thus with these scores i begin my road to recovery. It isnt gonna be easy but with all you guys help and mentoring i hope it will be a succesful!

Yes i am a NOOB, yes i read the noob area. MAN am i glad i found this site!! i will try and keep this thread updated with my progress and what i did to fix things so that it can help others with some of the same problems.

A lil about me- Am in the Hawaii Army Nationl Guard (9 years active sevice) activated and in the big Sandbox in IRAQ now, my goal is to fix my credit and buy a house when i return stateside! Thank god for the internet and a REAL USPS here! lol

I have read and re-read the posts here, but i cant soak up everything these last 3 days of reading, at least between missions its hard. So forgive me if i miss the obvious. The search feature will be my friend.

To the skinny-

have pulled all 3 credit reports seperatly as the vets here suggest as well as FICO's.

...........................EXP.......TU........EQ

Addresses listed: 15........3.......3

addresses wrong: 13!.......1.......1

my take: OMG exp what the hell is 777 lucky st anytown, CA?(is that an actual address?!lol) i havent even been there! i did see a thread about experian sux, i hope that doesnt go beyond the addresses lol. This will be my first area of attack, correcting personel data, the 1 address on the other 2 is a simple typo that any CRA rep will see is obviously wrong, I HOPE lol.

While this is being resolved my simultanius mission will be to hit 3 CA being reported-

NCO FIN (CA)

Verizon (OC)

amt $144

Paid (paid late to verizon due to military deployment, but paid) called to confirm with verizon balance owed $0. Hung up, will send Nutcase letterto these NCO FIN clowns!

VERICHECK (CA)

7-11 (OC)

amt $20

1 del 12/98

LOL ok ok i honestly dont remeber bouncing any checks to a 7-11 lol but it says paid and $0 balance. Will send a nutcase to them too.

VERICHECK (CA)

PIZZA HUT (OC) dont laugh!

amt $7 really dont laugh

1 del 09/98

ok its embarrasing to post, was around the same time as the 7-11 and i for sure dont remeber this one, who could forget a $7 bounced check. Although i was younger and dumber then..... paid $0 balance

I realize that those 2 are about to fall off, but i want them off as soon as possible! That was the embarrasing part, but i want to be honest to the folks on here!I dunno which is worse, having those on the credit report or they actually belonging to me (hope not)!

Next Issues will be with the CRA.

I have 3 Charge offs,(verizon wireless $1254, Navy Exchange $4240, AAFES $3269,but all 3 are paid(total over $8600), but 2 show on the reports as write off/bad debt, 1 shows as 120 days late assigned to CA.They were recently paid off and they havent caught up to the CR yet. These were all mine and i am totally at fault for being late,i am not trying to cheat anyone out of any money i legitly owe them (divorce = financial issues) but i got back on my feet and paid them (the OC's, not the CA they assigned).

Later issues:

several 30 day+ lates

Inquiries (lots, most i dont even know, some while i was over here in IRAQ, no credit places here!!

Ok now for a cpl of questions:

1) So far am i proceeding in the right order? (easy stuff first- address, name mispelling)

2)How should i proceed on the Charge offs? I havent been contacted by any CA, they (OC) just accepted my payments, called them charge offs all the while. Should i try and validate with the OC's first?

Side note- AAFES just sent a new card as soon as the old was paid welcoming me back with a 3k limit lol.

Thanks in advance for your advise and help, i will keep this thred updated as tom my progress!

:good: yes i am aware of the spelling mistakes, sorry! Its late! There was sand in my eye, an insurgent ate my spell-checker!

Yes.

Since you have paid these off, and one of them is interested in further business with you, I would try to begin with the goodwill letter process. Dispute the CA's for paid accounts as "not mine" and see if they fall off. If not, then try to get the CA's to validate and do the 1-2 punch.

If AEFES sent you a new card, you should ask them if they would kindly delete the baddies from your report, or merge the accounts with your old one that's paid off, to bring it current, positive, and well aged. When people have their money, you might be surprised how nice they can be. You might jsut land on 777 lucky street with the right goodwill letter.

Hey Lupoman...i'm a newbie too, and no need to be embarassed, i've got a $50 bounced check to a grocery store (that i paid off, but is still being reported) no my report...so you're not alone.

i just wanted to remind you to OPT OUT before you do anything else...i just did it a couple days ago, and it takes about five minutes.

