  1. Seriously. I WISH I had that problem. When I first started coming to this site, I had scores in the high 400 - low 500 range. Now, whether to use Amex or Discover is my biggest credit problem. It's a crazy feeling! This discussion is interesting. I applied/was approved for Discover More & Amex cards a few days ago, since all of my others are Visa/MC (albeit with great rewards). I haven't checked this site in awhile, and didn't realize Discover had such a bad rep on the board.
  2. Ditto this. I also closed in April. I'll give you more info if you send me a PM.
  3. These are breathtaking! Wow! Do you mind me asking which cruise company you used? I'm going to Alaska in August. It was a dream vacation that my parents were planning before my Dad passed away, so my husband & I are going with my Mom instead. We're doing a Princess Cruise-Tour with 6 or 7 days on ship, then another 4 days on bus & train for tours.
  4. Congratulations! Was that the same address you used when you filed your 2008 taxes? I closed on my house on 4/22/09 and mailed my amended return on the same day. I still don't show any status on the IRS website. Were you able to get status of your refund on their website? I checked the IRS website at the beginning of last week (so, after the check had been printed), and it gave me the generic "no info found" message. I think some people have had success with calling to get a status, but I hadn't gotten around to that, since I wasn't expecting it for several more weeks. I don't know if it makes a difference, but mine was mailed to the IRS in Austin, TX.
  5. Reviving this thread to say my $8000 check was cut on May 29th, a mere month after we mailed our amended tax return. I definitely looked like this when I opened the envelope! I wasn't expecting it til July or August after reading stories on here. It was mailed to my old address, not direct deposited like I'd expected it to be. I'm not complaining, though My old landlord was kind enough to pass it on to me, since our mail forward hadn't gone through yet, apparently. Any updates from y'all?
  6. I LOLed when I saw the subject line, so I'm signing in Mailed off my amendment last week on Monday. I wish it would hurry up! I did the amendment through turbotax, and when I printed, it said it would be direct deposited (like my initial refund). I didn't see anywhere on the 1040X or 5405 that included my bank account info, though, so I'm not sure if that's true or not. I doubt the IRS magically keeps my direct deposit info, though it would be awesome if they did. ETA that now I totally want this shirt:
  7. I wanted to post, since I truly wouldn't be a homeowner now if it were not for this board. I closed on my house a week ago today (thanks to Brian B The Loan Professor!). Our original closing date was scheduled for April 15th. That got delayed, as it's been for many, due to the mortgage company being backed up, so I got an extension through April 24th. The bank kept wanting different documents, which was understandable, but still kept me on pins and needles. I'd been stressing about closing like crazy...until I got a very unexpected phone call at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning (Apr 21). My Mom called to tell me that my Dad (who was 66) had a massive stroke, and was in the ER. I rushed over, and stayed with them until we took him off life support. He passed away at 8 that morning. It was very sudden, and definitely one of the worst days of my life. I contacted Brian, and he assured me that he would take care of getting the closing scheduled, for me not to worry about it. Later that day, I got word that we would be closing on Friday, 3 days later. Closing went very smoothly. We showed up at 3pm, signed and signed and signed, got a bunch of keys, and were gone by 3:45. The builder stayed to wait for the bank to transfer the money so he could get a check, and I asked if I should stay, too, in case something went wrong. Even after I signed, I still didn't totally believe that they wouldn't come back and say, "Oops! Nevermind! No loan for you." It's been a week now, so I think it's officially ours I had to laugh at closing when I saw our final GFE. Our payment (PITI+PMI) is 89 CENTS more than our rent for the last 2 years. I got an FHA loan, 30 year fixed at 5% with a mid score in the 660's or 670's. I'm happy that I finally own a home, but it's definitely not as relieving & exciting as I'd been expecting over the last few months. I know that those feelings will come after I've had some time to process everything. I just want to say thanks again for sharing your collective wisdom with me during the last year, and a special thanks to Brian for all of his help. He definitely talked me down from the ledge more than a few times when I'd email him as a bundle of anxiety Best of luck to all of you!!
  8. Any updates for the end of the week? Still nothing here They did a final review yesterday, and decided that they needed a letter from DH giving me permission to use the money in our checking account, and a better copy of my bank statement. But instead of being immediately reviewed after getting those docs yesterday morning, I went back to the bottom of the pile for reviews, and probably won't hear anything til next week. The builder's agent emailed me today asking me to "tell her what's going on," since we were supposed to close on the 15th. Ugh. I really sort of feel like I'm losing my mind. I need to get a grip. I'm just stressed and anxious. The appliances I want to buy were on sale last week, and the sale ended yesterday. The washer & dryer alone are $400 more now. My landlord has been on me about wanting to show the house we're renting to prospective tenants, so I'm going to have an open house of sorts this weekend, and need to get the house presentable for that. I'm so tired, but I'm having trouble sleeping. I'm going to have to buy some unisom or something tonight, because I know that not sleeping isn't helping my stress level.
  9. Good luck!! I'm very jealous Here's to hoping my closing will have happened by this time next week.
  10. I agree with this. It's very unlikely that rates will stay this low for long. I'd go with the fixed rate. I'm not very big on risk, though.
  11. Got word today that we're definitely not closing tomorrow. The mortgage co. is backed up with reviewing docs, so it may be a few more days before they do the final review on mine and clear us for closing. I'm hoping for early next week now. I know it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but I'm tired.
  12. Hmm. I guess I should check our contract to see if we'll be charged if we don't close tomorrow (the contracted date). Still no word from the underwriter who is doing a final review of our conditions paperwork. I have my fingers and toes crossed that I'll hear today that they've cleared us to close. At this point, I'm just hoping to close this week. I've given up on tomorrow. Anybody who says that buying a home is fun is out of their mind!
