We got full accounts, and not the 2nd chance one. I guess it depends on who opens it. She didn't even mention anything, but I will say that I was upfront and told her that we were on Chexsystems so don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.

Hi to all, just wanted to say that my husband and I both are in Chex and got accounts with them, also got a business account. I had said before that we were going to move from PNC and that is where we went. I know they are in WV, and bordering parts of KY and OH. Very nice people and I will keep you posted. And everything was free too.

What happened to all the posts that were on here last night?

How do these big banks get away with the order in which they post items to your account??? No matter what order you paid for anything, they always take the largest item first so that they can suck more OD fees out of you! I know, no one needs to tell me that you shouldn't overdraw your account, but it happens even if you try hard not to. An example, this past weekend was a long one. It was Valentines day Saturday, my daughters birthday Sunday, and my husbands birthday on Monday. I went shopping a few times, realized I needed to add a little more money and transferred it from my savings. All was well except for a couple outstanding $1.00 gas holds. Tuesday comes and an automatic payment for my cell phones came out. I wasn't expecting it to come out for another day. So what my bank does is take that large cell phone payment out FIRST, which takes the majority of the money and then there were TEN (10) OD charges assessed from all my little purchases this past weekend. I would rather have had my cell phone payment returned instead of this! If you call them they just say that is the way it is, PERIOD. This has happened before and my account was only short a couple dollars, but once they assess a fee, it overdraws it more and then it is like a snowball!! I read about this last year but never gave it much thought until it happened to me. It seems like it should be illegal or against some kind of regulation. I am moving our accounts to a local credit union because it is hard enough keeping up now without paying some bank executives salary with my money. I made sure they do not have the same policies as PNC first, and the lady I talked to said she used to work for one of the banks and she knew EXACTLY what I was talking about. I don't know how some of those people sleep at night! mad.gif OH! I almost forgot, how quickly do banks report you to Chexsystems? My account is overdrawn and if I pay the whole thing now I won't be able to survive this week because I will have no money! I figured I would pay them a little at a time. So how long will I be safe from the Chex monster?

... how many times do you check with your bank to make sure your payroll check has cleared in a month? From the way I read it, he deposited his check first, then paid CITI, BUT the check bounced because the bank put a hold on said deposit, without telling him. So, when he wrote the check to CITI he thought he had the money, because they did not tell him they put a hold on the check. I do check whether all deposits have cleared before I pay out anything from my checking. Always. On a given day, I'm probably going to be online at least for a few minutes, and that's all it takes to log into my bank account and see what has cleared -- both the various disbursements, and any deposits. So, yes, I do know where my account actually stands and what I have available. I could do exactly the same thing by calling my bank's VRS instead. I doubt that Paula's son goes more than a day or two without making at least one phone call to someone or other or going online to check his emails or look up something. He knows how to use a phone and a computer. He very easily could have known, and in future probably will make sure that he does know, his available balance. That is, if she lets him take responsibility for his own business, to be an adult about this; doesn't try to keep him a baby boy. If she can't do that, if she can't step aside -- then IMO she doesn't respect him nor trust him. However, until Paula says otherwise, I'll assume that she does respect him and she realizes that this should be handed back to her son to deal with it. She'll only provide advice if he specifically asks for it, and in any case that would be advice only, not making his phone calls or writing his letters for him. BUT why would you? You don’t “trust and respect†your employer? Why would “you†check to make sure a PAYROLL check went through IF the BANK did not give you cause to believe other wise? I guess I can see your point about logging in to your account, but I know I only do it every few days to check DHs debits when he is out of the country. If I follow your rule of thought then I should check everyday, to make sure my DHs Payroll DD didn't get taken back, although IF it did, my bank would call me ASAP. AND as far children go, I would do whatever I could to TEACH my child HOW to handle a situation like this. If that meant that they had to listen to me making a call for them (BTW she did say he called first and got nowhere. Then SHE called to help him out.), if it meant that they had to sit with me while we wrote out a letter, then that is what I would do. Most of us here on this board had NO direction in our early lives with money or credit. Taking the time as a parent to say, "OK let's learn how to do this and I will show/help you how this time, so next time you know" is more that most of us here ever got. AND it has NOTHING to do with trust or respect. It has A LOT to do with positive direction and teaching them how to handle these situations in the RIGHT way, so they don't end up in situations like the ones we see here. As I said the first time it would be done. I'd help in any way I could as a part of teaching them what to do. Next time would be where you say "just advice" because they should know what to do from the first time, because I took the time to help and teach them. Optimally from that teaching, there would be no next time. Thank you very much for seeing the situation as it REALLy was. I did not have an attitude as some people on here would like to think just because of the post I made about his. That was onlky to vent my frustration to CB'ers only. I appreciate that you have NOT picked apart my post and understand that I AM helping not doing it for him as another poster suggested. And no he didnt check his available balance, his paycheck never had a hold on it before, and no it had never bounced. This is M&T Bank, and they just are pretty much too big fr their britches now. All they would have had to do was let him know about the hold according to the law and NONe of this would never have happened! Again, I appreciate your posts!!