Posted

thanks Savantrice and bkaren! for the thank you and the opt-out link. as much as i would love to get offers, i am putting the blinders on.

Opt-out done.

thats a good idea Hamoth, will hold off on the aafes card and see if they will merge them. i suppose the best way for that is by phone?

Posted (edited)

FYI.....I have had GREAT success with filing a Verizon Wireless complaint on http://planetfeedback.com A rep from their Executive Offices responded very quickly and was EXTREMELY professional. A bit shocking to be honest. You will probably have some success getting them to remove the OC tradeline as well as getting them to call off the CA dogs. Don't be shy about mentioning that you are military. I am SURE you will get some bonus points for that!

Re: Acct # 15XXXX  AND 14XXXX

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is being sent to you in response to a remark on my credit report. I do not have the full account number as it isnot listed. Be advised that this is not a refusal to pay, but a notice sent pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 USC 1692g Sec. 809 (:P that your claim is disputed and validation is requested.

This is NOT a request for “verification” or proof of my mailing address, but a request for VALIDATION made pursuant to the above named Title and Section. I respectfully request that your offices provide me with competent evidence that I have any legal obligation to pay you.

Please provide me with the following:

•  What the money you say I owe is for;

•  Explain and show me how you calculated what you say I owe;

•  Provide me with copies of any papers that show I agreed to pay what you say I owe;

•  Provide a verification or copy of any judgment if applicable;

•  Identify the original creditor;

•  Prove the Statute of Limitations has not expired on this account

•  Show me that you are licensed to collect in my state

•  Provide me with your license numbers and Registered Agent

At this time I will also inform you that if your offices have reported invalidated information to any of the 3 major Credit Bureau’s (Equifax, Experian or TransUnion) this action might constitute fraud under both Federal and State Laws. Due to this fact, if any negative mark is found on any of my credit reports by your company or the company that you represent I will not hesitate in bringing legal action against you for the following:

• Violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act

• Violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act

• Defamation of Character

If your offices are able to provide the proper documentation as requested in the following Declaration, I will require at least 30 days to investigate this information and during such time all collection activity must cease and desist.

Also during this validation period, if any action is taken which could be considered detrimental to any of my credit reports, I will consult with my legal counsel for suit. This includes any listing any information to a credit reporting repository that could be inaccurate or invalidated or verifying an account as accurate when in fact there is no provided proof that it is.

If your offices fail to respond to this validation request within 30 days from the date of your receipt, all references to this account must be deleted and completely removed from my credit file and a copy of such deletion request shall be sent to me immediately.

I would also like to request, in writing, that no telephone contact be made by your offices to my home or to my place of employment. If your offices attempt telephone communication with me, including but not limited to computer generated calls and calls or correspondence sent to or with any third parties, it will be considered harassment and I will have no choice but to file suit. All future communications with me MUST be done in writing and sent to the address noted in this letter by USPS.

It would be advisable that you assure that your records are in order before I am forced to take legal action. This is an attempt to correct your records, any information obtained shall be used for that purpose.

MILITARY STAR

3911 WALTON

WALKER ,TX 75266

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing a letter about my experience with the Military Star Card that is a mixture of a grateful "thank-you" and a pressing request concerning a Military Star Card tradeline in my credit files that I would like to have revised.

I received the Military Star Card (then called DPP) card in 1993, several years before I got a divorce from my wife. Later when I experienced the divorce and while working during Sept 11 2001 I was out of the army, I became disorganized with respect to, as you saw, making timely payments with Military Star Card. I fully recognize my responsibility with respect to payable accounts and have worked diligently to rehabilitate my relationship with Military Star Card since that time. I worked very hard to re-pay all money that aafes has said I owe them and am now paid up and current.

To be honest, that year was a "wake-up" call for me regarding fiscal organization. Since then I believe I have learned the essential organizational and financial management principles I desperately needed at that point. Thankfully, responsible credit management is now reflected in my credit records which -- excluding the Military Star Card  Charge off -- are excellent. I wish to thank you for renewing your confidence in me and for giving me a second chance at a relationship with you by issuing a new Military Star Card , one that I am determined to keep spotless.

