When I was here a few years ago, there was an organization that helped people get back on their feet. Its donations came from people who had been in similar situations and had managed to get back on their feet and also from others who had cash to spare. I start a new job soon, but I need a little assistance to get started until I get my first check. Does anyone remember the name of the organization?

Me, too! I had no idea. I came here tonight and saw the RIP. I am crying, too - for both Hurricanesfan and a friend of mine who is the same age as Hurricanesfan - also with cancer.

What happened to the car financing forum and the student loans forum?
-
I was wondering about that, i.e. if they could take it out of next symester's proceeds. They gave me 7K because I had to purchase a computer, buy the courses/credits, and buy books for two classes and I have been worried sick that they might make me repay every penny TOMORROW if i decide to drop the class. The withdraw deadline is April 2. I've even been too afraid to call the Financial Aid office!

One of the things I was afraid of is that it would affect my GPA. I didn't realize there was an F and a Z . . . When you pay back the portion of the loan, do you have to pay it back in FULL immediately - or do you pay it back so much a month over so many months?

Can anyone help, please? I have a student loan for this symester. The financial aid regulations state you must have 6 credits per symester (i.e. two classes). One class is going fine but I was two weeks late starting the second one because it is online and I could not find my way around the online system. The teacher is less than encouraging as well because I was late starting. The online system gives me nightmares! Perhaps I am just not cut out for online classes. Anyway, I know there is an impact on my student loan if I drop this class (which would leave me with 3 credits this symester) but what is it? Exactly what would happen to my loan if I drop the class? I am so worried about the student loan thing. I hope I wouldn't have to pay it ALL back - because I couldn't. Most of it's gone towards computer equipment (I'm taking technology classes), books, and school fees.

Were you able to get your foreclosure overturned?

Depends on which state the property is located. Which process tha they use for foreclosure; judgicial (lawsuit) or trustee sale (no lawsuit). Also on the process for completing the transaction when the redemption period ends; in other words, is this still viewed as part of the collection process, and if it is, then yes the Bk would stop the completion of foreclosure. However, if your state considers that all collection actions are completed at the time of the foreclosure sale and the clock simply runs to expire yoour rights as owner, then maybe not. The relevance of filing the Bk is that the redemption rights are likely transferred to the trustee and T could redeem the property for the Bk estate. (would only happen if a lot of equity existed). So again, it may or may not extend anything here. You need to speak to a Bk Atty in your state to know for sure. GL The state is Michigan. Thankfully, I already have an appointment with a bankruptcy attorney next week. I would have filed for BK sooner - for other reasons - but had been holding off because of the loan mod process. I think they use both judicial and non-judicial f/c's here. I was upside down on the mortgage and was going through a loan mod to get the interest rate reduced. -
What is the point of having a redemption period after a foreclosure sale when the bank sells the home to a third party if the sale to the third party cannot be undone? That is, if the bank forecloses and sells to a third party and this action cannot be reversed, then the redemption period is useless! Confused!

If I file BK during the redemption period, would it have any impact on the bank letting me keep the home at this point - even though they have sold it to a third party? -
No advice?

This is a terrific thread. I wish more would respond, though, because the responses let us see the possible outcomes of our own situation. I was in for a loan mod with Chase since early 2009. They proposed a loan mod and NACA and I asked them to tweak the escrow as it was incorrect. Nothing more forthcoming from Chase. Soon after, they foreclosed with NO notice. I found out by accident by home had been sold. There was absolutely no reason for them to sell! Now, I have an attorney trying to redeem the home or reach some sort of settlement with the bank. This is my first time working with this attorney so I don't know if he is any good or not and time is moving on. I'm getting nervous. I was trying for a loan mod on the 140k I owed and they sold it for 25K! I don't have 25K to buy it back so how do I get to keep my home. If I can't keep it, they should at least put me in another one and remove the foreclosure from my credit report. What are typical resolutions to situations like mine?I have no idea!
