Posting a question on behalf of someone else. Any input is appreciated:
My daughter recently obtained a student loan and used me as a cosigner without my knowledge. My ex-wife had my social security number and gave it to my daughter in order to obtain the loan. I only learned about this when ACS student loan provider started calling my house, because my daughter apparently isn't in school and isn't making payments on the loan.
The account has not yet been turned over to a collection agency. I've been asking ACS to send me a copy of the promisory note since early February, and they keep saying they'll do it, but they haven't yet. I presume someone forged my signature, but I don't know. My conversations with them up until now have been via phone. I know now that any future correspondence should be via CMRRR, but this is what has happened up until now. What is my best course of action at this point?