We are about to shop for a mortgage, and it has come to my attention that the charge-off notations from Military Star Card may preclude me from taking full advantage of the very lowest interest rates now available. Since those notations do not reflect my current status with Military Star Card, I am requesting that you give me a second chance at a positive credit rating by revising those tradelines. Your customer service repesentative suggested that I write you for a "goodwill adjustment" or possibly “MERGE” the old account with the new account to show history. I sincerely hope that there is redemption at MILITARY STAR, and I beg you for such consideration. Please let me know if any additional documentation would assist in reaching a positive outcome, and I thank you again for the time you have spent reading this letter.

Very hopefully yours,

THANKS AGAIN TO CREDITBOARDS AND THOSE IN THIS THREAD, special thanks to hamoth for the merge idea, all they can do is say no. which then will try other routes.

Total of 6 certified return reciept requested sent today! Now the wait game for the return reciept.

Question:

1)So once i get the return receipt i should then dispute with the CRA the 3 collection accounts?

Should i also send a dispute letter to the CRA's about AAFES, just in case they dont mergeor delete, or just wait and see what they say?

I beleive the question you want answered are:

1.  Should you call to propose the merge?

Answer: No. Do it by mail. Stay off the phone.

"1)So once i get the return receipt i should then dispute with the CRA the 3 collection accounts?"

Yes, for the two CA letters you sent out.UNLESS you currently have investigations going on (like old addresses and name variations). You should not initiate a new dispute with a CRA untill your old or existing disputes are done. If they are not, then you jumped the gun a little.

O.k...just re-read your letters, and in my opinion, you jumped the gun a little. No biggie, it will probably work out in your favor. Keep the green cards when you get them, and save them as evidence. The CA's will probably fail to provide propper VALIDATION anyway.

Don't dispute the CA's until you finish working through your current disputes that you just sent out.

Should i also send a dispute letter to the CRA's about AAFES, just in case they dont mergeor delete, or just wait and see what they say?

No. Wait for the results of that. If you dispute with the CRA then the CRA will call them up to verify it. Kinda undermines your goodwill, doesn't it?

Welcome aboard. It sounds like you are on the right track. Don't be a stranger here. You'd be suprised how fast things change. I was away for about a week and all heck broke loose with the Privacy Guard thingy.

PS...look after my boy while he's over there. Just left late Wednesday night. We, as Americans, do appreciate all you do.

Thanks you guys!! I guess i did jump the gun a bit, am still learning here, One thing at a time, hopefully the address' will be removed quickly. np those old CA things will prob not validate, and i would be giving them more than adaquate time waitining for the address thing to clear.

I guess this is probably one of the worst parts about credit repair, THE WAITING SUX!

Np breeze its my job and i just want to make sure i bring my 9 soldiers home with me. I popped over to say hi to sarge and specarmymom on their thread.

Havenoclue we all look out for each other here, ya never know who the bad guy is, but we do know he doesnt wear an american flag on his shoulder!

But one thing is for sure, we do like to hear words of encouragement, i am amazed at my guys everyday, we have had several close calls, got banged up a lil, but they wouldnt change a thing about being here, not one of them.

Ahh i digress.. lol ok will keep the thread updated. Thanks a million all!

just asking for a lil clarification here

Now i have never recieved ANYTHING from NCO, never gotten any phonecalls, letters, etc NOTHING, nadda, Zilch. i paid verizon the money i owed them ($145) albiet late due to military deployment, but only by 2 months. but i had no idea it went to a charge off status. When i called to pay they were happy to take the payment in full and all seemed well, even got the responce "we'll bring this status up to date in our records and welcome you back to verizon" . I had no idea that NCO was involved until i pulled my CR.

NCO is now reporting Paid CO on all 3 CRA. Is this even legal? lol i know your probably thinking "welcome to what we all went through " lol. I mean really, how can they report something if i never owed them, i owed verizon and i paid verizon. Is this what i sent the DV letter out for them to prove i owed them anything?

Sorry a 10watt light bulb went off in my head as i am still learning and finally put 2 and 2 together B) . The above letter i sent to vericheck was also sent to NCO.

Just a lil clarification from you guys if i can.

lupoman,

First off, thank you for protecting my freedom by doing what you're doing.

As far as the legality, my more senior CBers may be able to answer that question.

As far as the purpose of the DV letter, yes you are correct that the purpose of the DV letter is to validate the debt with the collection agency. With some luck, the DV alone might lead to deletions. However, due to your existing name and address disputes with the CRAs, might make the execution of the 1-2 punch a little difficult. My senior CBers may be able to better advise you if you should do either an on time 1-2 punch with the possibility of extending your name and address dispute time frame, or do an extended 1-2 punch by waiting for your first disputes with the CRAs are complete.

