Paid off cards-call creditor or dispute to update?

My car now is at death’s door..lol..I was going to wait until the summer, but I don’t want to waste money fixing the one I have. -
Hey all! I just paid off almost $6000 in various card card balances. The cards are all in good standing. I am trying to get a car loan, and I want as little debt as possible showing in my reports. I made the payments in early February. Should I call each card’s account services and ask for them to update, or should I just dispute the balances via the CRA’s?

I have a paid , closed tradeline for Verizon. It had gone delinquent, but I paid it off when I moved. It reflects as paid, but still negative. I sent a validation letter. They responded with a letter that states that their listed information is correct, but no actual proof. Can anyone direct me to how I can follow up?

I have an old judgement from Chase. My wages were being garnished until I changed jobs. The sheriff found me..lol..and recently started garnishing my wages again. Now, I am getting collection calls from a law firm, Cohen & Slamowitz, where they are threatening to garnish the same debt and are trying to het me to work our a payment plan. I am not sure how to proceed with this. Obviously, I am not giving them anything, since I am already repaying the debt through the wage garnishment. Can the law firm legally do this?

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I think I'll go tmgill's way, at least until I get things under control..

I know that either way, creditors can contact me. I'm thinking for the verification process, I don't want my new address on my credit reports yet.

I've been looking for an answer to this for awhile...maybe I'm not looking in the right place? My credit was good until 2008/2009 when the recession kicked my family's behind. We were carrying a lot of credit card debt and when both I lost my job and my husband's hours were cut, I just couldn't keep up. We defaulted on everything. Time has passed and I'd like to clear our names. We are moving, and I don't want to give the CRA's or collection agencies my new address if I don't have to. Is it advisable to use a post office box to begin the repair process?

Cavalry Letter telling me SOL is up, but I can still pay.

Thank you! I thought it was some ploy, although for the life of me, I couldn't figure out what that might be. Knowing the whole incorporation law thing is good news, indeed!! -
Cavalry Letter telling me SOL is up, but I can still pay.

It's a credit card (Visa or MC-not sure which). -
My husband received a letter from Cavalry for a BofA debt. The date of first delinquency was probably last 2008/early 2009, when we were completely devastated financially (recession casualties). The letter states that they are required by law to tell me the SOL has expired, but I can still choose to pay. The thing is, we are in NY, and I think the SOL is seven years. Anybody know or have experience with this?

So, I went up and after going to the DA, and two sheriff departments (my land is remote and not really in a town, so it took two tries to get the right sheriff's dept), I was able to file forgery charges against the alarm company. I sent letters to both the OC and the CA, which is what the cop told me I should do, just to cover myself. I have to wait until next week for a detective to be assigned to my case. Even the cop said he could see it was a forgery. I am going to look into not only criminal, but civil charges against both the OC and the CA. Unreal what some companies will try to pull for a buck.

Thanks, everyone! I am heading up to the DA tomorrow. It is definitely NOT our signatures, and I have other paperwork from Vector that shows our signatures from the day of installation.

I called the PA Attorney General and they have some forms for me to fill out and mail back. They also told me to go into the district attorney and file charges against both the OC and the CA, so I give I am taking the two hour drive up there tomorrow. Do you think I should call the OC and tell them, so that they have a chance to back down?
