I just checked mine (I haven't logged on to their site in a good while) it's showing I have 6 pre-approvals. I really have no desire to take take advantage of them in any case.

I have an old 30 day late car payment about ready to fall off and a civil judgment from '06 for $1,200 by an extremely psychotic ex-landlord (paid).

+1 If possible, always try to PIF anything under $100.

I'm a bit in shock right now. I haven't posted here in a long while so I'll give a brief background on myself for the people who might be frustrated with their credit repair journey: Not very long ago (4-5 years?) my scores were around 576. Not long before that I was sitting around the mid 400's. That's when I started aggressively working on bettering it (thank you CB). A couple of years ago when I was in the high 600's, I tried to apply for a PenFed card. I was denied the first three times for being an Egyptian. The fourth time I was approved for a card with a $500 card. The limit wasn't really an issue for me, I was just using it for gas, I was just happy to finally get it. Well, about an hour ago while I was paying bills, I realized I never asked for a limit increase on my card. Now that my FICO is at 756, I figured what the heck, it's been a lucky week for me might as well (I'll get to the lucky part real soon). So I started the process (I had totally forgotten what a pain it is). Fully expecting a decline due to a new inquiry I had gotten this week (hehe), I hit the submit button. There was no decline. There wasn't even a "a decision will be mailed to you in 7-10 days" type of thing. Nope. I got hit with an instant approved for an additional 5k. So in 5 minutes, I went from $500 to $5,500. Not only that, but I was also approved for a $25,000 auto loan at the 2.9 apr. Too bad I just bought a brand new Jeep Compass Latitude fully loaded for a 1.9 apr on Monday So I just declined that. So to the frustrated, stick with it. I, as many others on here, have been where you are at now. When all is said and done, you will come out of this a whole lot more credit savvy and wise.

I darn near had a stroke this morning! I pulled CreditSecure and saw I had 6 new inquiries. Since I hadn't noticed the dates yet, I assumed I was hit with ID fraud. After I saw the dates I was like dang it.... they came back. Not too worried about it. They are all at the very beginning of '08 so they will be falling off soon anyways.

Umm.. problem with saying "you people"? You do realize that was meant as you people=Citi, right?
-
I wouldn't request for CLI unless you have good usage and always PIF. As for requesting CLI, what other ways than by online and/or calling? I realize it sounded like a silly question, but some issuers have a couple of different ways of asking and one generally may be a better way than the other. That make sense? Anyways, I didn't see a luv button on my screen but there is a pre-approval for the platinum card which I'm not interested in.

November of 2009 I got the letter from Citi stating they were jacking my 9.4 apr to 29.99 for kicks and giggles Of course when I called "there was nothing they could do." So I stopped using it right then and planned to keep it around for utilization. But earlier today I was going over my other cards and was comparing their aprs which range from 7.2 to 17.9 and my eyes kept lingering over the 29.99. I said heck with it and called to close it. The Indian fellow closed it at my request, and to my extreme amusement he suggested that I could apply for a different card that has a 0% introductory apr. I laughed at him and said "Then what, you people will jack that one, too?" I declined his suggestion. I have no interest in any Citi product ever again. Even though I pif, for some reason that insanely high apr was a thorn in my side. It felt pretty good throwing it in the shredder.

Congrats on the Blue Cash Amex! Not to hijack the OP's thread with a question but it may be relavent to him as well. I also have an Amex Blue that will be turning 6 months in May. How long should I wait to request a limit increase? And how does one go about requesting one?

I will not call them. I just wonder why they put in the CLI button if they don't want to give you one? THEY LIKE TO SET TRAPS FOR PEOPLE AND SEE IF THEY STEP INTO THE TRAP I wish we had a tin foil hat smiley.... Anyways OP, a month or so ago I clicked the CLI button and got the message to call, which I did. The CSR asked a couple of questions (can't remember what they were but they weren't anything major) and I got my increase of 2k. I can't vouch for other people, but so far I'm not having any trouble with BOA. YOU MUST BE SPECIAL Yes. Yes I am. Thank you for noticing. I was afraid no one would appreciate the work I put into my specialness. -

If you are curiious, set up your account online on AMEX website and you will see your "member since date" that will show up on your credit reports. Member since 2009. I'm fine with that
