sadly having an education doesn't prevent someone from being an salamander...met plenty of those in my career... Edited for profanity by brazen "you are an salamander" is not a very good argument. Had you gone to school, you would have known. Bye bye

You know what? The right online school wont be an issue. Employers, the vast majority at least, understand why working adults use online schools. My employer actually encourages it and offers parternships with several of the larger schools. Your assertations are ridiculous. They were accurate 10 years ago but not so much now. Most recent studies have shown that it does not, in fact, make much of a difference where you went - it matters that you went. +100..quite a number of the traditional/accredited brick and mortar schools offer online classes/degrees... I agree. I call BS too. There are many brick and mortar out there that have online degree programs as well. Rigorous admission? You expect adults returning to school to compete with just out of HS folks with a 4.0 GPA and parents bankrolling their education? Please. Not everyone can afford Ivy League, or top of the line Universities. There is a reason for some of those that offer admission at 3.0 GPA as an adult learner coming back, to give everyone the opportunity to go to school. I attend a top of the line University, in the top twenty five for law and medical school. Guess what, I came in as an adult learner as well as a less than a 4.0 GPA. Oh, and revelation, they offer degree programs online as well. Your theories and ideas are outdated and simple minded. Sure, anyone can get an education these days. Doesn't mean its worth anything. Your argument that everyone somehow has a god given right to an education is something I don't agree with, and would not like to argue about. There's plenty of Devry graduates who can't even compete with people who have just a HS education. Devry can in no way compete with Harvard, and that's a fact. That's all I'm pointing out here. Again, I have no issues with online degrees (although I like traditional classrooms better). If you can go for an online program at Harvard, that would be great! However, scammers like Devry or Phoenix anger me a lot. And yeah, I'm done here, because you couldn't come up with anything other than a silly insult. Good job, Brazen! You can sleep peacefully tonight knowing that you made me cry, because I care oh so much about what you think of me!!! Now, I'll get back to daydreaming about attending Harvard!

Again, I have a problem with universities that have little to no reputation, and to me, reputation is the amount of research they publish and the amount of recognition they get for their research. I have no issue with good schools having online classes, but with online universities and many that also have a traditional classroom but conduct most of their business online. If you pick a university that mostly teaches on their campus, but you did their online classes, that's totally fine with me as long as they have a reputation for strong academics, rigorous admission and test standards, etc... Find a tier 1 school (a school that is ranked by US News) that has an online degree program and go for it! Your degree will be worth a lot more than someone getting theirs from Devry. And, you'll never have to mention that you did it through online classes.

Most recent studies have shown that it does not, in fact, make much of a difference where you went - it matters that you went. OP, if you want a good online school that will provide a solid education, I suggest looking at Franklin University. They are based out of Ohio. I spent some time there and loved how they operated. I suggest avoiding Phoenix, they are a degree mill, IMO. But Ashton is also very good. As for your major, what do you want to do? Business is always marketable. Please quote those studies then...I'd love to see them. Online universities are nothing but a big scam. Their admission standards are pretty much non-existent and MOST people studying there end up with good GPAs. How an employer tells WHICH online school is better and which students know more is beyond me. I speak from personal experience. When I was job hunting after graduation, even the crappiest of companies wouldn't call me in for interviews. My friend however (same major) studying at UC Berkeley was getting offers left and right. Encouraging you to take online classes and having partnerships is a different story. My company does that too. Still doesn't make online schools any better.

Since they're accredited, they most likely provide the same quality of education as all the other schools... However, you'll have little to no chance getting an interview call when you're competing against someone from say UMichigan, UIUC, Northwestern, UChicago etc... I don't like how this works and I didn't believe this for a long time, but I learnt it the hard way. In my line of work, school reputation is taken VERY seriously. Everyone on the management team in my company has an MBA from an Ivy League. (My firm has a market cap of $20 billion, so somehow this is working and they have little reason to change).

Online degrees are a waste of time, imo. Reputation of the school is at least as important as what you know. An easy measure of reputation is the amount of money a school spends on academic research. If you just want a degree to show off at family reunions, then it doesn't really matter. But if you have some goals in life that you want to achieve with a degree, then it may be better to research some REAL schools. University of Iowa is good. UIUC too far away?

This just reminded of something I've noticed. Everything on TV teaches you to hate vegetables. Remember the Hidden Valley Ranch ad? and the V8 Juice ad, that go along the lines of "We all hate vegetables, but our product makes them taste awesome". Well, my gf's salamander sister-in-law is teaching her kids to do the same (hate veggies), and that drives my gf nuts. The kid picks a tomato from my gf's garden and goes nuts, and her mom says to her "Eww. Those are vegetables. Here's some ranch" What is the point of a salad dressing any way? You're going to eat healthy, but it is OK to drench the healthy stuff in processed fat, and somehow it remains healthy? Sure, that crap may make the greens take good for some people.. Thats because they're nothing but FAT. Might as well got get a burger with fries.... Vegetables taste great without any condiments. A little bit of lemon juice makes them awesome! I have my double cheeseburger with a large shake and large fries days, but I also have my lettuce, tomato, cucumber, beets, spring onion in lemon juice days. I don't eat that because I have to, but because they taste good. And the best part of it is that I've never been fat in my life.

Woman tries to hand feed bear - gets fingers bitten off.

And they were going to euthanize the bear? For acting instinctively? Same with the orca that drowned the trainer at SeaWorld. I never really understood that... You kill the animal because someone decided to act like a total moron... Proves my theory that 99% of people are completely stupid. -
Finally decided to purchase one so I don't get bored during my 2 hour daily commute. Can anyone suggest something that is decently priced, with a rechargeable and replaceable battery? I liked the Sansa Fuze, but battery replacement requires prying it open.. TIA

Not sure if Patty is short for Patricia or Patrick. My gf loves to watch it and mouse about all the millionaires.

Last member of 65,000-year-old tribe dies...
randb replied to orangecrush's topic in General Discussion
I remember reading about how two British journalists got killed trying to make contact... They thought they'd bribe them with exotic food? lol I'd say, the Sentinelese are the smartest tribe in human history. They're doing the right thing, and the Indian govt should do the right thing by banning anyone from screwing around with the tribe in the name of research. If only the native Americans were smart enough to kill Columbus and any other explorer that tried coming over..... -
I've had my US bank secured card for about 6 months now, and in that time, I've gone from 4 baddies to 1, and 0 positive to 5. My CCT fako went from 550 to 721. I was wondering if there is a good chance they'll unsecure my line. I want to get this as soon as possible because I'll be needing private student loans in September, and this will greatly increase my chance of getting those. 1. Has anyone had any luck getting unsecured with 6 months of secured history with USB? 2. Can this be done with a soft pull? I saw in the pull databae, that someone got preapproved for a 2k limit with only an EQ soft. 3. Is there a magic number I can call? TIA

Some of that may very well happen. Which is fine. They won't have to play by US rules, but the US won't have to assume the risk either. ps: don't move to Iceland. They're still mad. They won't have to play by US rules, but they will do business with firms here. And when they go bust, firms here will be affected in the same way we had ripple-effects in the credit crisis. So, the risk hasn't really been reduced for the US, but all the jobs are gone. Maybe the US is banking on those firms being bailed out by the country they're located in. Not sure if The Cayman Islands or Aruba would be able to bail out Goldman Sachs....
