We started a DMP in October of 2010. One of the cards included was a Wal-Mart account which now has a balance of about $650. Wal-Mart refused to align the payment due date with the date our DMP payment is taken out and this has made us late every month, although we repeatedly talked to Wal-Mart and they had assured us that this was ok since they had it noted that we were working with a DMP. Then we got a letter out of the blue last week from them saying we were behind and we hadn't heard from them for about a year since starting the DMP. I contacted the DMP (Money Management) to see why we would have gotten this and they then called Wal-Mart and found out the account had been charged off in November of 2011 for being behind in payments, which way back when Wal-Mart had said would be fine. We never received any kind of correspondence from Wal-Mart before or after the charge off. If we had known there was an impending charge off we would have done everything we could to prevent this from happening! What I would like to do would be to use our tax refund next month to pay off the $650 remaining balance and see if they would remove the charged off status. Does anyone have any experience doing this and is it very hard to get creditors to agree to this? It's been a hard year and we have been trying so hard to prevent things like this from happening, so this is very upsetting, especially when we've been dilligently keeping up with our DMP.
