  1. The accounts that are in good standing have Date Opened: Varies from 2002 to 2005 Date Reported: last month Current Status: Pays as Agreed The accounts that had been late (now rehabbed) are all the in Closed Accounts section and show: Date Opened: Varies (2004 to 2005) Date Reported: 10/22/2012 Date Closed: 08/2012 DOFD: 9/2011 Current Status: 120+ Days Past Due As I said, the only thing that looks inaccurate is the Current Status because that's not the current status, since they are all rehabbed. But I didn't know if when a student loan gets sold/transferred, it's normal or correct for the Current Status to basically be locked at whatever the status was when the account was sold/transferred.
  2. Anyone have any input? I understand that it's unlikely to get late payments for student loans removed, but it seems wrong that the status shows 120+ days late. Is it possible to get that changed? Or is it irrelevant since the accounts are closed/transferred?
  3. So when I replied last time, TU was only still showing Collection 1 and EQ was still showing all 3. So as you suggested, I was going to do the medical DVs, but before I got to that, I got an alert from credit karma and credit sesame about an increase in my score. Now when I check those two sites, TU is not showing any of those 3 collections and EQ is only showing Collection 2. So my question is now that both open/unpaid collections don't appear to be listed on any of the CRA's, should I pay them off (to the OC of course) before they have a chance to get reported again? NO NO NO!! You should NOT pay anyone anything. If they were deleted they will stay deleted. You obviously are mistaken about the validity of the accounts. They are valid debts and I have the money to pay them in full. I just don't want to make a mistake and pay them, then have them show up again as paid/closed collections on my reports again. Should I pay for official reports or can I rely on credit karma that they are really not on my reports right now? Check the back doors of the CRAs Simply never paying them is not an option. Collection 1 is from the health care system that our family's doctors and most of the local hospitals are part of. I can login to my account with the health care system and see the balance. Regardless of what is on my credit report, whenever I take my kids to the doctor or go to the doctor's myself, they will see that balance being owed. Collection 3 is from our kid's dentist. Like the other one, they will still show that balance being owed next time I take the kid's to the dentist. I had assumed the debts would be validated and I had planned to follow this part of the process to pay them: If the accounts are verified AND you receive a response FROM THE REPORTING CA ( Collection Agency) with account details that MATCH your records, you can then pay the ORIGINAL CREDITOR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER directly using the HIPAA letter insert "a", be sure to follow ALL the directions So I have to pay the debts. I just need to know the best way to pay them without doing anything bad to my credit reports.

  5. So for these next steps, even though both remaining accounts are from the same CA, but one is paid and one is open, I assume I send 2 medical DV letters, one for each account?
  6. Yes, I opted out. Didn't have any old addresses to delete because I've been at the same address for over 10 years and these collections were from 2015. I had insurance. They paid. These were from what was left on the bills after the insurance had paid the providers. Yes, I have EOBs. I can continue on in the process. I just wasn't sure because I thought I was supposed to wait until I received a letter from both CRAs and a letter from the CAs. I got a letter from TU, but not from EQ. And I didn't get any letter from the CA (it's the same CA for both the accounts that remain on EQ).
  7. I started with 3 collections. Colllection 1 - Open - on EQ and TU Collection 2 - Paid/Closed - on EQ and TU Collection 3 - Open - on TU only I confirmed the initial dispute letters were delivered to EQ and TU on 10/13 (no collections on EX, so no letter to them) TU sent me back a letter saying they verified the Collection 1 and deleted 2 and 3. I don't think I've received anything back from EQ, although I can't be 100% sure because I'm out of town for work a lot and my kids could have put mail somewhere where I didn't see it. I used one of the free credit report sites just to see what they were showing and verified that only Collection 1 remains on TU and both Collection 2 and 3 still remain on EQ, although they both have "Consumer disputes this account information" in the Remarks. The Remark on the remaining TU account says "Account information disputed by consumer, meets FCRA requirements" So it seems clear where I'm at with TU. But I'm not sure what to do with EQ. Should I just wait longer for a reply? Is there a way I can check on the status of my dispute?
