lead me to a human anywhere. What should I do?
  6. I've been trying to get a collections removed from my credit report since I first noticed it in October. On my credit report, it is listed under agency A. I wrote a dispute to them, etc, and haven't heard back from them despite my attempts to contact them. I have never received a letter, phone call, etc. from this company about this supposed debt from the gas/electric company from the state we previously lived in. I only found it because I pulled my credit report dealing with something else on it. Last week I received a letter from a different company, agency B, for the same debt. I have written a letter of dispute to them with all my supporting documents. I haven't pulled my report, but I'm assuming that there will now be two collections reports on there for the same thing. I want to clear this up with agency B, because they have actually made contact with me, and their letter was actually friendly. (shocker!) What do I do about agency A? They reported it, but haven't done anything about it. How do I get them removed from my report? There isn't a phone number listed for them on the credit report, and when I google it, I get an automated message to please leave a message and an agent will contact you soon. (they never have) Any suggestions? And I hope that this all makes sense! Thanks!
  7. Thanks so much! I want to get this out in the mail asap.
  8. I know that there are big scams going on right now with gift cards, especially with ebay. People buy the cards and spend them, then file a claim with paypal that they never received the card, or that there wasn't a balance on them, etc. and they get all their money back. Also, people are getting discounts using bing rewards, ebates, etc. and get some of that money back, so they are in fact, actually buying the card for less.
  9. Forgive me for being a noob, but I can't seem to find the correct addresses. I need to send in supporting information to get a collections removed from my three credit reports, and I can't seem to find the correct address to mail the info to. And stupid me, I didn't write down any of my log in information, so I can't access the websites of said credit bureaus. Is there a link on these boards that someone could kindly direct me to? Thanks so much! Melissa
  10. I paid it online, so I wasn't really waiting for a final bill. This showed up after I had already finished paying the balance on the bill.
  11. Hi! Thanks for the reply! I did dispute the electric company one online when I noticed them. It wasn't removed, so that tells me they are saying I still have a debt there. I am wondering what I need to send them to show the balance has been paid. They need to provide the burden of proof, right?
  12. Hey all - I just had the limits on one of my cards reduced substantially - the letter I received said because of credit collections - that's what tipped me off... so... I got my free credit report and found that there were two items on my credit report that were false. One company - the bank we actually have our truck loan through, found the error and it was removed from experian. Online I wasn't able to dispute it with the other two companies, they said I had to mail it in. My question... what do I mail in to dispute it specifically to get it removed from the other two companies? The other one was for a collections from an electric company that says I owe 160 dollars from when we moved. I have a banking statement that shows the last 50 dollar we paid for this bill. I know we do not owe a balance. I also never received a notice from this company, nothing to my forwarding address, which was my mothers home, and no phone calls, etc. It is on my credit report but they (including the collections agency) have never attempted to contact me about it. What do I need to send to them in order to dispute this and get it removed from my credit report as well? I have read something about they need to provide proof of debt or something? I do have a print out of the last payment that we made, but we soon switched banks and I no longer have any statements from the back for our online account. (its the major reason why we no longer bank with them - they never sent written statements to us) What can I do about this one? It's ruining my credit! So... after all of this is fixed, can I send some sort of proof and get my credit limit reinstated somehow? I see why now that its so important to check your credit report! I had no idea that these were on there for over a year! Thanks so much!!! Melissa
  13. hi all - this is my very first post here! A friend referred me here and its been a big help! now, on to my question!! I have no idea what to do... my hubby has a private student loan through acs lenders education finance partners for like, 23k and the interest rate just went up to 15%! The payments are almost 400 a month, which we can't afford, and I want to consolidate it with another company, but I have no idea what to do or where to start. Its currently in hiatus because he's in the military, but the payments are scheduled to start in july. He doesn't have great credit, but we need to find lower payments. Is there anything we can do? Thanks for any help - I am trying to take care of this for him because he isn't able to. Melissa
