  2. I just looked at my credit report online and Unifund did put "customer disputes debt" in the message line so does including this statement allow them to legally add this collection to my credit report after receiving my DV letter or should they have refrained from adding a derogatory mark on my credit report until validating the debt?
  3. I have just ordered my three credit reports and will receive them in the mail. Between now and then, would you recommend mailing the Unifund lawyer a letter requesting to remove the collection that they just put on my CR? They just put it on my report on the 19th of this month without responding to my DV letter. Thanks so much!
  4. Thanks for the response! I am in Colorado and it is a credit card. I am not sure when the SOL is as the report I am using only goes back 2 years but I do believe that if the SOL hasn't passed then it must be very near. The balances from the OC and Unifund are different- Both the high limit and account balance are different. Is this a big deal or is this just Unifund adding interest, etc. The high limit for the OC is the lowest amouint on there and the account balance for the OC is the high limit for Unifund and then there is a 300 added to make the account balance for Unifund. Should I go ahead and fire off the FTC letter tomorrow? One of my fears is that they will just serve me with papers if I am to pushy. Also, Unifund is who reported to the credit agency, not the lawyer who was hired by Unifund. Does this matter? Thanks!
  5. Hi all! I got a collection letter from a lawyer working with Unifund about a debt. This was my first contact with them so I immediately sent a letter (certified) back to them for validation. They received the letter on January 4th and on January 19th they added the collection to my credit report. I thought they were supposed to cease all collection activity until validation was presented. Isn't adding a new collection account to my credit report considered collection activity? If so, what should my next move be? Is there a certain letter that I can write to get them to remove the collection account from my credit report until validation has been proved? This is my first post so please feel free to ask any questions that I didn't answer/provide. Thanks so much!
