  1. If you just want something on your credit report there's always Fingerhut. (Is it possible to get turned down by Fingerhut? ) ETA: Checked CP, and apparently it IS possible to get denied by FH. :-/
  2. I have twin daughters, and one is criticized liberally while the other is 'a little angel.' No rift, no obvious reason. They are fraternal - golden girl looks like me and her sister looks like my ex. I can't imagine the family matriarch being this shallow, but I'm afraid it's possible. It hurts the favored twin more than it does the other. It hurts me, too. And thus was the source for my well-intended but misplaced 'advice' in my first post.
  3. Yep, and even then it's subjective, depending on who is doing the final evaluation. As was mentioned, private landlords have much wider latitude, assuming the meet the criteria that exempts them from federal regulations.
  4. My stepdaughter had long, stick-straight hair that would NOT hold a curl. I'd promised her I could get her hair to curl for a school function, but it would not be pleasant. . I diluted some hair gel, like Dippety Do maybe (?), with a little warm water the afternoon before (so it would have time to dry) and then sectioned it off into rather small segments and combed each one with a comb dipped into the gel. I rolled her hair on sponge rollers, and here's the gruesome part: she had to sleep with them in her hair. The next morning a little hair spray helped hold the curls. Gruesome, but effective. That kid had curly hair for three days. Not sure if you want your daughter to have to sleep in curlers, but my SD was adamant that she didn't mind. Good luck!
  5. About three years ago a nice gentleman filled out his application for a two-bedroom unit, provided proof that his income exceeded $110K per year, got a glowing reference from his former landlord, yet my property manager would not approve the lease due to a three-year-old BK. I thought it was utter crap and still do. We missed out on a great resident. My PM stated that it was "just company policy." Yet I'd seen MANY applicants with CAs and COs get approved. Whatever.... (One of the many reasons I hated working in that industry.)
  6. Not sure if you can qualify for Medicaid, but it might be worth a try. You will be asked to list your assets, and you certainly have some. Low income might be enough to qualify you. Not sure. Good that you own your house outright, and you certainly don't want to lose it over upaid taxes! If it were me, I would sell the more expensive car immediately and get caught up on your taxes. Don't wait. You can always get another car. But your house... don't lose it. Good luck with your suit.
  7. I'm sorry I was misunderstood. I don't know Angel and was using "you" in the vernacular. The only thing I do know about her is she's doing a great job of being objective.
  8. It's hard to not feel resentment when you have been unfairly pushed aside. Frankly, I think you're doing a great job of being objective, witnessed by your being proud of your cousin's accomplishment. The easiest way to feel at peace and keep things in perspective is to make sure you're doing everything you can to meet your own personal goals and fulfill yourself. It's impossible to be bitter when you feel great about your life.
  9. Stryker, they're not invasive; they just hurt like hell. They clamp down on the girly bits hard enough to flatten them so the x-rays can better penetrate the tissue. Ouch!
  10. Don't wait six months! Demand that someone get to the bottom of it, even if it means biopsy. My OB/GYN kept saying "Well, let's watch it for another month..." Finally it was my mom who demanded I not leave there without at least a needle aspiration. Solid mass. hmm... Onward to hospital biopsy. Malignant, and growing like a beast... three positive lymph nodes. I don't want to scare you, sweetie. Really. But I do want you to refuse to wait six damn months to do something! Easy for him to say... The good news is, all this transpired close to 27 years ago. Had I waited half a year??? Who knows. The reason you had a mammogram was for the advantage of early detection. Doing nothing then for six months seems disingenuous at best. Your instincts are spot on! Good for you for listening to them.
  11. Nope, it means they got all the info they needed from the soft pull. I'd leave it alone for now unless you want to risk a hard pull and another denial. Try again later in the year.
  12. Could contacting the OC help, since they are CA's client? (I am almost certain to be in this position soon and would like to learn all I can.)
  13. Have you tried Why Chat's HIPAA dispute on those medicals? I would do that before submitting any apps.
  14. OP, here is a link to issues for which you can and cannot be denied a rental agreement: http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/post-bankruptcy-discrimination-is-it-legal.html
  15. Of course your application for an apartment can be denied due to BK. It happens all the time and it's legal. Tenant rights vary widely from state to state. OP, sorry your and your roommate's income wasn't "verified." Sounds like someone got lazy in your roommate's case, and in your case, check stubs should have sufficed. Requesting bank statements as proof of income is very common for the retired, self employed and recipients of a trust fund. As far back as 1978, when I started my career in residential management, paychecks have always been widely accepted as a means of qualifying. Is it too late for your roommate to have someone from his workplace to verify his income? I would hate that my rental contract was showing up on my reports. That said, it isn't that different from a mortgage. Other rental agreements can wind up on your reports, right down to library fines. If entities are allowed to trash your credit, they should be required to report GOOD behavior. Yeah, like that's going to happen.