  8. I had defaulted Direct Loans. I completed the rehab process almost a year ago. Since then, I've been making my normal income based payments to Navient. All 3 of my credit reports show a bunch of Navient/Dept of Ed accounts with a status of "pays as agreed", "open/never late", etc. My Experian report has no negatives related to my student loans. My Transunion report has 9 accounts listed as Direct Loan Svc System, all with a status of 120+ days late and a remark that says "Transferred to another office". My Equifax report has 9 accounts listed as U S DEPARTMENT OF EDU AFSA, all with a status of 120+ days late and a description of "Transfer/Sold" All of the negative student loan accounts are listed as closed with a closed date of 2011 or 2012. I have real FICOs based on each CRA Experian: 713 TU: 635 EQ: 559 One other note is that I have 3 recent medical collections on my EQ, 2 on TU, and none on Exp. So I'm not sure how much of an effect that is having vs the difference in student loan reporting. But what I really wanted to know is whether the negative student loan accounts are supposed to be removed from my reports and if so, how do I try to fix that? Thanks
  9. Yes, I'm following the guide. It was clear that we shouldn't use certified or return receipt. Just wasn't sure what "proof of delivery" meant. Now it is. Thanks
  10. I'm sending the initial pre-hipaa dispute letters. When I look at the options for Priority Mail, these are what I see: Adult Signature Required Adult Signature Restricted Delivery Certified Mail Certified Mail Restricted Delivery Return Receipt for Merchandise Signature Confirmation Signature Confirmation Restricted Delivery USPS Tracking The whychat instructions say "DO NOT send it CERTIFIED OR RR SEND IT PRIORITY MAIL WITH PROOF OF DELIVERY ONLY" It sounds like that means I should be using the Signature Confirmation option. Is that correct?
  11. So I'm really impressed with all the info WhyChat has provided, but I'm finding it a little confusing, so I've tried to document the steps in a way that makes sense to me and I want to make sure I have it right. I have 3 medical collections. Two are unpaid with dates in the last 2 years. One is IIB from 5 years ago. Is what I've got laid out below correct? Note the question marks where I'm confused about what to do with an IIB account vs a paid or unpaid account at the very end. 1. Opt Out - Done 2. Obtain copies of credit reports – Done through annualcreditreport.com 3. Get MIB report – Not needed because I have an uncommon name and no identity theft issues 4. Delete old addresses – Not needed because I haven’t moved in 8 years. 5. Send INITIAL HIPAA DISPUTE LETTER (also called pre-hipaa letter?) (referenced on http://whychat.5u.com/hipaadisp.html)to each CRA: a. Hand addressed b. Hand written c. Attach a copy of the credit report page with accounts circled d. Include suggested text e. Send Certified Mail (without delivery confirmation) f. Refuse any request to have results transmitted via internet 6. Wait for results from all 3 letters. 7. If disputed accounts are deleted from all credit reports, stop here and keep hard copies. 8. If accounts are verified and nothing is received from CA, send MEDICAL DV letters to each CA: a. Referenced on http://whychat.5u.com/ltrcavalhipaa.html b. Typed and business like c. One version for paid accounts or another version for unpaid accounts d. Each envelope to a CA should include multiple letters (one for each CRA they are reporting to) e. Send Certified Mail (with delivery confirmation, but without return receipt) f. Print out online proof of delivery g. As soon as I have proof of receipt, send FOLLOW UP LETTER to each CRA: 1. Include account numbers and report number and copy of each MEDICAL DV letter with proof of receipt 9. If accounts are verified AND I receive a response from the reporting CA with accurate details, send HIPAA LETTER to OC: a. Referenced on http://whychat.5u.com/hipltr.html b. Send CMRR c. Address to HIPAA Compliance Office of the OC d. For balance due accounts, use insert a and include cashier’s check or money order with “For Deposit Only to the Account of (name of HC provider / OC) and original account number or SS# and dates of service. e. For paid accounts, use insert b f. For IIB account, ????
  12. Can anyone answer the questions on whether I should follow the HIPAA method for the IIB account and how much it will help my credit if I can get these collections removed?
  13. One more question. I've read that medical collections impact credit score less than others. So I guess I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to go through this process of trying to get them removed when it means I'll have to pay the full $1000 vs seeing if I can settle the debt for less, but have it still show on my credit report. I'll probably be looking to finance a used car in the next year or so, but I'm not planning to buy a new house or anything.
  14. So I just got official copies of my 3 credit reports and I actually have 3 collections. The first is the one I mentioned above. The second is a $50 collection for a dr. visit that hasn't been paid. The third one shows IIB (chapter 7 discharged 4.5 years ago) All three have a classification of medical/health care. So I'm assuming I should use the HIPAA method on the two that haven't been paid. Should I include the one that was IIB as well? Thanks
