HSBC is my top choice, only thing that needs to happen with it is that I put the check in with the paperwork and mail it. Not sure about a second bank yet.. US Bank if they approve I guess, if not then public savings or something that route I imagine (Cap. One declined me for secured already; sad). Any recommendations?

and the plot thickens lol... i was two seconds away from mailing the check for the 1 card now im debating still, that seems like a good point

I'm starting my credit repair process... Should I just get 1 card with a $1500 limit or two cards with $750 each or something else?

I took a year off of law school to teach English in China. Before I left I applied for hardship deferments. I jumped on a plane and enjoyed my year off. Found out when I returned the deferments were denied because my school had failed to unenroll me until a few weeks later (generic: deferment denied student still enrolled letters). As far as getting things back up to date I'm fine. I've been back in school for a year now and everything is going smoothly... set the graduate and take the bar. However, the lates from the student loans are going to prevent me from being admitted to practice in most states because my credit score has been murdered (600ish; had 10 student loans all load up with lates, no defaults, caught them in time for that). How can I fix this?

I haven't been around here in a while, guess you could say I fixed my problems and then failed to give back. But, I've been using Google Voice (GV) for a short while now and I'm hooked, and then I quickly realized, this would have been heavenly sent back in my collection days; when I would get what felt 20 calls an hour. Also, it would be nice to create a black list of phone numbers all of us should automatically add to our GV accounts. I have a few GV invites left to give out - PM me if you're interested - first come first serve. I also have some Google Wave invites if you're interested. Here are some of the GV features that I use and why: I use my current cell phone number, but Google can give you a new number for free if you want (if I started over I would take this offer). I copied the features list from Wikipedia, but added some notes in bold: A single Google forwarding number to all of the user's phones Free calls and SMS in the US and Canada Call screening. Announcement of callers based on their number or by an automated identification request for blocked numbers I require all Unknown Callers to orally verify and repeat their name or business name to even be eligible to reach my voice mail - this is great at keeping those stupid auto dialers from harassing you Listening in on someone's recording of a voice message before taking a callobvious reasons Blocking calls from specified numbers imported my old pen and paper do not answer list Send, receive, and store SMS online Answering incoming calls on any configured phone Call routing. Selection of phones that should ring based on calling number very cool - i keep all non-residential numbers from ringing my mobile or bedroom home line Voicemail transcripts. Reading of voicemail messages online great feature - saves time not having to listen through long spews (you know the crap they say over voice mail Listening to voicemail online or from a phone Notification of voicemail messages via email or SMS Personalized greetings based on calling number MY FAVORITE: I leave a customized F-bomb rant for the slimeballs Forward or downloading of voicemails for when you lawyer up if you ever need to Conference calling Call recording and online archiving I record everything now - I think Im officially over the edge Switching of phones during a call Viewing the web inbox from a mobile device/phone Customize preferences for contacts by group Ability to change your number for a feehavent needed this yet

http://www.wisn.com/news/14697601/detail.html Computer Glitch Leads To Brawl At Wauwatosa Kmart 2 People Arrested POSTED: 5:02 pm CST November 26, 2007 WAUWATOSA, Wis. -- A melee at a Kmart store in Wauwatosa Saturday morning was started by a computer glitch. The store was running a promotion in which it would give away $10 to anyone applying for its credit card, but the computer glitch led to everyone's application being granted -- bestowing up to $4,000 in instant credit to anyone who applied even if they shouldn't have qualified. Once word started to spread about the so-called "free money" Saturday, witnesses said things got pretty nuts inside the Wauwatosa store. "They were having a big fight. Two ladies was jumping a lady over credit cards," witness Sylvester Wilson said. Nearly a dozen Wauwatosa squad cars responded to the call just before 11 a.m. Saturday for what was called a large fight in progress. "It was a nice brawl. It came from inside to outside. If you go up there, you'll see hair, earrings, all pulled out on the ground," Wilson said. What started as a fight between two women in the crowded store evolved when several men intervened. A store employee got punched in the nose and crashed through a glass display case. He was treated for a broken nose and various cuts. Two suspects, a 22-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, were arrested, accused of battery. Meantime, Kmart is still trying to clear up the credit card mess. Two employees confirmed for police that anyone who applied was being given instant credit -- from $850 up to $4,000. They also told police that people started calling other people to the store for so-called free money. The store ran out of credit applications. One witness told police someone went to another Kmart, got some applications there and was selling them in the Wauwatosa Kmart parking lot for $20 apiece. Kmart would not comment on how many people got the credit cards who shouldn't have or how much merchandise they were able to buy with them. The store did put a stop to it, though. There are signs on the door saying it is not processing credit card applications at this time. Citibank, which issues the Kmart cards, did not return WISN 12 News' calls asking if this happened nationwide. WISN 12 News reporter Nick Bohr spoke with a Sears corporate relations person Monday who told Bohr he could not really talk about the specific incident but said the credit problem was isolated. It was not a national problem, the spokesman said. Sears owns Kmart. The suspects remain in custody awaiting charges, which could be issued Tuesday.

Debt collectors CANNOT pull your report. (2007)

Cajun, read the whole case please... while you might consider it mere dicta, it's clearly the holding... I should add... there is no debate regarding this as it applies to medical bills; solid gold... -
Never coming, Vernon Jordan (board member) told the press that AmEx declined for reasons not yet public. Rumor has it they're starting a new charity program based on a brand card.

I’m not sure if this has been discussed or not, but if you have a debt collector coming after you, and it pulls your report. File a claim with the court immediately; put the offense on your court and get them off your backs and/or paid. Simply put: “The appellate court concluded that the woman did not voluntarily seek credit, no one granted her credit and there was no "credit transaction," so they weren't allowed to obtain her credit report.†(Referring a debt collector) http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/ca9/newopinion...pdf?openelement U.S. Court of Appeals can only be reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court or the appellate court en banc (won’t happen either). Even if outside of your jurisdiction, cite as persuasive authority (legal theory). Unless the collector is the OC...

This is a simple matter, res judicata is on your side. The fact pattern of the bill is unimportant, that issue has been resolved by the courts. You really need to apply for something like a mort. and get declined due to that collection account, and trust me, the house will be paid for by the dentists. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It will be a quick summary judgment in your favor. Present this case to any lawyer in town and trust me, they'll give you similiar advice.
