How hard would it be to get a private student loan?
caramello replied to Mandie Lee's topic in Student Loans
Anyone with a credit score over a 700 will have an easier time getting a private student loan. Anyone who has a cosigner with a credit score over 700 will get you a student loan. Its extremely hard to get a private loan. A few months ago I was accepted into school in London...a school that doesnt accept federal funds... but I was unable to attend because my credit score wasn't high enough to receive a loan through Sallie Mae. It was suggested that I contact with their underwriting department to argue my case (have made payments on time, employed full-time, proof of loan status etc) but still no loan. Both of my parents are divorced and economically disadvantaged, credit scores are s%#$....so no cosigning for me. I was crying and begging....to no avail. In all, I don't think its worth it to bother with these private student loan companies as most are going down hill, and may raise their interest rates. They are crooked and schools that only accept private loans are equally crooked in my opinion....If you only need a small amount of money, then ask to borrow from someone, maybe your parents? -
When I lost my job, after the company I was working for closed, I immediately applied for unemployment. I was also depressed but then I contacted every temp agency in town...I was determined not to fall down that slope of pity....I was placed at a law firm within a month. I am currently still at the law firm as a permanent employee and although its not my ideal job, the pay is good and my family's bills are taken care of... I met a barback the other day that works 12 hour shifts each day but has 2 houses and 2 cars, all paid off, he immigrated to this country, has little education, but was determined to make something of himself. Its one thing if you are physically unable, but if you have two arms and two legs, then you can definitely make it happen for yourself! During my time unemployed I also completed my first Master Cleanse....sold everything I didn't need, every piece of junk on Ebay....volunteered....just did things to clear my life. Try it.

Hi all!! Here's an interesting case.... I'm a regular lurker on this forum and have been working for about a month now to remove baddies from my report. My first dispute letter was directed at my Citi account which was in collections....however I made my final payment to Citi rather than the CA, and Citi accepted this payment, which I thought meant that it was gonna fall off the collections list on my credit report. Back to story...I sent the dispute letter to request validation (not nutcase letter). According to you guys: 1. they have 30 days to respond or its deleted and 2. if it can't be verified, it gets deleted. OK---I get a reply letter from them a week later saying this: "We have reviewed your recent letter concerning your claim that the bank has an obligation under federal law to validate the debt within 30 days of your letter. We respectfully disagree with your interpretation of the applicable laws and thus decline to respond further to your inquiry. We have reported to the CRA the above account is in dispute." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??? Can they decline to respond? Can someone help me out? Are they trying to see if I will punk out and not respond?? If so, how then should I proceed?

Good way to track your income and expenses
caramello replied to Gigi9585's topic in Money Management
i LIKE this a lot!! Bank of America has the same sort of service, its called My Portfolio, its free! It automatically categorizes your expenses, and you can also have it add your other accounts online. It allows you to budget and shows you when you go over for each month. ALSO, I can enter my username for my online savings accounts and it updates my balances each day. What I REALLY need is a service that sends an electric shock to my body everytime I reach for my debit card or my pocket -
Ok thanks, I'm still gonna give it a shot anyways.... I found a bit of information on 1st Financial....http://www.cardoffers.com/introComments/po...d.asp?idmin=873 it seems they have a horrible track record of ripping of cardholders.

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone here has ever had any success re-opening a closed credit account? I had a minor success after re-opening my Macy's account last month, but now I am working on 1st Financial, and they are saying "NO" for two reasons: one, because I have had a poor history with them (which is semi-true, but I have made large payments to them for the past 6 mo. on time!) and two, because I closed the account down myself. I dont remember ever doing that!! So my question is what would you do, AND also will re-opening this particular account help my score at all??? Thanks!!!
