Hi there,

So I have loans in 2 different states. I rehabbed one of my loans and not the other. The rehabbed loans have since been assigned to Sallie Mae for servicing and are in good standing. My question is how do I determine the status of the defaulted loans and bring it current as I want to return to school in Fall 2014. I will definitely need student loans again.

Is there a way to combine the defaulted loans with my rehabbed loans? Do I have to bring them ALL out of default first?

Also, how can I find out how much Federal Aid is still available to complete my undergrad degree? I only attended school for 2 yrs and never finished my undergraduate. I wanna finish it. Will I still be able to get Federal Aid for the last two years?

Okay I found the loans. They are with ECMC. I am not sure if I tried rehabbing these particular loans before. I am going to contact them to find out if I am eligible for Rehab. First I have a couple of questions.

I am unemployed and dealing with a Total Temporary Disability. I saw the form on their website to request a Total Temp Disability deferment. However, my question is can I defer the loans even though they are currently in default? If the deferment is granted will this make me immediately Title IV eligible?

My concern is because I want to return to school in August 2014, if I rehab them will I be eligible for Title IV Financial Aid in time for the fall semester? Is it better to just try and pay these loans off before the end of the year?

If it is total and permanent disability you can get the loans discharged but then no more school for you.

ECMC, eh? Did you file a chapter 13?

Have you had experience with ECMC? My SO's loans have been taken over by them as well and he is currently doing loan rehab with them...just curious because of your comment.

I have industry experience. They are a guarantor but how they get most of the loans they have is administering them during/after a BK.

You should be able to rehab them unless it has been completed before. Maybe defer the sallie mae loans if you need to come up with money to make the rehab payments. Disability doesn't really matter if you want to make payments. As I mentioned before you could apply for a total and permanent disability discharge but then you can't go back to school for 3+ years after it is approved, or your stuck with the loans again anyways.
