I'm opted out on all 3 CRAs. Have been for about the last 6 months. Why am I getting all these CC offers in the mail? (Didn't get them before when my score was in the toilet.) Now my scores are in the low 700s and I'm getting offers from Citibank, US Bank, Discover, and others. What gives?

Just like it takes time for you to get re-circulated on the lists that are sold when you opt-back in, it takes time for the existing lists to remove you when you opt out since they are already in circulation.

Yes, but it's only recently that I've started to get offers...didn't get them before. Also, I moved at the beginning of the year and these are coming to my new address.

Do the offers contain the Pre-Screened/Opt Out language? If not they are plain old junk mail.

Not sure, I tossed a few of them. Have the Citi one here but not sure where/what to look for?

Usually on the bottom or back of the offer.

You must not be opted out or your opt-out expired

It should give you a number to call to opt out, otherwise it's just regular junk, not junk prescreened against the your credit profile. More specifically:

(1) Content. The short notice shall
state that the consumer has the right
to opt out of receiving prescreened so-
licitations, and shall provide the toll-
free number the consumer can call to
exercise that right. The short notice
also shall direct the consumer to the
existence and location of the long no-
tice, and shall state the heading for the
long notice. The short notice shall not
contain any other information.

I opted out at the beginning of the year and thought that it would only take a few weeks at most based on others experience. I just receieved a letter last week confirming my opt out. I think in some cases it takes a really long time to take effect.

It was the move. Did you rent a moving van or hire a company through a website? They sold your information. Notify the post office? They sell the change of address lists.

There are any number of ways to find you to mail offers and only one involves using your credit report. Back when my credit was NON-existent due to being young and stupid and not paying things I STILL got mailed offers for AMEX and other perfect credit cards that I knew had nothing to do with them looking at a CR.

I am starting my own web based business and one thing I have been 100% insistent on with my web developer is that there has to be a bold statement that we do NOT sell our client's contact information no matter what under any circumstance. There is no teeny tiny box hidden in 82 paragraphs of text that a client will have to "opt out" of to avoid junk mail. I can't stand websites that do this. I should not have to opt out of your spam I should have to choose to receive it.

I checked the backdoor and it still says I'm opted out. No "opt out" wording on the CC offer so it must be junk mail and I guess probably the post office sold my info bc I did have my mail forwarded.
