I'd call them. Several years ago just after I had upgraded to a new HSBC card, I went on vacation. When I returned I realized my payment was 2 days late. I immediately made a payment but they had already charged a late fee and pulled a hard inq. After a bit of an argument they credited the late fee but refused to delete the hard inq.

Congrats! The $300 Orchard is also where I began several years ago. That $300 card is now a $5k card with cash back. It takes time, so hang in there.

My HO insurance through Geico is a Travelers' policy.

If the 7 year reporting window has expired, I'd expect the SOL on the debt has also expired but do be certain of the laws in your state. My experience with CM was that they would call every day, multiple times per day. I spoke with them once. After that conversation, in which they offered a settlement, I sent them the FOAD letter. They have not tried to contact me since. If the SOL on your debt has definitely expired, I would not pay them anything. They bought the old paper for nothing. It's simple speculation on their part. You owe them nothing. Send off a FOAD and relax. edit- Whatever you decide to do, Stay Off The Phone! Do not speak with them. All communication by mail only.

I claimed no harm to myself nor any intent to pursue litigation. Any party calling my phone number and letting a msg must reasonably assume I will listen to it. I am under no obligation, by whatever (questionably legal) warning, to not listen to a call or recording that was made to me. The CA's contact method seems very specious to me and I do question the legality of it.

The entire msg was computer generated voice with pauses both before and after the "John Doe."

The call was answered by my machine. ARM let a vm. Are you saying I'm complicit because I listened to vm let on my machine? Nope, I don't buy your reasoning. Even had I answered that call in real time and ignored the so called warning, in my opinion I am still not complicit. The only party who violated the third party's privacy interest is the CA.

I will if they become enough of an annoyance (which, being a CA, they probably will).

It'd seem to violate the third-party disclosure law to me. Depending on you to hang up if you are not "john doe" doesn't seem like a reasonable procedure to protect John Doe's rights. Who the heck takes orders to "hang up now" from people who called you? Also it isn't going to work if the call goes to voicemail or an answering machine. That's my take on it too. I had not heard of the ARM CA before this call, maybe it's their SOP. They are in NJ. Just for the heck of it, I'll file a complaint with the NJ AG. Checked the local phone directory, there is no listing for the person they are trying to contact. His name does come up locally in a google search though.

No, it is a land line. I use a Traysoft app on a dedicated old puter to log, screen, and/or zap calls. It's a pretty cool app.

I goggled the phone number and it is a CA called Accounts Receivable Management. This was a type of call I'd heard of but had never gotten myself. "This message is for John Doe. If you are not John Doe please hang up or disconnect now. By continuing to listen you are acknowledging that you are John Doe." BS. I acknowledge nothing. It is my phone. It is publically listed in my name and address. You called me. The msg then went on to say the call was about a debt owed by John Doe, gave a phone number and a reference number, and said to contact them ASAP. Is this even legal? It seems to violate privacy restrictions. I do not know the person, never heard of him, but now I know his name and that a collection co is attempting to contact him. I set my phone software to zap any other calls from ARM but if they ramp up the calls, which they will probably do, I'll need to confront them. A PITA but at least it's not me they are looking for.

Do you know the DOLA? Do you know your state's SOL regarding the debt? If the debt is past the legal reporting time frame CM can't legally report it, but monitor your reports. CM contacted me by phone a few months ago about a debt that was over 10 years old. They never mailed anything to me as is required. The debt was beyond both SOL and reporting status so I sent them a FOAD letter. I've not heard or received anything from them since. GL

Furnace is set to 68F during the day. Over night it is set to 55F. Last winter a major ice storm caused a 10 day power outage. Temps were in the teens at night. The fireplace has an insert, door & blower, so it was useless without power. I froze for 10 days, only getting warm by taking 2 showers a day (propane water heater). It was brutal. Glad your pellet stove is working again.

Alliant has been very good in my opinion. When I joined they offered, and I accepted, a $10k Visa CC. Shortly after joining I applied for a rec vehicle loan. It was approved instantly with no docs required. Only belong to one other CU, CCCU. The only products of their's I have is a Visa CC.
