  1. I was just approved online for Amex Blue Cash Card last night. My credit score is in the 670's. The reviews are the website are good. I think this is one of the easier Amex cards to qualify for.
  2. I have been an avid reader of the Credit Board for years, but haven't posted much. I haved lived the UK for 6 years, working on my credit in anticipation of returning to the USA. Today a debt collector called my workplace in the UK, saying they were from Florida (can't remember the name of the CA)..they gave me a phone number and I wrote it down. I told them I would phone them back. I tried calling the number hours later but it wouldn't connect. I called the Federal Trade Commission and the rep said (after consulting with her boss) that they didn't think FDCPA rules applied as I was located in the UK, as such there is nothing in the act about overseas debt collection from a US based CA. My questions are: Does anyone have any experience with this? Can a CA actually call an overseas workplace? Should I write a letter to the CA asking them to stop calling my workplace (it seems to me it shouldn't matter where in the world it is...FDCPA says simply "workplace") Any help would be appreciated. I haven't had this problem in the 6 years I have lived here, however I have applied for new US based credit and perhaps this is "waking the beast"
  3. Well..I have never posted before, but have been reading the boards for years, slowly working on my credit scores. I followed the advice of those of you who have had sucess with Navy Federal and opened an account with them 6 months ago. I live abroad and my income is foreign earned..wasn't sure if they could accpet this.. I decided to take the plunge and apply for a credit card a few days ago. It was not an immediate yes, was sent for a manual decision. Logged into today and saw a Visa in my profile..with an approval of 7K!! I called them to confirm that no further income verification was needed and she said no..my card will be sent abroad within 7 days..so excited.. Thanks so much all of your help through the years!!
  4. Hello everyone, I have a 3 year old perkins loan in default that was sent to a CA(NCO). I called the CA and they said they were unable to set up a payment plan and the balance had to be paid in full. I then call my University's student loan collections office and spoke to a manager. He said he could not pull the debt back from the CA, however he would call the CA on my behalf. I agreed a plan to start paying minimal amt. until I'm ready to begin full rehabiliation. The student collection office sent the following e-mail to confirm our disucssion: "Per our telephone conversation today, we talked about you making payments to the collection agency NCO in the amount of $50 per month for the next few months and when you’re ready you will contact us about doing a rehabilitation with your account. The $50 monthly payments will be applied directly to the balance on your account so the payoff amount will be less based on the payments you’ve made when you are ready to rehab the account. You can contact NCO at 800-448-9541 and they’ll be able to assist you in making the monthly payments. If you have any questions please contact me". Does anyone have experience with negotiating with the University AFTER the debt has been submitted to a CA? THe manager said he cannot "pull " the loan back from the CA is that true? The debt is now $5,000 , original loan amt is $3,500. In a few months I would hope to settle on a full payoff of the orignal loan amount. Any advice would be appreaciated
