I've read several threads regarding this topic, and this seems to be the closest to addressing the question I want to ask. I have a 6 year old collection account that appeared on my report a few months ago. I've never been contacted about it by the CA, and I do not believe I owe these people money. It is the only negative on my report. I did the 1-2 punch in early December. Letter to CA was mailed on 12/6, and letter to TU and EX was mailed on 12/11 (EQ was not reporting). Today I got a new report from TU with the following updates - it says that the account was verified in 12/2006, but it also states that "acct info disputed by consumer". From what I've read in other threads, the dispute statement is added by the CA once they receive a dispute letter (assuming what I read was correct). I checked my report via 3-in-1, and I see this has fallen off EX altogether. I have not checked my reports for the last week because I was out of town. So, I don't know what day this fell off EX other than knowing that it happened between 1/4 and 1/12. Before this account appeared, my scores were in the mid-700s. EX and TU dropped to the low 600s with this account's appearance. Now they are both back to the mid-700s. I am confused about how this can show as both verified and in dispute. Does the fact that the CA took the time to tell TU that it was disputed by me mean that they are preparing to reply to my validation request? It's been over a month since they received my letter, and I haven't heard from them. It seems even more odd that EX took this off altogether - that would indicate that they told EX to remove it, right? I have not received any info from EX since mailing my dispute to them. I came across one post here where someone stated that an account has shown as disputed for close to a year. I realize that a disputed account isn't affecting my score, but I don't even like seeing it on my report. Is there nothing I can do to force their hand?

I have an unknown debt letter typed up and ready to go. Does this letter count as step 1 in the 1-2 punch? Should I be sending out CRA disputes when I get the green card back? Experian lists this as a "Collection Department / Agency / Attorney", and TransUnion lists this as a "Collection Account". What would be the significance if it was listed as an installment account? Also, would you mind telling me the signifigance of 5 days? I did a search on "5 days", but didn't come up with anything difinitive. If knew a little more about what you are referring to, I can do a search to get the details. Thanks!

I did a search, but mostly came up with posts that said that Citi does't allow you to convert PP to Home Rebate in the first place. I had no problem doing that at all. My problem is that now that the conversion is done, I can't get them to reallocate credit from my Dividend to my Home Rebate. I've requested in 3 times so far. The customer service rep. never indicates that there is an issue, but since the reallocation has yet to happen, I assume it's getting rejected during the approval process. Is it impossible to reallocate credit between these two cards? If so, am I screwed in that I probably won't be able to switch the Home Rebate card to something that can interact with the Dividend (since apparently my switching to it was a fluke in the first place)? I want to take advantage of a no fee 0% BT offer (hence my choosing the Home Rebate card - already have Dividend and Diamond). Do you have a suggestion of what I should attempt to convert the Home Rebate card to that I actually may have a chance of success with?

Hello, I read through the Newbie FAQ since it's been a while since I was familiar with this subject. I see a couple of things that might apply, but I wanted to get some feedback as well. I just got an alert stating that potentially negative info has been posted to my account. I looked at my report and sure enough I have a collections account for $162 from an apartment I lived in 04/1999 - 12/2000. I seem to vaguely recall arguing with them over carpet repair costs. We went back and forth for a while, and then I never heard from them again. Anyway, that was 6 years ago. So, fast forward to today, and apparently they decided they weren't going to drop it after all. I haven't received a single notice about this recently - it just showed up on my credit after 6 years. The date opened, date of status, and last reported date are all 2006 dates. I see in the FAQ that there is a link that talks about finding out the date for commencement of the delinquency. I just pulled up my Experian report and it says "Status Details: This account is scheduled to continue on record until Sep 2007." - so that means they are correctly reporting the date of commencement of delinquency, right? (that it will fall off in a year) So, I'm confused about what I should do. The 1-2 punch? According to the post that explains this, it talks about demainding validation within 30 days of first communication - so was that 30 days from the date in 2000? Or since what is reporting on the CR is from a new CA (and not the OC), that means that I've technically never been contacted? Are they even required to contact me? If I am supposed to do the 1-2 punch, do I use the "letter for unknown debt" as step 1? There's so much info here that it's very easy to get confused. Thanks for your help!

I have been trying to reach them for the past 4 hours. This is ridiculous. I'm trying to cancel. Regardless of what option I choose, I go into automation hell. The longest stint on hold was 1 hour straight (and a few 45 minute stretches). Is this the norm for them?

It has always been my experience that I cannot convert and combine in the same phone call. I've always had to wait for the new card to arrive before I could combine. If the person you talk to says they can't do it, simply thank them for their time, hang up, and then call right back. My husband and I have reallocated credit lines a dozen times with Citi, and it's never been a problem.

I just called, and a very friendly rep upgraded me in less than 5 minutes. All he did was verify that I had the Amex Starwoods Plat card. He was so friendly I was tempted to ask him to upgrade my status to Plat.

I called Amex this morning and they gave me a SPG # that had already been setup in my name. I was able to use that # to log into SPG.com just a few minutes ago. Upgrading to a Gold SPG membership is news to me though. I just call and say I should be upgraded because I have an Amex?

Thank you very much!

I set up my account @ Amex.com, so I can see all the CC info. However, when I click on the link that says something like "check your SPG points", I'm just taken to a generic Starwoods page. I would assume that something has already been set up for me (how else would they be able to deposit sign up bonus). How do I find out my membership # so I can log into my SPG account? I read through the ppwk that came with the card, but I don't see any info on this. I also searched CB for the term "starwood", but didn't find anything relevant.
