impact to credit score after closing a cc account
TheMatrix replied to TheMatrix's topic in Credit Forum
Thank you!.. Appreciate your quick feedback! -
Hello members, I have a 13 year old best buy credit card ($3000 limit) that has a annual fee. I tried my best to waive the annual fees but I was told it is not possible and neither possible to convert it to a different card product that has no annual fees. My only option is close the account. My worry is what impact it would have given the age of the account. My oldest card is 18 years. Total limit across all cards is ~160K. FICO score is 805. Credit usage is 7%. Please suggest! Appreciate your feedback and any suggestions! Thank you!

Hello All, My scores were in the 770 range. I recently refinanced and the new mortgage is not reporting yet. However my old mortgage started reporting zero balance and closed account in my report. The new score is 752. Is this normal? Will the scores go back up after the new mortgage starts reporting again..? Thanks!

Hello Experts, I am in the process of a doing a refinance. I just paid of my credit cards to improve my utilization ratio for the refinance. However, the new balances would be reported in the next billing cycles..Is it possible to request the credit card companies to report the new balance immediately, so the mortgage company can get the latest scores after the new balance is shown..

How does removing dispute comments from closed acct affect scores..?

I am in the process of removing some "In Dispute" comments from my credit reports to apply for mortgage..Prior to the start of process my scores were in the range of 760-770. I had 3 baddies; 2 closed & paid collection accounts from Hunter Warfield(due to fall of in Sep 13). One 30 day late from a year ago on hsbc card. I had disputed all three in the past. Nothing happened..As you also may see from my other posts w.r.t HW, I have not been successful in a deletion. I requested all CRA's to remove the "Dispute" remarks from the reports as I no longer disputed them to be eligible for mortgage. All the dispute comments are gone my scores dropped to 690-710 ranges. After all this, fortunately a GW with HSBC worked in removing the 30 day late. This increased the score to 700-720 range. However the dipute comments were reinserted erroneosuly..I contacted CRA's and was removed again, however after removing the dispute comments again from the HSBC closed and never late acct, the scores fell by another 5-10 points.. 1) I am at a loss to understand what has the comments got to do with a self closed, all paid and never late credit acct.. 2) As far as HW goes, I do not think, I will bother them, but I am just thinking if I try GW with them, and assuming they do not agree, will it trigger reinsertion of the dispute comments..but if they agree, I hope to see some jump in the scores..What do you guys suggest..should I try GW or just leave it.. Thanks!

You should be fine - the collections was paid and the late will be a year old 20% down and those scores should get you in no problem The special programs are usually low or no down - you may find something with a better than market rate but if not dont stress it too bad you will be getting in when rates are at an all time low - B It in fact has not been easy. I recently applied for a pre approval with Wells Fargo. The broker told me they cannot approve me automatically because of the "In Dispute" verbiage on my collection accounts..I followed instructions on another forum to contact CRA's to request the "In Dispute" comments from my reports. EQ and EX deleted the comments, however I am shocked to see my scores dropped by 80 points..I also have opened another thread in Credit forum..can somebody please help..what my options are. Contacting Hunter Warfield is just a meaningless experience.. Any ideas..

I recently read on this board about another member having success with removing the "in dispute verbiage" by sending a written statement to the CRAs something to the effect of "I no longer dispute this item and would like it to be taken out of a dispute status". I have this same situation on two of my own reports and just sent off the written request so I can't tell you first hand if it worked for me but it may be worth a try. I just tried that by following instructions to remove "In Dispute" verbiage from a post on myfico forums.,I could get rid of the dispute notifications from EX and EQ, but to my horror..my scores dropped by 80 points..I am just at loss of ideas. Please tread carefully with this approach. Maybe somebody already experienced in this situation chimes in...please..

Hello Experts, I am into a little tightspot with my application for home loan pre-approval. I understant this is not the right forum for the topic, but however has to do with a credit dispute. I recently applied for a preapproval for a home loan. The only baddies: 1) 30 day late from more than one year ago (Orchard Bank). 2) A collection from Hunter Warfield from Jan 2007 that has been paid already. Both negatives were disputed with the CRA's. The mortgage officer informed me that the system is not approving me because of the "In Dispute" flag on the collection account. He rather suggests that I submit a full manual application and provide documentation for the collection account and the underwriter will be able to decide. Has anybody been in my situation. I have realized there is no point dealing with HW, they have been insane. The last dispute was in May 2011, to see if they will simply ignore my dispute since it is already paid. ,but they verified it. Can I request the CRA's to remove the "In Dispute" flag on the account. Please suggest.. Thanks in advance!

Hello I will be applying for a mortgage soon(June 2012), with 20% downpayment. I am a first time homebuyer. I have a collection from 2007 that is paid and closed..with Hunter Warfield (could never get rid of it). The only other blemish is a 30 day late with HSBC credit card from June 2011. Myfico score 710-720 range. However the Equifax score on the equifax website is 780. Not sure why such a big difference!. What should I expect. Just worried about this collection. Also if there are any special programs from IL that I should be aware of and use it. Thanks in advance!

Great!. That has given me some relief. Thanks for your reply!.
