  1. eonaxes, i just noticed the same thing on my experian report. it now looks like i have twice the amount of student loan debt. i'm planning on calling the original loan holder tomorrow and requesting that they contact the bureaus and report the account as closed. i am a little hesitant as i'm unsure as to whether losing a good trade line (3+ years, no lates) is better than having the trade line with the extra debt. Any advice out there?
  2. Recently, I disputed my last baddie (stating it was obsolete) on my TU report. Its a CA account well past the SOL in my state for suit and coming up on the SOL for reporting purposes. It is supposed to fall off next month according to older TU reports which list the fall off date as 6/2010 but I decided to dispute early as I read that many here have had success with that. Unfortunately, the dispute came back verified and updated with new info and the estimated date of removal is no longer there. I don't have any records from the OC as to when the last payment was made but I am fairly certain the account should be falling off now. I did not DV when they made initial contact 3 years ago and they do not respond to any of my requests for info. What should I do?
  3. Isn't this a case of re-aging if, instead of allowing the TL fall-off, the CA updates with different information?
  4. Why hasn't your lawyer moved to dismiss with prejudice? Or maybe I missed something in the thread.

    Ha!

Niteraven-Yes, I sent the DV's via CMRR. Got nothing back but settlement offer letters. Dragon-I picked up on that language too. Sounds like they definitely plan on selling the debt after I "settle."

    Ha!

Niteraven, Unfortunately, there was no timely DV. Still sent a few out but there was no response from them (other than their boilerplate settlement letters-with this last one being the saddest version)

    Ha!

George, Do you think I should write them back with a PFD request, attaching their settlement offer to the back? I can wait out the reporting SOL but since is my last baddie , I'd rather PFD and get it over with.

    Ha!

For the past 5 months, I've been trying to get a certain evil and notorious JDB account off my credit reports. It's clearly outside the 6 year SOL, but they're relentless with the reporting. The negative TL update's every month and the balance owed increases. I hadn't heard from them in awhile and then, last week, out of the blue I get this desperate settlement letter from them. "Dear Bostonyork, Your account with "Dirtball, LLC" is past due and immediate payment is demanded. However, we are willing to grant you a one-time, 90% discount on the amount you owe (XXX.XX). But this offer is only good for 45 days-so act quickly. Upon receipt of the reduced-amount, you will be relieved of your obligation to us regarding your debt." I've been trying to clean up my reports for over four years and this has got to be the most pathetic settlement letter I have ever received.
  9. I just want to say thank you to the members of CB in advance for all of your help during my credit repair journey. I am down to my last collection account and I think it may kill me. It is outside the SOL for legal action but within the reporting SOL. Unfortunately, I failed to DV the agency with 30 days of them contacting me. Nevertheless, I have written three DV's to them, over the course of 7 months, and nothing. Actually the only response from them is to update the tradeline monthly. Am I totally out of luck until the reporting period is up? I know there is the option of PFD but I do not want to shell out any money to any company that cannot prove that I owe the debt. What options do I have left?
  10. Has anyone tried disputing recent, closed, positive tradelines in an effort to increase the age of your file? I have a few tradelines from the late 90s, many from 2003-2005 and about 3 from last year. I'm wondering if I would get a boost in score from the deletions of the tradelines from last year.
  11. I'm glad to see a state's Attorney General taking steps to curtail some of the fraud that goes on with these collection agencies. And with the shortened reporting SOL for paid collections, it seems like NY is the place to be for consumers. And you're right Eastridge-it seems as if the AG is trying to make it easier for those who wish to vacate a default judgment do so. But they still have to go through the process to get the judgment vacated.
  12. You should also write a letter to Bloomindales disputing the late notation. It worked for me!
  13. i bought a scanner and scanned in every document received from a cra, ca, oc.
