  1. We have been using a homebuyers club to help with credit for building a house. They provide our 3 bureau report and score and we have been working off their simulators. Because we are just a couple points away from our mid 620 I pulled each CB report off their website. Besides score differences, there are items on the 3 bureau report showing up as on a CB report; however, when I pulled each CB report it's different... example: 3 bureau report says: Collection A reporting on TU, EX, EQ But on TU and EX it's not listed... Thoughts?!?
  2. I still haven't figured out FICO and FAKO yet although I've lurked on here for years... The scores from our homebuyers club and the scores from the CB websites are different...the mortgage company will use the homebuyers club scores? Heres what we have: DH from homebuyers club DH from each CB EQ 613 EQ 630 TU 615 TU 643 EX 548 EX 599 Me from homebuyers club Me from each CB EQ 614 EQ 559 TU 597 TU 626 EX 627 EX 641 The homebuyers club should be more accurate based on what the mortgage company will use? With the CB scores, we would have the mid score of at least 620 to qualify...but on the homebuyers club we are a few points away from the minimum 620 mid score....
  3. No significant balances...Only1 car loan and student loans...no credit card debt but . 12 inquiries since 4/2013 but 9 are from the mortgage company (2 authorized and 1 I don't recognize.)
  4. My husband and I have been going through the process of building and using the builders "homebuyers club" in order to increase the credit score. Our house will be done at the end of July or early August...but we are still a few points away from the minimum 620 that the builder is asking for (we can do a lower score but then we get bumped out of our house because of "mortgage shock" since we downsized last year while the house was being built... Anyway...we are sitting at mid scores of 613 (DH) and 614 (me)....SO close...Our homebuyers club has no recommendations for us to increase the score that last 6-7 points... I just opened a NFCU account last month and was approved for a CC with $7k limit (which didn't change my score at all). I'm wondering if they would have even slightly higher scores if we tried with them; or if they would finance us with our current scores... Any ideas on last score increase, NFCU mortgage, etc?!?!
  5. Did anyone figure out the difference in the credit scores that several members noticed when applying for NFCU?
  6. Nice! Congrats to you! What else did you have on your file besides 2 secured cards? I have a TON of student loans-all in deferrment right now as I'm in school. I have the a secured USAA card, secured Cap One, 8/2012 repo, 5/2012 unpaid collection for $876, unpaid collection for $25 from 12/2009, and 2 paid collections. Scores from 5/22/13 credit advocate (home buyer help) credit pull Experian 623 (26 items listed--all old student loans that everyone else deleted) TU 597 (13 items listed) Equifax 614 (Only 9 items listed)
  7. Just went to NFCU and opened my account. Had to wait for my Sponsor to figure some things out with her account. No waiting and fantastic customer service. Started membership and opened with Checking and Savings and applied for Cash Rewards card. Was approved for a $7,000 credit limit with a 620 score and only 2 secured cards (one at $250 and one at $300)! WOW!! Totally impressed and in awe! I've struggled with credit and finances my entire adult life and other than auto loans have never had that much credit! I plan on waiting a month or two and trying to see if I can qualify for a low rate auto loan. THANK YOU all for putting your experiences out here! Very impressed with NFCU and it's only been an hour of membership!
  8. Hmmm, maybe I'm wrapped around the wrong axle... There are a lot of "write off's" at tax time. Medical expenses, interest, and the wear and tear on a car used for business, etc. Because I pay those throughout the year with my NET income; doesn't mean that I earned any less (gross or net). I'm not getting "dinged" on a mortgage loan application for paying medical expenses or interest on my student loan. Why do it with mileage reiumbursement? In your example, I still made 40K...regardless...and if I take a standard deduction versus and itemized deduction all I'm doing is reducing my TAXABLE income. Not my income. Deducting the amount that the government can TAX me on. The company doesn't pay for mileage. They pay for gas and they pay salary. If the company did pay for mileage then our income would be INCREASED by that amount not decreased. Utilizing the IRS deduction is an attempt to recoup some of the funds that were put out for those things after taxes...by way of of decreasing our taxable income. We've had such a hard time with the whole mortgage thing...there is always an issue...I'm just about to give up on the American Dream....
  9. I'm looking to get an account with NFCU too because I'm see a lot of leniency from discussions on here. I'm not military but trying to have my sister sponsor me (her hubby is a Marine). My score is about 620 right now; hoping for an unsecured card once I obtain membership. Wanting to also either trade my current car in (preferred) or re-fi in the next month or so to get my payments down from $470. Let me know how it works for you with your scores.
  10. Just found out that I'm in this same boat. They are deducting the unreimbursed business expense from the taxes from the annual income. Doesn't seem right, especially when it's mileage reimbursement. My husband drives for work and the company doesn't offer the standard $55.5 per mile reimbursement so we utilize the tax deduction. No income leaves our hands for the mileage so I don't understand why they take it off the top of income as an industry standard. Can anyone help explain?
  11. Fabulous! Thanks for your help! I'm going to give the OCs a call and see what I can do directly with them! Thanks so much. Shan
  12. Thanks MidCity; That's what I was thinking. I should just call the OC and see if I can work something out with them. I would HATE to pay a CA with all their nasty tackets. I think it was you who mentioned something about forgiving a hospital bill? Do you know if that happens often or how to go about it? I suppose just ask. Thanks again! Shan
  13. Sorry, don't mean to be pushy, just would like a little advice, so giving a self serving bump. Thanks! Shan
  14. Hi everyone, I've been reading CB for years and have started (and stopped) my credit repair many times. I would like to buy a house soon and have a few things I need to take care of before I can get a mortgage. The first couple of questions are regarding medical accounts with the CA. I've read all the posts and realize that I should first dipute, in writing (purple ink/yellow paper) with the CRA's. There are 3 medical bills (one from 9/07 for $150 ER deduct; one 8/06 for $179 for anesthesia; one 8/06 for $937 from Hospital) and for the sake of time; I'm wondering if I could just call the OC to make payment arrangements; however, I have read that some people have trouble with the OC. I know we (credit repair subjects) should avoid the CA at almost all costs; and wonder if it would be feasible to make the payment arrangement with the CA (if not the OC) for removal from the credit report. Has anyone ever tried this? My mortgage company wants anything within the last two years paid; anything 2- 4 years for a letter to be written for underwritting; and anything older than 4 years is disregarded. So, second question, is if the CA on a medical collection account is providing inaccurate dates; what's the best way to deal with that without opening the proverbial can of worms? The actual DOL should be greater than the two years; however, they are reporting from 12/06 when is was actually 1/06. (I also realize that two of the above mentioned accounts are just about to that two year mark, but I would like to get this done before August when those bills will be at 2+ years.) I have disputed with the CRA (electronically) and am waiting for the response; but wanted to have the next step because with previous experience (myself and other CBers) I know they will come back as verified and might even update the date to something more current next month! Thanks everyone for your wonderful questions and answers. You all have provided much needed guidance and insight!! Shannon