I hope this helps.

Thanks rhl for the response. I guess i was jus anxious to begin after finding all this wealth of info and the great/helpful people on on here.

Well i hope this will be my only mistake, i take it this is kinda a minor mistake. I'll just calm down and wait it out checking MCK till i get Response Letters.

Thanks again

moreCowbell.gifVERIZON WIRELESS DELETED MY CHARGE-OFF FROM ALL THREE CRA'S!!!moreCowbell.gif

I "not mined" the crap outta the CRA's cause they never did report the PAID CO correctly. They first were showing balances, then they changed the DOLA (illegal i think), then reported as a collection account. I was getting a bit miffed.

I followed NURSEYPOO's lead and did a Planetfeed back letter, to verizon hoping for some of her luck. tHE TITLE OF THE LETTER IS "BROKEN PROMISE" Here it is straight from planet feedback with their stuff added in:

To: Verizon Wireless

The world thrives on communication today, which is why I'm so upset with the billing or payment at Verizon Wireless. Quite honestly, I'm annoyed with this issue. Just for the record, here's my home telephone information: 808-xxx-xxxx but can only be contacted by the means listed at the end of this letter as i am currently in iraq.

Here's my complaint: I am writing to you guys in reguards to a Broken promise made to me by a customer service representative with your collection accounts. The customer service representative was very nice and helpful, i only wish i had taen her name and extension down. But basicly what happened was that i reviewed my credit report as i am currently in Iraq and plan on buying a house when i return and saw that verizon wireless had a charge off on my account in the amount of $1286. I realized this was for a phone that i had lost and never paid the contract off or got a new phone. While i never recieved any notices because this was about the same time that i left the army and Schofield barracks i knew what it was for and i believe that if i owe the money i should pay. Around that time when it became a Charge off i was having major financial troubles as i was no longer in the military and had a great job working for the state of hawaii, but making half as much money as i did in the military. There were many bills past due at the time but i did not recall/know about this one. I eventually re-joined the military in Oct 2004 and got my financial situation under control.

In March 2005 i saw your entry on my credit report and remembered the situation that caused the Charge off. I immediatly called verizon wireless and spoke to someone in the collections department who was Very helpful. She explained the bill to me and asked would i like to set up a re-payment plan. I told her that i would be willing to pay ALL of the debt owed to Verizon if this tradeline would be removed from my credit report, she explained that once the debt is paid in full, verizon would remove the tradeline. I was very happy with this as it also meant that i could return as a verizon wireless customer when i returned from Iraq.

I then set up a payment program of 2 payments one for $886 which I pay'ed right then on the phone (about the beginning of April) and the next payment of $400 set for the 15th of April. I payed both payments as promised to bring this account to Paid in Full. The second Customer service representative i spoke to on the 15th of april thanked me for my final payment and said that the tradeline would be removed from all 3 credit bureau's but that they only report to the credit bureau's once a month so give it some time. She also stated "thank you again Mr. xxxx and welcome back to Verizon Wireless" this was my second concern as i didnt think the Charge off notation was going to be a problem as i was promised by 2 different customer service representatives that it would be removed. I was more concerned with getting a new verizon account when i returned from Iraq.

Now 2 months later the Charge off is still listed on my credit reports, and worse it is reporting WRONG wich is against the FACTA/FCRA, a federal law that protects consumers from wrong information reported to Credit reporting agencies. Even worse i disputed this wrong information through all 3 credit bureaus and all 3 verified that this information is correct. This is a violation of that federal law and results in hefty fines for those that report the wrong information.

I am not out to recieve any money from Verizon wireless due to these laws being broken, all i want is the Charge off removed from my credit reports as was promised so that i can get the best rates on a house when i return, and keep our good relationship so that i may continue to be a customer with verizon wireless.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Despite this problem, I'll probably continue using your company for wireless service. I do want you to know that I'll probably continue to recommend you to my friends.

Here's what I'd like to see happen:

1) Remove/delete the Verizon Charge off Tradeline from all 3 Credit reporting agencies (Equifax,Experian, and Transunion)

2) remain a customer in good standing to recieve a phone when i return to Hawaii from all this mayhem in IRAQ

I hope you get back to me soon. In this age of modern communication, seemingly simple things should not go unresolved. I'll expect a response within 10 business days.
