A Pell Grant is not a loan so it is not eligible for rehab and there would be no promissory note. You may have signed your financial aid award letter and accepted the grant offer. There is no 'forgiveness' for Pell grants.

You may owe the school a Title IV refund for your Pell grant. This means that you withdrew from school before the end of the semester and were not entitled to keep all of your Pell grant. If that's the case, then the school returned the $700 and you should not owe added fees, penalties, etc. The extra charges may be something the ca tacked on.

You can ask your school how much Pell they returned to the US Dept of Ed for the semester. That would be the amount of Pell grant you need to repay. If it has been less than 7 years, the school should have the original paperwork for the amount they returned.

You can log onto the NSLDS website and see if there is a notation about a Pell grant overpayment on your record.

i did check out the dept of ed web sight and it said i paid back 766 of 1150 and 150 of 450 leaving amount owed is 383.00 on one and 300.00 on the other. should i see if i can just repay the school that amount or maybe as the dept of ed to pay them the outstanding amount owed?

You can ask your school if they will call back the debt from the ca. If they will, then you can pay the school and forget about the fees that were added on.

If the school says no, you can try Debt Collections Services at the US Dept of Ed to see if they will take the payment directly.

Good luck on saving money!!
