  1. In the state of California, a surcharge is actually illegal on top of the merchant agreement violation unless it's charged by a government entity such as police dept fines etc.
  2. I just recently started getting my eyebrows waxed at Benefit's Brow Bar in the middle of my local Macys department store a the cosmetic counter. The y give you a little envelope to tip the waxer (which I normally do as I'm happy to reward good service) but you can't tip with your credit card. You pay for the service using their regular Macys cash register and get a normal receipt and all (no ID either) but when I asked how to add the tip they said they can't do it on the card. I'm sure this has something to do with the computer system since Macys isn't exactly set up to take tips, but it was awkward when I went because I don't carry cash often and didn't have anything to give the girl. I thought about writing to Macys and benefit about it, if they allowed em to add a tip on my card the $18 service would've netted her a $7 tip as I prefer to just round up to the next multiple of 5 that is over 3 dollars. Besides, my eyebrows are worth it.
  3. I've had my iPhone for 10 months with no problems at all. I always wonder why so many people are anti-iPhone. I have pretty crappy scores and I just added 2 new lines to my account with no deposit, all scores under 600 and I'm pretty sure they puled EQ as well. Good luck, I'm sure you'll love your iPhone.
  4. I'm in Chexsystems and have a much fresher dismissed Ch 13 on my report (which they pull) and was still given a checking account. Apply online, it's much more lenient than in-branch applications.
  5. No dice. Got someone in the US but she pulled credit and didn't even offer me a pay for increase. My score is better than when I got the card, no lates, kind of a young card though. Sees lots of action and paid down regularly. I both carry a balance and post at 0. Sigh.
  6. Hubby just called the magic number. Had card since May, $300 limit. Called, said he wants to use the card for purchasing more for work as he expenses it all, no questions asked, doubled it to $600. He hasn't received the Credit Steps increase yet, so hopefully that'll give him more in the next two cycles. Anyone have experience with the 300->600 plus credit steps? what did you get with Credit Steps with this limit scale?
  7. Your limited usage is probably why they won't give you an increase. Giving you more room to spend when you don't use it is no gain for them. Use it, pay it, let a balance post, give it some love, then call.
  8. Tresa, Easier said then done. Even when the debt is paid you remain on Chex for 5 years unless you can dispute it off and get lucky. Most banks won't even touch someone with a Chex record, even years after it's been paid and regardless of the amount.
  9. It's and FAA regulation against drinking alcohol not served by the flight attendant while on board, not a security/TSA issue. I did still manage though before the 3-1-1 stuff to bring several minis that we snuck into our OJ on a transatlantic flight in 2004. This was before I worked in the airline industry mind you, wouldn't risk it now. We aren't cashless but I wish we were, those cash envelopes we get off the planes are a pain to open, count, record and deposit.
  10. When you got the initial order with a chance to appeal the AWG, why didn't you appeal it and include tons of info in regards to your identity NOT being the one they're looking for? I got an AWG order for some student loans and among "student is disabled" and "student is dead" and "school is not accredited but I dind't know that and now I owe for loans for a worthless education" was "this isn't me, go find the right person" (not the exact wording of course). You had 25 days to appeal, did you?
  11. I got the same thing and an approval via email less than 2 days later back in May, hang in there!
  12. Even law enforcement can't require you to show ID, only ask for your name and date of birth (they can find out who you are anyway). The picture on the front of you BOA card should be valid enough ID for the ID checking salamanders, even though it's not required, and is no more or less subject to tampering than a fake ID. Signatures are merchants best friends yet they refuse to see the logic.
  13. When I first got back into the workforce I interviewed at IKEA, got the job pending a credit check and background check which I thought was bullpoop. They said if I didn't pass the credit check I couldn't work with money! I've worked retail off an on for 10 years, have no criminal record yet they equate bad youthful money handling and my husband's lay off and our subsequent foreclosure/BK with stealing. I chose not to let them run my report out of principle and told them so. My scores weren't that bad really, I may have even gotten it anyway, but I don't like that employers think that someone who doesn't pay their bills is also some druggie or thief. Hey, if I were a thief I would've had money and wouldn't have defaulted on anything! I ended up with a better job with an airline where they also did a credit check and background check but for different reasons (security clearance) and didn't care so much about the financial aspect since it's not really a cash handling job. I can clear an FBI and fingerprint check, it's those pesky CRAs!
  14. It was a dismissed skeleton BK CH 13 that had no liabilities listed, nothing. I filed to try to buy time before our house went into foreclosure. I just sent in a letter with the generic "never filed BK" and poof, it was gone! What's the chance of it resurfacing? Also got an old paid collection deleted by disputing some of the info it contained, whole thing went poof. On DH's report I disputed lates on an old paid car loan and it was updated to ZERO LATES (it had tons of 30 days) and is now showing in good standing. Thanks CB!
  15. I've also hear of this being pulled as well. They call and tell you they have a package for you, want you to verify the address with some story about not being able to find the address/wring zip etc. Once you verify that you are the correct person and give your address, no package is actually delivered. Instead papers are served.