Yes, they did, so they had to refund all fees associated with it. Problem is look what it has now resulte in. They won't do much about that. Hopefully they will write a letter that works! Its just too bad he didn't know what Citicard was going to do to him. Wow, don't they allow any mistakes at all?

We are hoping that a letter from the bank telling them what really happened will fix the problem...ughhh Thanks for the reply that didn't make me feel like I was being reprimanded!!

Wow, my experience reading these boards has been one of people writing about their problems, and tons of others writing to tell them how to deal with it, and commiserating a bit. First of all, we DO NOT really say WTF. That was to convey our disbelief only, ok? No one at any time came across that way on the phone even a little, although I did say he has only had this happen once, why are you doing this, that is when she said they will CLOSE accounts for ONE nsf check. Now I think that is a little stringent, don't you?? I mean look at all the woes of other people on this board, I'm sure there have been some accidental nsf's, not to mention the deliberate ones, by those same people. idk, dirty?? I only posted to get some advice.

OK, so I know you are "supposed" to read all the fine print, but who really does? Thanks for the info nyway, and I will tell him to try that, and yes this is the only time it has happened. Thanks again

My son has their student card with a $1200 CL. He has had it since last July/August. Has made all payments on time, except was a little late on one. The payment he made from May was returned by his bank because there was a hold put on his paycheck which he was NOT informed of when he made the deposit. Long story short, he got the fees returned by his bank, I called and made an alternative payment from my account to correct it. Next thing is he gets his statement and it has Balance: $ 121.00 Available: $0!!!!!! so we are thinkng wtf??? He calls and they say that it is a credit hold due to an nsf check. Then they tell him it is on till the 20th. he says wtf?? ( not really, we are thinking this the whole time though), Then they say it should be OK to use now, so he tries and of course, NOT AUTHORIZED!! Then I am thinking this is WRONG!!! ONE mistake, that wasn't even his mistake!?!! So I get on the phone and have to go through the whole permission to speak with me speil...I say wtf??? (not really so harsh but you get the picture) They say there is nothing to do about it at this point!!! And that they will CLOSE accounts because of this!!!! What is with that anyway??? Oh I almost forgot, he had a really nice rate, dont remember exactly what it was, but on his statement it was somethin like 32% now!!!!!!How can they get away with this crap????? I also forgot, were on vacation when I was talking to them so I told them what happened and they say well get a letter from your bank yada yada yada........OMG, what the hell?? Ok, so hopefully the bank will do it at this point now, but wow, what a bunch of touble to go through!!!!! Has anyone else ever had this happen?? Is there anything he should do to get his great FIRST tradeline back with no repercussions?? He has a Chase card with a whopping $300 CL, an Aspire with a $1000 CL, and a $100 American Eagle card. I need to checxk his scores again since this has happened, they were getting prtty good. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

It show's up on caller ID as Natl, which I "assume" stands for National. They are asking about an OLD company that my husband & I used to own. We haven't had it in around 10 years, and we filed BK 7. I said I hadn't heard of it and he asked if this was.....(my address), and I at first said no, then he said hold on a minute and then came back and asked if this was a residence, and I said yes. Thought that was the end, then he asked again if this was ...(my address) and I said yes, but I no nothing of this compnay, and he AGAIN said hold on a minute and was gone for a few minutes, then I hung up. he was obviously checking some database which probabsly has my name and address on it linked to my phone number!!!! Anyway, who is this???????

Ok, long story short. before my Dad went into the nursing home, he & my Mom ran up around $15,000 in cc debt by using them for medications they couldn't afford. They are on SS disabilty and have only a small ($350 or so) pension. My Dad is a diabetic and cannot walk, among about 50 other problems too long to list here. Instead of going through the BK route that I don't think my Mom can handle, what other options do they have? The CA call constantly and my Mom is about to go crazy, she can't turn off the ringer since my Dad is not in very good shape. I was thinking some kind of letter saying where he is and that she cannot pay, and blood out a turnip...yada yada yada......... Has anyone else had experience with this kind of thing and if so what did you do? I welcome all the help I can get!!! Thanks in advance! Paula
