  1. Will do, again, many thanks for the advice...I had just read so much and I wasn't sure where to start, or if a letter was even worth it. Now, I have a plan
  2. Thank you! I will get a letter out ASAP, sounds like I have nothing to lose.
  3. Bit of background - I declared BK 2 yes ago and my credit has been recovering with increasing scores. I recently received a collection letter from Todd, Bremer & Lawson, Inc., about a 3 yr old debt. It was an emergency loan for $500 from my school. From what I understand, it's not a federal loan - I have those, but more of a private loan. Still, my lawyer for my BK said I couldn't include it. it's now been past 30 days from receiving the letter (stupid me didn't really know what to do with the letter til now). I did sign a promissory note, and the SOL in Va is 6 yrs (the state where I went to school) and 5 yrs here in NC where I live now. Is it too late to send a validation letter? From what I've read, since its past 30 days from receipt of the letter, they don't have to respond. Should I pay the $850 or offer a lump sum? Ive read that i shouldn't make a payment plan. I'm trying to improve my credit, so this is really weighing on me. The thought of going to court is, frankly, terrifying. Thank you for any info!
  4. I'm pissed, my HSBC MC dropped from 2800 to 1500 with an 1100 balance. Then, saw my HSBC Discover drop from 2000 to 1380 (????) with a 1000 balance. Time to balance transfer those bastards. I couldn't believe my eyes, tried to call them, got put on hold forever. Then, I saw this thread and noticed I'm not alone. I give up calling them, I'll get the same spiel. I had a perfect history with them, no lates. Bastards!!
  5. I think it's because I had a Providian card back in the day that was included in my bankruptcy (I haven't received the denial letters yet, but I believe Providian is linked to Wamu somehow). It was TU pull, and I have 2 inq's on there, so I know it's probably not because of inq's. Sigh. I really wanted the Petsmart card too. OH well. Hopefully you'll have better luck!
  6. I got declined 3 times thru these stinking mailers and they keep sending me more. Jerks.
  7. I have the white iPhone too and I love it. I switched from a Sprint Palm Centro and would never ever go back. I still have my Sprint contract 'til November...I may have to try the dispute cancellation fee thing myself!
  8. Thank you! It'll help tons with my utilization...I feel silly for being so excited
  9. I am so excited! My dad is retired Army, and he became a member today thru the new policy; he retired in 1991, and the new policy allows him to still become a member. I have a BK from '00 and figured, there's no way I'll get approved for an Amex. Whaddaya know, boom, approved for 5k. I decided to try my luck with an MC too...and 5k approval as well. My Equifax just jumped from 657 to 673 today...maybe that's why? Boy, that made my day! I'll add these to the credit pulls database. I'm also a member of NFCU...and now with USAA, my life feels complete
  10. Sigh. Thank you both very much. It's what I was afraid of, but hey, what can ya do? Thanks again for the advice!
  11. I just started school as a PhD student with a measely stipend. Right now, I have a part-time job so I can pay the bills, although it's pretty much against school policy (since I'm being paid essentially to learn). When I had a job making 15k more a year, the car payment was not a problem. When I bought the car, I hadn't planned on going back to school (figures). So....I owe 24k on a 2006 Passat at 5.4% interest (I just refinanced it in June), payments of $440 a month. I think it's worth maybe 16k (ouch). What do you recommend I can do to lower the payments or get a cheaper car? I know they'll roll my negative equity over into another car (or something like that). It's a great car, but I don't need anything so fancy, and I don't want to be broke because of it Any advice? Thanks in advance!
  12. Sports do look awesome, not to mention the XBox 360. The next big purchase is a PS3 to fully take advantage of the 1080p I'd get another Vizio in a heartbeat, highly recommended.
  13. That makes sense, thank you.
