When they were backed by CIT I received increases and was actually up to $4500 all done automatically. Once webbank took over they actually DECREASED my CL down to $2500. Perfect pay history, never late or OTL, utilization WAS less than 50% until they decreased the CL. The reason I was given for the decrease was that I wasn't paying my balance off quickly enough. I have paid this credit line off several times in the 10 years I've had it.

I would have paid it off if #1. we hadn't spent most of 2009 unemployed and #2. Actually knew I was on a no interest plan! Somehow that slipped by me with the online statements. Regardless, I am sorry this happened and agree that it is harsh and somewhat predatory even... but barring extenuating circumstances, to space out on the terms on financing expensive equiptment that you cannot PIF is a huge misstep, chalk it up to experience but really can't let something as important as terms of financing slip by, esp. if unemployed. I agree 100% and I do know better. Problem is I didn't KNOW I was on a special financing plan at the time I made the purchase so even though I would look over my statements, it didn't catch my eye for whatever reason. I knew what my interest rate was, what item(s) were being financed, the total balance and payments due. ALWAYS paid more than the minimum sometimes by a lot, sometimes by just a few dollars. Same old story that many people have with different CC's. I can understand a CLD since it is THEIR money, what gets me is the sneaky underhanded way in which they did it.

The new law states that they are supposed to notify you 45 days in advance of any MAJOR derogotary changes to your account. I think a $2000 CLD is a major derogatory change, ESPECIALLY now that the added interest puts me OVER the new CL which kills my utilization and drops my scores! I also believe that the new law states that for the last 2 cycles before a promo expires they are to apply anything over the minimum payment to that charge which they did not do for the last payment, which is the only one that would apply. Not true. The notification requirements do not include all forms of AA. They have to notify you in advance of new fees or changes in rates not due to default, but they do not have to give advanced warning for credit limit changes or card closure. The provisions of the law relating to payment application did not go into effect until 2/22, so prior to that they could allocate payments however they wanted to. If they did not allocate the payment the way you wanted them to, you may be able to call and have them change where the payment was applied. I tried calling but they are sooooo difficult to understand. Since my payment was made AFTER 2/22/10 they were bound by the law but I guess the India scripts don't tell them that. I sent to e-mails but so far have gotten no response. I will be sending a snail mail letter to Dell itself telling them why I will no longer purchase their products as well. I have been a great customer for over 10 years and of course they do not appreciate my business so I will take my business to someone who WILL appreciate it!

In a nutshell, had a promo expire before I could pay the item off so I was hit with the back interest. Promo expired 3/2/10. On 3/3/2010 my CL was decreased to just above my balance. New statement cut on 3/8/10 and with the added interest from the promo expiration pushed me over my "newly decreased" CL by about $50. I thought they weren't allowed to do this anymore?

Although my interest rate is high at 20.99 at least its not 30% plus! Again, I will pay it off but keep it open for the age.

So India finally picked up and gave the tired old spiel of how it has to do with my payment history with them, which is perfect for over 10 years, and my credit report which the only baddie is almost 4 years old. I responded that I was so sorry to hear about THEIR financial difficulties and that I am sure they will continue as treating good customers in this manner will cause them to lose those good customers. Oh well, nothing I can do about it since I won't close it because of its age. Will just pay it down and let it sit. Told the guy that their CLD just persuaded me to switch to a MAC for my next computer.

Logged onto my Dell account that I have had for over 10 years to find out they CLD me to just $250 above my balance. Went from $4500 down to $2500. On perpetual hold with them right now to find out what they will say is the reason. I believe there was a buyout of the accounts a while back. Although not looking to spend anything it just killed my utilization. So just a heads up to everyone and I will post what their reasons are if they ever pick up the line and take me off hold.

I have used Commerce since approx. 2001 and always loved them. Checking, savings and Heloc with them but no CC's. NOW, however, since TD Bank took them over I am not so thrilled with them. CS is not what it used to be although its much worse at other banks but I've noticed that now its TD Bank, they adhereing strictly, and I mean STRICTLY, to things like deposit laws. When it was Commerce and either one of us had an unemployment check to cash it was no problem, we were able to cash it without making a deposit and be on our merry way. Now that its TD Bank we have to deposit it and be happy with only $100 on the first business day and so on and so forth. OR if they do cash it, they take the amount of the check and credit it like a deposit, then debit it for cashing AND put a hold on the entire amount less $100. They are no longer my primary checking account. I use them strictly to pay CC's and the heloc and only deposit enough money to cover whatever I am paying that day/week. All this being said, I cannot recommend them for any banking relationship including CC's although I've never had one with them. I figure if I don't like a bank enough to have an account with them then I won't like their CC's either. Once my HELOC is paid and my CC debt has dwindled more I will probably close them down totally. I suggest going with a credit union. I opened an account with one recently and am working on building a relationship with them for the future.

If you DV them they go away quickly. I dealt with them last summer, one DV and pffffftt! they were gone. -
Problem bypassed, not problem "solved". The problem is the unnecessary and inexcusable delay in posting an ACH payment. Not much different from the good old days when Providian would unnecessarily hold check payments and delay posting, for which they were severely punished. This is 2010 - a customer should not need to travel to the store and pay in person just to get their payment posted in a timely fashion. (Edit) Needed a little more color ... Has the payment been applied to balance and is just not showing in your available credit? As long as it is applied to balance owed there is really nothing you can do but wait. They don't HAVE to give it back to you in available credit because it is "their" money. I just went thru this with Target as well. It's effectively like a temporary CLD. Also, check your terms and see if there is any notice about this in there. In mine, its stated that they can "hold" the payment from available credit for so many business days for any payment amount over $200 unless it was cash paid in the store. From what I was told, it seems that they are getting more and more returned payments from customers. Although I don't like it, I understand it and can't really fault them for it.

No, it has nothing to do with my bank. Target Visa has decided that any payment larger than $200 can be placed on a credit hold for 5-10 business days. Its in their terms but they never actually did it before. Even though the payment cleared my bank and I could prove it they still would not put that money back to my available credit until after 5 business days had passed. When I complained to a stupidvisor I was told that since it was applied to my balance owed I had nothing to complain about because it is "their" money and they don't have to let me use it if they don't want to. Can't argue with that (well actually I could) because they are right.

They held that payment from available credit for 5 business days. They did apply it immediately to my balance though. From now on, any payment I make to them over $150 will be paid by cash IN STORE. I had put a lot through this card every month considering the limit is a measly $1500 but now I think it will be nestled in my sock drawer for a while unless absolutely necessary. Trying to get back to paying for everything using good old cash.
