Follow Up Validation Letter

Yes, per the recommendation of the mortgage broker and against my better judgment I tried a credit repair company. They did more damage so now I am cleaning up behind them. So I am assuming that since they did not receive a response to their letter they thought this would be an easy win.

Yes, Capital One sent letters informing me that they sold the accounts and who bought them.
-
Yes, it was charged off in 2017 and sold last year.

I have 2 accounts with Capital One that were charged off and sold to a collection agency. I received a letter from an attorney's office saying the collection agency assigned both accounts to them. So who do I send the validation letter to; the collection agency, the attorney or both?

Oh wow! I am the original poster of the thread. I would love to hear other opinions on it. Just more of an update. I have been going through paperwork and reconciling it with my credit report. The charged off accounts are currently with collection agencies, they just are not reporting... Yet. I am in the process of putting a fraud alert on my account as my information was taken when the Equifax data breech happened and it is apparently on the black market for sale... Isn't that quite lovely. Then I am going to ask them to remove my previous name and old addresses. Before I address the collection agencies directly.

So how should one handle a charge off, especially after the debt has been sold to a collection agency?

Thank you. I can tell you are well versed in this. We have gone through two lenders and no one has done a what if simulator. However, I suspect I can do one myself on the credit monitoring sites.

Yes, I understand this. But due to my maternity leaves and my employer screwing up my disability payments both times we fell behind on paying my creditors and we are just now getting back on track.

3 years. They were just charged off and sold but it have been 2 years since they went into delinquent status.

VA Loan Master, Thank you. I know some are in charge off status and I definitely know 2 have been sold to collections. I am having a hard time finding lender that can provide that type of guidance and hang with us, so I am feeling like we are just out there on our own.

Good Evening. I am trying to put together a game plan for cleaning up my credit to obtain a VA mortgage. My score dropped from 635 to 535 within a two year time span due to being out on maternity leave from my job twice within a year. My husband (veteran) has a score of 620 but my income is needed to qualify per the first lender we spoke with(I was going out on my second maternity leave in the midst of this) . The first lender sent me to a credit repair company (I didn't have the time to do this myself... Had my hands full π¨π½βππ¨π½βπππΎββοΈπ©πΎπ§πΎπΆπΎπΆπΎ) that did more harm than good, actually they got nothing removed and ultimately the CRAs said they were not going to do anymore investigations. We tried going through another company with just my husband and though his score is 620 they wanted him to work on raising his score a little more because of his income. Now that I have mentally bounced back from having our twins in June, I am ready to tackle this. I have 4-5 charge offs and a few 30 day lates on both car loans, no collection accounts. Where do I start? Is there a reputable lender/broker that can work with us, in walking us through this process (credit repair and loan) ? We have 4 children at home full time and 5-7 at home on a part time basis, we need a home big enough for our family, there is no time to play around we have to move and buying is much cheaper than renting at this point. Thanks in advance for any kind of guidance or resource that can be provided.
