  2. This. It gets confusing negotiating on multiple aspects of the deal. I prefer to negotiate on one aspect only: price. I would sell the car to Carmax, and use the proceeds for a downpayment on your new car.
  3. Happy Birthday!
  4. I think the OP is still around....but they've gone back to posting under their original member name.
  5. The only thing that matters is that you're comfortable with your decision, and learned from the mistakes made prior to 2008. Congrats on your Amex.
  6. IME, an account reporting as "Unknown" vs. "Paid" causes a slight decrease in score (~5 points). I disputed a charge on an account that I normally pay in full each month. The credit limit is approximately $15K, and the account has been open for nine years. The account normally reports as "Paid", but as of last month, it's reporting "Unknown" due to the dispute. I saw an immediate score drop (there were no changes to my report other than the account with the disputed charge). The charge is now out of dispute, and my statement will close this weekend. Once the bureau updates, I'll see if the account is reporting as "Paid", and how my score is affected. I'll update this thread with the results next week.
  7. well, just wanted to update that it didn't work. the BK itself showed up on all 3 reports last week. the letter from LN said it could take up to 30 days before the opt out was fully complete, so it's possible I didn't do it soon enough and that's why it wasn't suppressed. or it's possible it just plain didn't work. will have to go the old fashioned way of trying to get it removed down the road. Sorry to read that things didn't work out as you had planned. Hopefully, better days are ahead.
  8. Very nice! Congrats!
  9. Nissan V6s are great the biggest thing i see that they would like Nissan to change is get rid of the CVT and that is what DW wants next is the Murano. The redesigned Muranos are sweet. I test drove one last year and loved it. The acceleration was quick and very smooth, and the vehicle handled very nicely. I am used to a 2005 Altima, though, so that's probably why I was so impressed.

IMO, anyone who needs an 84 month term to make their payment manageable is buying more car than they can afford.
  11. What's keeping your score down? If it's high balances on revolving accounts, can you pay any of them off?
