  1. the home is a hoarder house and will unlikely be able to even be sold for the 125K HELOC. . they will never return to the house. it should be signed over to the bank but the POA is dragging their feet. i cannot imagine the bank listing the home for more than the mortgage so there's no money for the nursing home nor visa bill. the CU did know the debtor was in a nursing home and had zero money in the bank yet served this i guess to try to get a piece of the house.
  2. 13K in visa . the person is in a nursing home and will never return home. the person was incorrectly served at a relatives house but that really doenst matter. theres a hearing in PA in september and of course that person wont appear. the relative is going to contact the CU and tell them never to send a constable etc to her house again and give them the nursing home address for the debtor. so after the hearing, will another constable try to serve a judgement? when will the house get a lien. the only concern the relative has is that no one else show up at her door and upset her and i said send the CU a letter with the debtors nursing home address and they shouldnt bother you again.
  3. good news is the CU said come in at 11 friday and they will let her take her name off the joint savings
  4. so then why refuse to take her name off the joint savings? i find that bizarre.
  5. state is PA. unsure when any of the accounts were opened . only that the CU admits the visa is hubby name only while other accounts are joint so to hold her liable for the solo visa seems nuts
  6. i told her to do so today but she was too frazzled to go back...i told her tomorrow do it right away. but if they refuse i dont know what she can really do. regardless of that, if they put a 15K collection on her credit she will be devastated. can they really hold her responsible for a card that they CU admits was hubby name only?
  7. ill try to keep this short. a couple maintains a joint savings and checking account even though they are now divorced 10 years. wife never adds any money. it's just so she has access to the money for another reason. also wife is POA for the husband. visa is only in the hubs name and the CU of course admits it's just in the hub's name. however he's in a nursing home and has no money so after 4 months of non payment the CU took a few payments out of the checking account. the money itself doesnt matter as medicaid would take it anyway. wife goes in to close the checking account to stop any auto debits and close the account since the account is now drained anyway. CU allows the checking account to be closed. they say they cannot allow wife to take her name off the savings account with 5 dollars in it since there's debt on the account. but theres no debt in the savings. the visa is in hubby name only and not hers. CU says they will look into it and get back to her. i feel it's a stall tactic and they are gonna take money from her individual account and told her get in and take all her money out immediately. so can she be held accountable for a visa that never was in her name? it seems bizarre she cannot take her name off the savings at a minimum. and she will be devastated if she's held responsible for the visa as she has no money either and it's a huge amount
  8. i got 'lucky' and as soon as i bought the tickets the price went up 33 percent. also i found some 100000 mile bonuses from cap 1 and chase so all is well.
  9. i need to book some airfare 'today' and wondering what cards give you a number immediately to charge with. i have 9K in expenses to use toward the bonuses today but worry the airfare will change if i apply for a card and wait 2 weeks for the card.
  10. is there any case a bank locks up a house? assume someone dies today and is paid up with the bills. but then 30 days from now the mortgage is not paid and the bank already got notice that the person died. will it even be locked up then? and during foreclosure does a bank really lock up a house even?
  11. i figured, it was a 90 year old making the crazy comments yet if you google, there are zero stories about this. zero! so i knew it didnt happen ever. i am curious about one thing, if an executor wants to just give the house back to the bank is it just letting them know what you want and they do it. value of the house wont cover the mortgage and there are no other assets to make up the balance of the mortgage. the house is a disaster inside, no central heat for a decade. etc etc.
  12. a friends elderly , likely dementia, relative, is saying if someone is single and lives alone that a bank padlocks the house the day after death and sells your assets and cars etc. i said thats insane, you can live in a foreclosed house for years after the procedure is started and certainly if the mortgage is paid on time they cannot enter the home.
  13. showing my age but when i started my job the guy training me said his first house was about 20 percent . obviously salaries werent that high in the 80s so i guess housing prices had to be dirt cheap comparatively. CDs paid double digits, i remember going to the bank with my grandmother. the good ole days.
  14. chart back to 71 is telling. im sure there are older charts around. i do hope im wrong. would love to convert the heloc variable debt into 3.25 debt! https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MORTGAGE30US
  15. i got lucky and refied my house at 3.25 with my fav CU. a friend got 2.75 at her local bank. we wont see those rates again in our lifetime probably lol but my heloc is over 8 now but still better than any credit card. and my house is worth an insane amount. and yes i use it like a piggy bank. no heirs. nothing to worry about except myself. gf has her own money thankfully. only regret is when covid first hit i didnt buy more stocks or mutual funds. one local casino was down to under 20 bucks and shot up to 125 in just over a year. not that i look forward to the next crash but im definitely buying something when it does. i dont need my 2nd BT until september so im not gonna apply for that amex now. maybe they wouldnt like that i just had a pull anyway. with a 2 month rest maybe ill get it.
