Medical bills with low income

They can rebill his insurance with the discounted rate. They can use whatever comparable rate his insurance Co would have with an affiliated insurance Co Stateside. Thanks WhyChat. I guess my question is - is this something he needs to worry about? He is 73 and doesn't care about his score. But I'm worried that the provider can sue him. Is this something they can technically do? Doubtful, unless he has a lot of US assets and a SS # that can be tracked. What is his immigration status?? Permanent or temporary visa?? The real problem for both of you is to get him some valid US health insurance. If you have a health plan where you work and your father is going to be a dependent, you may be able to get him on your insurance. He is a permanent resident and has an SS#, but no US assets. I doubt that I can get my father on my health insurance, even if he is a dependent. I thought this only applies to spouse and children. Back to my original question - should I insist to pay his bill or better wait until his insurance responds? My concern is that it can take them super long time, and his account will be in collection by then. I heard that collectors can pursue someone to the grave. My dad will not survive if he needs to go to court over an old bill. -

Hello, My father recently immigrated to the US. He had to go to emergency room right after he arrived with heart condition. He had travel insurance from his home country, and he asked the hospital to bill them directly. The insurance overseas doesn't want to pay because they bills the provider sent to them are unreasonably high - over $38,000 for 17 hours. He is also getting bills that are much lower - about $700. Today he got a final notice after which his account will be sent to collection. He does not have credit history in the US yet - no credit card, etc. He has no income either. I offered to him to pay his bills, but he doesn't want to hear about it. He hopes that his insurance will pay - but they won't. What can the provider do, other then sending him to collection? Thanks!

the AT&T rep should be calling up southwest credit themselves recalling the account and telling the CA that the debt has been paid. Don't know why you have to do this. AT&T rep called me today and offered to help to resolve it with CA. He asked me to provide him my SSN so that CA can look me up. I told him I don't give him my SSN to share with CA. I said I will only communicate with CA in writing. Did I make a mistake? I already sent them the first letter per your suggestion.

Do I need to mention in my letter about the violation? Or just state the subject debt was paid in full before I received the letter? yes, about the second sentence. send the first letter, and; if they start reporting it as a paid collection, dispute it with the CRAs real simply - " I have never ,made any payments to this Collection Agency, the information is inaccurate - please delete this reporting. " if the information is not removed, send the CA this letter; http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=496348 Here is the letter I wrote: Dear Sir or Madam: On 07-27-2012 the subject debt was Paid to the original creditor and I have a confirmation receipt to that effect. The original creditor confirmed that the account in question was closed with zero balance on 07-27-2012. Your letter dated 07-20-2012 did not arrive until 07-28-2012 because I had moved to a new address on 07-09-2012 and all my mail received after 07-09-2012 was forwarded. Is this correct?

It is not a bank. It is AT&T. I closed an account with them and the rep on the phone said they could not process my payment until the next billing cycle. But the next bill never arrived. I called AT&T on my own and they took my payment. I didn't know they sold my account and they never said anything about it to me. Just took my money and sent me a confirmation email (which I printed and saved). The letter from the CA arrive the next day in the mail. I call ATT and they said the account was sold on the July 17th. The dunning letter is dated July 20th, but I didn't receive it until the 28th, because I moved on the 21st and all my mail was redirected to new address with delays . The payment to OC was made on the 27th. I requested a paper bill from AT&T via the phone when I made my payment. They sent me one stating that the bill was due on July 25th. How come they sold it on the 17th and dunning letter issued on July 20th? Can I dispute on the basis that I never saw the bill and it was not due yet when they started a collection process. What letters should I send and to whom? Ah, this falls under Common laws, and isn't listed in any statutes . Dear __________________., On xx-xx-xxxx. the subject debt was Paid to the original creditor and I have a confirmation reciept to that effect. Under Common Law, If a debt is paid to the Assignor prior to notice of the assignment to a third party the subject debt is discharged. Review this with your legal dept. and take the matter to your Assignor. Your letter dated xx-xx-xxx did not arrive until xx-xx-xxxxx because I had moved to a new address and the mail was forwarded. After I paid AT&T , they sent a Statement showing the payment which had already been paid was due on July 25th. If you attempt to report a discharged debt to the Credit reporting Agencies, I turn this matter over to an attorney for review and legal action. Please Cease all communications regarding this debt. Thanks a bunch. Quick clarification: "Under Common Law, If a debt is paid to the Assignor prior to notice of the assignment to a third party the subject debt is discharged. " The debt was paid on the 27th, but the notice was issued on the 20th. What event qualifies me for this statement? Do I have to produce an envelope with forwarded email sticker? I lost it during the move. The only envelope I have is the one from OC, the CA is just a letter dated the 20th. Will my statement suffice? teh fact was, you paid it before the notice was recieved. and you recieved another letter from AT&T in August showing the bill was due on July 25th. are you dealing with a CA or a JDB? you state the account was "Sold" are you sure you mean Sold? do you really mean turned over to a CA for collection? This is where I get really confused. The dunning letter says "assigned". When I called ATT after receiving the new bill and asked them what is going on they said the account was "write off" on July 17th. They also stated that the account was "closed with zero balance" on July 27th. They told me that I need to call CA and tell them the account is closed with zero balance. I don't want to talk to CA. The CA is Southwest credit. I don't know what JDB is. Sorry. The AT&T rep also told me that he will call me on Tue afternoon to check if I called Southwest and informed them that my account was closed with zero balance. Should I take this call? What should I tell AT&T when they call me?

I called ATT (the OC) and told them to take the account back from the collection, they said "nothing can be done since the account has been closed with zero balance".They told me to call the CA and notify them that the account has been closed with zero balance. I looked at the CA site and the only debt under my account is their collection fee. They are likely to start collection activity to get their fee. I don't mind paying them - but I want to protect my credit. They didn't hit my report yet - will they? What can I do to protect it? Will disputing be the right step to take - or should I just wait and see what happens? Help!
-
Can someone please post steps on how to remove the old addresses from history?
-
If I send a dispute letter to CA after 30 days passed from the dunning letter - can they still hit my credit history? If so, how to clean it up? The debt is paid long time ago.
-
I received a dunning letter and paid the bill on the same day to the creditor. After that I moved and forgot to respond within 30 days. I don't have an envelope - but the debt is not valid. What should I do. Should I still dispute and send them a prove that the debt was already paid before I received a letter? Can they report my debt? If they do - how do I clear that later?

Dear Credit Gurus, My elderly relative from another country visited the US. She had to go to emergency room while she was here and provided my home address as her contact information. She had travel insurance, but the hospital couldn't bill them directly because she was not "admitted" and spent less then 24 hours in the hospital. Everything before 24 hours is out-of-pocket. She lives on social security benefits in her country. She is now getting bills from the hospital sent to my home address. Initially the bills were enormous. Today they sent her "last notice" before sending her to collection. The bill is only $580. It seems to be reasonable. I want to pay and want to handle this correctly, so that the hospital closes her account and never contacts her again about this. What should I say to the OC when I call them? Should I call them or is it better to communicate in writing? If so, what should I say in my letter?
