  1. the problem is twofold.. 1 - they never tell me their company name, nor will they tell me who the creditor is -- I did look at all three of my reports and nothing is on that list matching or even closely matching this amount. 2 - I'd love to be able to post this company's phone number, that is not possible since they send a fake phone number to caller-id. I did originally contact both my phone company and police. The phone company claims they cannot trace the numbers. The police cannot do anything since the telco is unable to trace. I find the claimed inability to trace the calls hard to swallow, since it IS possible for any phone company to trace any call they want. Maybe if I claim it's a terrorist calling and then they can use FISA to track them down.
  2. Hello all My dilemna is this, I keep receiving phone calls from some collection agency. The caller either does not tell me who they are or mumbles the company name in a way making it unintelligible. All the person says is that I owe their client $387.45. They will not tell me who this company is, they just give me their reference number. I explain to the caller that before I can do anything, I must know who this company is that I owe money to. Tha's the point the caller goes into the usual "you're a deadbeat, blah blab blah.." Finally either I hang up on him, or tell him that I am disputing the debt, then he goes "ok then you are refusing to pay" and hangs up on me/ About 10 minutes pass and the phone rings.. guess who.. the same jerk. This goes on 6-10 times a day. Also this company spoofs their telephone number (likely in response to my blocking anonymous calls), I see phone #'s like (000) 000-0000, (202) 555-1212, (212) 555-1212, and (123) 456-7890. What can I do to make this stop? Am I being obstinate in wanting to know who the company is that I owe this money to? I don't think it's an unreasonable request. I called my phone company and they say since they are spoofing the phone number, they have no way to trace it. (which btw is a crock of bull - I worked for a different phone company, it is very easy to trace the call).
  3. yes I will check into this... could be the cousin.. but this Providian.. that rings a bell now.. long time ago I had opened a line of credit with a small local bank in Northeast PA.. had it paid off but reopened it to start up a consulting business with a partner, which ended up a disaster (came back from a trip to find an empty office and bank accounts).. yeah it was a bad move using a personal loan to as start up cash for a business.. long story short while I was pursuing legal action against the former partner, Providian bought out the bank and the loan which by then was in default.. so they took me to court and got a judgement against me (for a lesser amount) - and I sought and won a civil judgement against my former business partner for the same amount, and then some... I may be looking at either a case of mistaken identity.. OR, correct me if I'm wrong, if this is the Providian account that Chase took over, then Chase would have no claim to this debt since Providian already had a judgement entered against me (in 2001). Then they (Chase) are reporting the same debit twice? And this I believe is a violation of the FCRA as I understand it.. Unless Chase is acting as the collection agency but I have yet to hear word one from them or anyone regarding the Providian case in years...
  4. Hi.. newbie here.. sorta.. just registered.. been a lurker here for a few months.. helped my mom clean up her score now it's time to work on mine :-) here's the deal.. on all three of my reports, there is an entry from CHASE NA, they allege that I have an account with them which was opened 10/96 and was charged off 07/00.. I only found out about this in November 05 when I pulled my credit reports. Now I know all the cards I have presently (none) and records of all the cards and loans I had.. this account/card number was NOT one of them.. Never had anything to do with Chase before in my life.. I suspect it's fraud or a mistake since I have a cousin with the same first and last name as I do (different middle initial). first thing I did was dispute it with the three CRA's... Equifax investigated and deleted it.. Experian and Transunion investigated both came back as verified, which they (Chase) are claiming a balance as of 12/05 of more than $25,000. I'm in PA.. the SOL here I believe is 4 years so that has passed, there are no judgements on my record for this, in fact I never heard a peep from a single CA regarding this account, no phone calls, no letters, no nothing. That alone makes me suspicious since the amount involved you'd think the CA's would have been set up camp outside my house. Think I should pursue this further.. I know it's going to drop off in 15 months and I'm pretty much untouchable now, but now it's become a matter of principle.. bottom line it IS NOT mine and has been hurting my credit for all these years and I want it gone.
