I'm 22 years old (college student) and I have really bad credit. I blame this on the fact that my mother had no idea how to manage her money, and neither did my ex boyfriend, so I'm stuck with a lot of debt (credit card debt) that was mostly his. I have, within the past year or so, learned to budget my money and not overextend myself, but I'd really like to work on repairing the past.
I just requested my credit report from Experian, and it's not looking good (5 positives and 9 negatives). I'm a little disappointed that it's not showing my cell phone, my old apartment, or one of the credit cards that I have (Plains Commerce Visa). Would these be on either of the other reports?
Also, I've noticed that I have a few negatives (collections accounts) that seem to be just purchased debts that keep getting repurchased by others. That's not really fair, but collectors don't play fair, and I know this. How do I go about getting these corrected? I'm prepared to pay them off, but how do I go about that?
Any other advice is definitely appreciated!
