I know this may be resurecting an old thread, but does anyone else have advice that's in more detail? I'm essentially looking for a low risk way to make my money grow and having a problem finding enough information on enough topics to truly comprehend which option really is the best one. IRA? Roth IRA? Annuity? So many options, so little understanding. Thanks in advance for any help guys.

Yes yes yes yes it will help. I've read it everywhere. GET ADDED AS AN AU IF THEY HAVE GOOD CREDIT.

Right now I've got about 18k in savings. What should I do with it? I have no debt or anything, but figured that I could use half or more of my savings and maybe put it in a CD or something... good idea? What are some other options?

How did you go about contacting the office of the president?

All righty. I'll send that stuff tomorrow and see what happens.

Just found out the discover card is going to be a $500 CL. Not too bad. Citi said they wouldn't accept my letter of acceptance or scholarship but would accept a "bursar letter". I haven't seen one of those so... I'll have to consult my mother.

Ehh... I don't see anywhere where you recommended to start at MTVu and said do not apply for discover. I see somewhere where you recommended those three. I read all of your posts multiple times BEFORE applying, so if I missed that part I wasn't intentionally ignoring you I called citi today and they said they sent a thing in the mail and want me to confirm I'm a student. I don't have anything to confirm yet seeing as how I haven't paid any tuition bills and haven't gotten an ID but orientation is next week so we'll see what I get there. Sorry about that bosox, anything else I should do? I am puddy in your hands.

Just got approved for a discover card. WOO! Forgot to ask what the limit was though. Got a call and had to put my dad on the phone to confirm I was a student. I am incredibly grateful for my parents. One of my best friends couldn't go to college with me even though he wanted to because he didn't have the money and didn't want to go into 40 thousand dollars worth of debt. He was forced to take a local school. The only thing is now my mom is kinda like "You don't need my help!" when I ask her about the AU thing. I'll keep pushing her to do it... I think she will eventually. AMEX did decline me due to lack of "6-month old tradelines" - which I realized means I have no credit. I didn't get a response from citi yet. Discover card accepted me.

bumping this question THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP SO FAR!

Also, (Since there's no edit button) what exactly is a minimum payment? What if I don't charge enough money on it to meet that? Say for instance I only eat out once and it's like 5.50... then what?

Questions: The only thing about secured credit cards that scare me is the fact that they have a deposit. What would be a reason for them to take that deposit money away, and how long would they hold the money? (Is it ALWAYS a year? I'm fine with giving the money up but I don't want to miss some fine print and then have them take it from me.) Here's another thing to consider.... My credit union says that they have a card for college students that starts at a $500 CL. Is this a good option? I still have to apply for it. I didn't really gather much other info about it.

The reason they gave you might well be persuasive with your mother as far as getting you added as an AU. My mother and father have not added me as an AU. As of right now, the only things I've done involving credit are: Applied for 3 CC's. Opened a checking account. I got denied before I opened the checking account. (I opened the checking account the day I got denied. The form said they had the authority to pull my credit info but that's irrelevant.)

Amex just declined my application. Reason: Thank you for your recent application for Blue for Students from American Express. We value your desire to establish a relationship with us. We regret that we are unable to approve your request for the following reason(s): Information received from a consumer reporting agency. (See below) The factors provided by the consumer reporting agency that affected our decision are: The Profile report does not contain any tradelines that have been open for at least six (6) months. ---------------- Someone care to explain what this means? I don't see why I should be getting denied for STUDENT cards, even if I have no credit. I thought everyone else was in my position......

Today I applied for amex blue and discover student. The only problem I foresee is that they ask how much income I have, which really isn't much. One thing that may help with discover is the fact that they asked how much money I have in the bank. Am I supposed to apply for these things online? That's what I've been doing.
