Walmart.com Rejects Two Valid Credit Cards. Rage Ensues.
HowsThatWorkin replied to cv91915's topic in Credit Forum
I wasn't going to respond, but can't help myself. I absolutely detest Walmart and have not set foot in one since 2007. For all of the reasons listed by everyone above. Getting the GE backed Walmart card for the free FICO was a long internal debate with myself. I only ordered online a a few times to keep the card active and cringed each time I did. I wanted to be online shopping anywhere else. The Walmart by me has been nothing but a crime magnet since it opened. Car jackings in broad daylight. More thefts than could ever be listed in our local roundup of the police blotter. The police reports are almost entirely made up of the horrors at Walmart. I realize crime it is not Walmart's fault but it just adds to my dislike of them. I support small businesses both online and locally. I will gladly pay more for better products and good service even though I am on a tight budget. It gives me nightmares to think about the future being filled with nothing but mass merchants offering crappy products along with horrible customer service. -
Walmart upgrade to Discover!.......in 65 days
HowsThatWorkin replied to spoon611's topic in Credit Forum
Congrats. I got this as well. As an FYI - the letter has a date you must call by if you do not want the upgrade. The option is still there to not take it but you have to specifically request it. I'm still trying to figure out if this continues to report as a store card. -
Upgraded! From Walmart to Walmart Discover !
HowsThatWorkin replied to Credit Mama's topic in Credit Forum
I just opened the mail today to a Discover upgrade also. My CL is only $1550 and I just hit the year mark for card opening. Weird. It doesn't really fit my timeline for a new account but I'll take it. Does anyone know how cobranded cards display on your CR? Does it specifically say Walmart Discover? -
I can also add that this score had no correlation to the auto insurance score used by my insurer. I went from having the second lowest score possible in 2010 (and correspondingly high rates) to having the second highest score possible when I asked him to rerun my credit last year. Saved me a lot on my insurance. My CK auto score went from poor to fair when two new accounts aged past the one year mark but it's never gotten higher than a grade of fair.

ShopDiscover vs. Ultimate Rewards Mall
HowsThatWorkin replied to hairmetal4ever's topic in Credit Forum
That's interesting. The UR mall will never give me points if I use a coupon or if I don't clear my cookies after clicking through to a websites's special sales through an email before going to the UR mall. I assumed ShopDiscover worked the same way but I just got the card so I'm going to try it. -
Thank you for the info. In the last two years my util has gone from 85%+ to 6% with only 1 remaining debt at 0% interest. I think I'll try in September.

Walmart Discover, in store or online?
HowsThatWorkin replied to cashnocredit's topic in Credit Forum
Seriously true. A woman at work is always going on and on about her discount coupons for a local department store through which she has a credit card. A while back she accidentally admitted to me that she was still making payments on her Christmas balance from 2011. That 20% off coupon on a new sweater is totally negated by 22% interest for a year and she gets upset when I tell her I PIF all my cards and would never use a coupon to get a discount on something I couldn't pay off before the interest kicked in. I'm not normally that blunt I couldn't stand listening to her convoluted financial decisions any more. -
So I've been a member of Alliant CU since July 2011 and have never bothered applying for their CC because I don't think my scores are good enough and don't want another low limit card. I have them on the radar as a possibility in September of this year and oddly enough for the first time since I joined there is an advertisement on my account page for their cards with the option to apply online. Does everyone have this on their account page? It doesn't say anything about a preapproval. My scores have gone up a decent amount in the last two years but I am not baddie free. My last app with Chase was dissapointing because the limit is low and now every CLI will be a HP. I don't want to repeat that with Alliant.

I've knocked the stuffing out of my discover it card!
HowsThatWorkin replied to mikewho's topic in Credit Forum
I never thought I could actually love a CC but I love my Discover. It's the only company that I don't dread calling. I did two separate balance transfers and both times the money was transferred electronically within two days. All they needed was the company name and my account number. I was feeling slightly embarrassed that I actually had balances to transfer (personal issue of never wanting to be in debt again) but both people who answered the phone were so pleasant to talk to that I hung up feeling good and not like a loser who can't PIF. Totally agree about their awesome website, too. -
Couples who post too much Facebook PDA...
HowsThatWorkin replied to Nostromo's topic in General Discussion
No. I only have a page to get coupon codes and sales notifications for all of the little shops I buy from online. I do not allow friends and everything is set to private. About once a year I browse around thinking I am missing something. I am not and you are not. I can't believe people post so much personal info online. -
My Day Just Keeps Getting Better - more app success !

Congratulations! It's amazing the options you have when your credit is good. -
Thank you everyone. I am really pleased with Discover. When I called to get my limit the man on the phone was very nice and helpful, it really did seem like he enjoyed his job. I kept waiting for the punchline because I was convinced he was incorrect. I do a lot of online shopping so I'm looking forward to this card and it will help greatly that letting a small balance report won't make my utilization report at 30% (hello Cap1). I'm not angry with Chase, just disappointed. I have to give them high marks for their customer service, they were also great on the phone. I still have an open collection on my reports so I can't be too upset with them because I've heard that collections are a big no no with them. They also pulled both TU and EX which was like rubbing salt in an open wound but I've learned that credit is a business decision and not personal. It does feel good to know that Discover believes I can handle that limit.

Congratulations! I've apped with Discover twice and they just laugh gently as they say, "No, thanks." I am sure you will be approved eventually. Believe me, this was my final planned app because I wasn't even sure I would be approved and at best was expecting a $1000 limit. My report is not clean or spectacular in any way. Maybe they felt sorry for me.

Feel yourself lucky! At least you are not blacklisted. I'm so blacklisted with Chase that they are not even want to approve me for a $100.00 CC with $99 AF. I couldn't get a Citi card if my life depended on it so I guess we are even
