  1. So, I have a balance of $455(still paying montly on it) since they closed it last year. It says closed by consumer/paying as agreed on report. I called and they won't give any discount on the balance so I can pay it off. Can I dispute it as INVALID then to see if they can take it off.lol I was planning to stop payment on it so it can go to collection. And then maybe the collection agency can give me a discount but the down side is that it's the oldest CC on my report(since 07) the rest are 1yr old.
  2. Is it currently listed as a charge off or just reporting as late. Tribute closed all their cards last year but it shows as closed by consumer..paying as agreed on my report because I still pay monthly on the balance but I'm sick of paying the $10 maintenance fee even if it's closed.
  3. Any help will be appreciated. I have $470 to pay a closed tribute card and I need them to give me a discount which they say they can't. So what happens if I don't pay the card? I can't afford the full. At least I can pay $300 but they said no. Opened 3yrs ago the only longest card on my report, The only things on my report are student loans and 2 store cards(target & Jc penny) and Hsbc all 1 1/2yrs old. So what happens if I don't pay the tribute? It goes to collection, CA contact me, I ask for discount/settlement and ask for update as paid in full on report? How bad will it affect my report as collection account? is it worth it? Or how do I go about doing this? thanks in advance!!
  4. Same here. They have finally closed down as of 09/11. When I called, I was told it will show has "closed by consumer" but will not have a negative impact, If there's still a balance, it still has to be paid, the $10 monthly fee will still be charged until it's all paid in full, - will show paying as agreed and if it's all paid off, it will show, "paid off- closed by consumer".Thats what I don't understand here, If the company closed the account, why show "closed by consumer"
  5. It seems to me that when you use the card more..they increase the limit...I got the JCP card in Jan 09 $500 cl ...every month I shop, either online or in store...sometimes I pay it all up, sometimes I don't..May 09 I got a letter from them saying they increased my limit to $800 automatically..I went online & saw it..I called & it says i've got CLI & it's been effective 5days ago...
  6. hummmmm I bank online & do direct deposit however I had an overdraft of (-$10.09) about 2 months ago for a jcpenny card, I thought I had enough money left to pay that card off, so I didn't bother to go online to check my balance right away. Well, I went online 10days to my next direct deposit & noticed the overdraft & the message they sent to my inbox. They paid jcpenny the money but charged me $34 overdraft fee..making it $-43.09: the next day they took off the $34 leaving (-10.09) & sent me another message the same day they credited the $34 6days later I deposited a money order of $11 bringing it to (.91) & 3days later the direct deposit went in & I'm back on track with them. they aren't that bad...the only thing is that..i'm walking around with a Chase Bank Card & a Wamu Check Book...don't like chase..so I think i'll probably be one of the last person standing when Chase finally takes over(if they do) Dear Valued Customer: We recently notified you about overdraft activity on your account (see the account number and amount above). 7. You dont know much about student loans do you? Lenders/servicers like salliemae and citibank file default claims upon default....they get their money from the guarantor. They are effectively out of the picture. The guarantor owns the debt and you have to work with who they tell you to work with. humm I have never been in default before. I might have a friend (who has been in 120days default with 2 collection letters & now she is back in repayment with SM) to come share her story & how she did it then. I assume the ""guarantor didn't pay Salliemae & own the debt"""
  8. Yes you can request deferment before repayment begins only if you CALL THEM they will be able to help you out especially in this current economy... yes bld08 is right..depends on who loaned you the money...Salliemae forebereance 3 months (private loan) and Deferment 6months(Federal loan). good luck
  9. Why don't you deal directly with the people that loaned you the money rather than the collection agency(They probably will negotiate but the agency wouldn't becos of their own fees) e.g SallieMae......will rather luv you to deal with them directly. Citigroup will work with you...credit union (the best) & Federal loan will either ganish ur check or get you on tax season until you speak with them....so not sure Who you took the loan from. I think something like this was recently posted by someone else...search & read through. goodluck.
  10. Salliemae probably haven't received any money from the Dept that releases you from these loans. They want back the money loaned. SM is messing around with your credit in order to get the money from you since no-one has paid them back. Salliemae policy..(if loan was taken out from them it has to be repaid by the student unless the school returns the money). You need to call Salliemae & give them a copy of that letter and also call the Dept of Education to communicate with Salliemae on your behave....and once it is all said & done make SM fix your credit report a.s.a.p becos they are slow in reporting. I once went to a private school too & the school took out a loan for me ($3000)..it never came to me..it went straight to the school..but that school didn't close down so I had to pay that loan back. And please make it swiftly becos SM don't play....goodluck
  11. You might get some Stanford but will still need private loan for the Nursing Program please don't go with Salliemae if you have to take a private loan...try credit union or with your personal banker..
  12. I hope someone can really give an insight on ur situation. They're probably doing that cos they know you are working... Salliemae can be very imposible sometimes...all my communication with them as been online until I had to call to postpone payment.. I started my repayment 2008....was able to pay for 11months(paying minimum) until now.. I have a private($3000) & gov loan with them... I asked for a deferment on both loan. They said they only do forebearance for private loan with a $50 fee to process for 3months & my government can defer for 6months with no fee. I wasn't sent any papers to sign..i just called them up..paid the $50 over the phone & it was process that same day with a confirmation #. 3weeks later I got an-e-mail asking me to login to my account & check new update...there I found out that all my loans will be due in 3months. .probably them found out I'm back to work I plan going back to school in fall2009(graduate school) & I'll ask the school to just call SM for a deferment on all loan tilll i graduate. you are allowed ""Forbearance which lets you suspend or reduce your student loan payments under certain circumstances and for specified periods of up to one year at a time.""quote from their website. you are going to have to fight them for not processing your forebearance papers you sent to them & I hope you read through those fine-prints before signing & sending it back to them....
