  1. Unfortunately, they are not going to try to get another job. I was figuring the same time frame you mentioned - about six months to get back on their feet. He is filing for ss disability.
  2. Would you let a relative or friend move in if they lost their job? If so, how long would you let them stay if they are not paying rent? A few months ago I let a relative move in with their dog because they were losing their job and had health problems. I am a bit older and far from wealthy but through hard work have a nice house with a mortgage and enough bills to keep me from taking vacations. The relative doesn't pay rent but does pay one small bill every month, a little over $100. which is about 1/15th of cost of the house. I get up very early...ridiculously early, to go to a job that really sucks but pays my bills. Resentment just started setting in as I think the relative is getting very comfortable. They are getting the max unemployment for our state and do not have a car payment, only car insurance. That is their only bill. All of the unemployment, short of $100 or so is theirs to spend. How long is appropriate to help them out? I was trying to do the right thing but wonder if I made a mistake?
  3. Kingston, I just closed my refinance today with old unpaid CO's. In my situation, they never presented any hurdle. All I was required to do was write a short statement about the accounts and what happened. I just checked the credit report pulled by my broker and the largest account is reporting an amount a little under $7,000. Most likely, your CA's are reporting the date they purchased the account.
  4. LOL. No, they settled out of court.
  5. I agree w/you as this letter makes me a bit nervous - it just doesn't sit right. Nitraven, you are correct about the FCRA...my typo! Re: data furnisher - I believe we are just trying to speed things up as I am in the middle of a refinance w/a short window.
  6. OC DOFD 02/05 CA reports only date opened 03/07 and reporting as collection account There was no judgement, I have copies of the dismissal w/o prej.
  7. Last year I was sued by a JDB and hired an atty. to represent me. An agreement was reached and signed by both parties which stated the alleged debt could not be sold nor any attempt made to collect upon it as well as it was not to be on my credit reports. This was about 4 months ago. The entry sat on my CR's, not updated until this month. All of a sudden, the amount reported jumped by about $3,000. and the reports were updated for 06/09. I contacted my attorney's office and they sent me a letter to mail to the CRA's but I have concerns about the letter as it seems to me that I am actually validating the entry in my own letter. Let me know what you think.... Dear CRA, I dispute owing any money to JDB. JDB sued me in xx county, xx in case no. 123456. I hired an attorney to defend me. The account is too old to sue on. JDB dismissed their case and paid my attorney fees for helping me. As part of the settlement, JDB agreed that I dispute owing them any money and promised never to take any action whatsoever to try to collect my Original Creditor account. JDB has agreed never to sue me again to collect this account or attempt to collect it. The account is no longer enforceable against me. Please investigate these disputes in accordance with the FDCPA and provide me with copies of whatever information you obtain in the course of your investigation with each of the above creditors, as well as whatever documentation they provide to you regarding my disputes. Additionally, please forward a complete compy of JDB's Voluntary Dismissal Without Prejudice along with a copy of this letter. Please provide a copy of any documents that JDB provides to you or that you obtain during your reinvestigation. When you have completed your investigation, please provide me with a copy of my corrected credit reports. Thank you. Sincerely, xxxxx Enclosures: As described So...I am NOT comfortable sending this letter out. Since it is a holiday weekend, I cannot reach anyone right now at the atty's office but I did leave a message. The 2nd to the last paragraph doesn't seem like it is supposed to be in the letter. I know he dictated the letter to his assistant but I think that was meant for me, not for the letter. At the end, they say enclosures but I was not directed to send anything but the letter in their cover letter.'

  9. Costco has high quality and usually good customer service (or will try to make good if you are unhappy). Personally, I wouldn't trust Wal-Mart for my eye exams - to me it would be like going to K-Mart for glasses. My eyes are pretty bad and I have progressives so I prefer high quality glasses and service. Sam's is probably about the same as Costco, whatever is convenient.
  10. My understanding is that there is an upfront mtg. insurance premium added onto an FHA mtg. as well as a monthly mtg. insurance pmt. amount, correct? Is the second premium, the monthly amount, for the life of the loan or at one point many years down the road can I qualify to stop having to pay it? Posted on the board in case someone else is wondering the same thing. Thanks! Second question, for anyone who can answer. There are old unpaid CO's (all out of SOL) 4 + yrs. There are two that hover around $3,500 and total of all is around $9,000. Has anyone had success refinancing with this size unpaid CO's without pmt. being required for the refi?
  11. Melanie, I would be wary of anyone who solicited me to refi, jmho.
  12. If anyone needs an attorney in the Orlando area, feel free to PM me.
  13. Might be an income issue.
  14. They CLD'd me about 6 mos. ago. The card is 7 y/o, limit was $4,000 dropped to $500. My balance never exceeded $500. and I PIF unless utilizing 0% interest. Oddly enough, this card/limit survived through my credit woes. Scores were barely 500 four years ago and no CLD. HD and Lord & Taylor were the only cards that remained open. Cutting my limit by 800% (did I do the math right?) sends me more often to Lowe's now.
  15. I stumbled upon a statement at CSI: "CSI is a commercial collection agency and DOES NOT report to consumer credit bureaus. We only report to Debt Watcher. It seemed like Debt Watcher is just a service that a limited (about 7) collection agencies report to.
