Payed OC, Can I still HIPPA?

The HIPAA letter program is designed to get ALL medical accounts off your reports, no matter if they were paid or not. The ONLY time the "full" HIPAA letter program can NOT be implemented is if you paid the reporting CA. Take a look at your cancelled check to the OC and see if they turned it over to the CA. If the OC deposited it in their OWN account, or if you paid by credit card or debit card and the payment shows it was made to the OC, then the FULL HIPAA letter program can be used. After reading through it, it would appear that you have to pay the O.C. at some point if you owe the debt. Would HIPAA still be applicable if I settle with the O.C. for less than the original amount? Anyone know if Hipaa is still applicable if the debt is settled with O.C. for less than the original amount? -

I am aware of the HIPPA process, I was wondering If I can still do the HIPPA process after paying the OC, I have not contacted the C.A. at all, I just payed the O.C. before I found out about HIPPA. I noticed on your instructions it states that you don't send payment to the O.C. until a certain step. So I didn't know if the HIPPA process would still work or not if the O.C. has already been paid but the C.A. is still reporting. Thanks! -

OIC, this forum is like myfico where no one comes on or answers questions anymore. Good luck. -
If I PIF/settle with the original creditor for a medical collection, before beginning the HIPPA process; Can I still perform the HIPPA process afterwards? (It is already reported by a collection agency(not the hospital which I payed) to all 3 bureau's but the amount they are reporting is more than 2x as high as the original bill, so thats why I payed to hospital.) On my fico credit reports, it shows the balance from the original creditor as well, and the new 'current amount owed' which like I said is more than twice as much about 2.5 times as much actually. Thanks for any info on this!

wouldn't he have to meet some min tradeline requirements, like the 3 tradelines he opened be aged at least 12months?

As long as you meed the tradeline min reqs, the inquiry won't matter at 6 months. They will ask about it, and possibly have you write a LoE if the UW wants it. It's just a part of your overall credit picture so just 1 inq from 6months ago isn't that bad at all.

Oh also, If I pay an old debt from 2010, is that going to screw me since I am trying to show re-established positive credit history, as it will show recent negative activity? Or are the Lo's and lenders going to be smarter than that and see this was an act of good faith to meet my obligations?

Should we pay our debts now? Or wait for it to be in the closing demands? Is that going to hurt my credit score if I pay my debts, my score is gonna be close enough already... Is that true that your total amount of debt is factored into your fico score? Also I saw this online. "UPDATE: In 2007, Fair Isaac agreed with debt collectors that a debtor should not be penalized for paying off old debt accounts. While it is true that renewed account activity could reset the date of last activity on a collection account, it does not change the date of last activity for the original debt. Furthermore, Fair Isaac claims that adjustments have been made in credit scoring that allow for a debtor to pay an old debt without any negative movement in their credit scores. This settles a decades old argument that paying off an old liability demonstrates financial responsibility. What we do not know is whether the actual change to risk scoring models was made in 2007, or if it is part of the FICO 08 scoring update. Either way, by late 2008 debtors will not be penalized for paying off an old debt account. With this in mind debtors can pay off older accounts without fear of a negative credit score reaction. This is true for lump sum payoffs. Making a series of payments on an old debt is still not advisable. Still though, debtors should focus on newer debts, since older accounts may drop off their credit report before they get a chance to repay them." Can anyone verify if this is accurate or not?
