I'll take one, tired of trying to find a banner.

I'm not a professional mechanic by any means, but I do all service and repairs on our vehicles. Depending on what exactly is wrong with it, I believe it would be worth it to just have the repairs done. About the only two cases I could picture it needing $2,000 worth of work would be if either the transmission or engine were bad. As far as the struts, unless your maxima has the electronic controlled suspension, new struts run around $110 a piece. As with any mechanic, check what you are paying for labor. This is usually where the bulk of your money is when having repairs done. Most mechanics around here charge anywhere from $60 to $90 an hour just to work on a car.

Not happy with where I'm at financially
moacsupreme replied to moacsupreme's topic in Money Management
First off, thanks for all the replies everybody. My wife just turned her paperwork in and got fingerprinted to be a substitute teacher. When everything comes in, she'll make $55 a day working 7:00am-1:45pm. I told her that this would be great, but since it's not permanent she needs to continue searching for a job. The two oldest kids are in school now, only leaving our 15 month old needing a sitter during the day. As far as the job goes, I've decided it's time to move on to better things. I'll only be working there until I find something else. The company has done a few more shady things that really made me realize that I'm better off leaving there. As far as the bills go, The electric bill for last month was $144 dollars. I about went through the roof when I saw that. The CC's are put up, and will not be used. I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff, I'll keep this thread updated with what's going on. Thanks again. -
Not happy with where I'm at financially

I'm making $10/hour now, just stuck at 30 hours a week. They have somebody from another store coming in one day a week, so that way they can have somebody in the store for 40 hours a week, but don't have to give up the full time benefits. I don't mind the sales part, even though my experience is mainly inside sales. I handle a few accounts that I go call on, but the general manager still gets paid commission off of it. It seems as though most employers want a college degree of some type, along with the experience. This is one of the main things that hurts me. -
Well, I'm just not really happy with where I'm at. I'm able to pay my bills, but not much else. Here's my monthly breakdown. Bills Rent $200/mo Electric + gas $120/mo Water $60/mo Cable/Phone $70/mo Total 450 Debt Line of Credit 25/mo Balance 440 Visa 40/mo Balance 1,450 Citi 125/mo Balance 5,695 Truck Payment 46/mo Balance 379 Lowe's 15/mo Balance 409 Home Depot 10/mo Balance 195 Sam's 15/mo Balance 570 Amex 36/mo Balance 1,746 Monthly Debt Payments 312 Total Debt $10,884 Total Bills 762 Doesn't look too bad so far, so let's get into a little bit more detail..... Monthly fuel $140 Avg $35/wk Driving back and forth to work So, add that to the total and we get $902/mo going out. Monthly income is around $1080.00 I've tried for the last six months to get my wife to get a job, and have had no luck. We have 3 kids, and her opinion is that day care will eat up everything that she works for. This poses a good argument, and both sides of our family agree with her. So I just gave up on having any help with the bills, and figure I'll be going it alone. I will add that I absolutely hate everything about my job. It's part time, working 30 hours a week doing industrial sales. My boss is so lazy that even though he sits 2 feet away from the fax machine, he waits until I'm walking through and hands me a paper and asks me to fax it for him. (Unfortunately this is true, I wish I were joking about it.) I keep pretty bummed about it. I would love to leave my job and get something full time with benefits, but the job market is pretty dire here. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

comeone, why do you guys keep on doing this to me? Never mind, 1999 vehicle too old for collateral purposes. I apologize on the scores, the reason I only bought the Equifax is that this is the only CRA that my credit union uses.

There are two collections on my report with the same CA, both are reporting with different account #'s. Can I send one DV letter for both account #'s, or do I need to do two separate letters, one for each account. This is outside of the initial 30 day period too.

I forgot to mention that about 3 weeks ago, they came to unhook somebody's cable in our apartment building and accidentally unhooked ours. This was on a friday, and we nobody came out to hook it back up until sunday. I still haven't seen the credit for those days either.

Well, long story short...our promotional period was over, monthly bill went from $107 to $140. My hours got cut at work, and I told my wife I really couldn't afford $140/mo for this. So she calls and tells them this, she puts us on a 114.99/mo plan. Says the current month will be $80, and the next month will start the regular rate. I never believe they'll do what they say, so we keep checking back. For a couple of days, the reps say the current amount was $80. Then all of a sudden it goes back to $140. We call back, and then they say there was no record of the current month being adjusted. So, we go through it again. She says there will be a credit of $27, and that everything was fixed. Check online, sure enough $27 payment pending on our account. I log on today to check, $27 credit is gone, and balance is still the same. This is just getting old.

We did it back in high school. Mainly used stuff like old vegetables, coffee grounds, leaves, etc. Never really stunk, and generated quite a bit of heat.

The manager told me that he wanted me to start making some sales calls with the outside sales person, and then eventually calling on some of our other accounts by myself. I do inside sales right now, so I'm learning quite a bit there. Just not making much money doing it.

Got the email today that my hours were being cut again to 18 hours/week. I started my job last September working 32 hours/week, then it got cut around christmas to 22 hours/week. I like my job, just wish that I could work more. When I was working the 22 hours/week, I was bringing home $386.02 every two weeks. I calculate my new bring home income to be ~$315.00 every two weeks. I work in a small store, with two other people, a General manager, and a sales person. My general manager is moving out of state in June/July, and we're thinking that the sales person will move in to the general manager position. Hopefully I will be moving into the sales person position, which pays ~$2000/mo base salary, plus commission. Also, where I work is about 1 mile away from where I live. I've worked on cutting my expenses down, and here is where I think I am at. We are paying a lot of small debts off with our tax refund. After paying off the small debts, we will still have about $9,500 in credit card/loan debt. Starting next month: My share of rent $90/mo Utilities $50/mo Card #1 $20/mo Card #2 $130/mo Card #3 $40/mo Truck $46/mo $600.00 balance left Total $376/mo After bills that leaves me about $244.00 for fuel/food/etc. We still have cable, which I will be having to ditch due to my hours being cut again, it's currently $130.00/mo for cable/internet/phone. I will be trying to just keep internet, so I can still watch movies and what not. I live in a small town, and there really isn't much going on job wise. A lot of manufacturers for the automotive industry, and they have all been laying off workers. My wife doesn't work right now, she stays home and takes care of the baby. It's all been getting to me a little, and wish I was in a better situation. I keep waiting for the day that I will be down to 10 hours/week or laid off all together. I still make enough to pay the bills, but not much else. Any advice you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Been away for a while, need advice on handling this CA
moacsupreme replied to moacsupreme's topic in Credit Forum
Thanks for the replies. I'm just not real sure on the wording of the DV letter. I usually do the "I am in receipt of your letter dated x/xx/xx" opening, but since the initial communication was dated 4/15/08, I wasn't sure if it would be a problem it being so old. That's one thing that has me stumped since all of my DV letters have been done within the 30 days.
