I am a Marriott Rewards member, closing in on Gold status. I would LOVE to have the Chase Marriott Premier Rewards Card.

The issue, it looks like they typically pull Equifax or Experian, which for me would be an immediate denial.

Is anyone aware of any special considerations given when applying for the card if you are a Silver or Gold Rewards member?

Clearly, this is a Chase card, so they are the ones assuming the risk. Does my good standing with Marriott count when I apply or not?

Sorry, I had more info on the matter in another post, so it may not have been clear.

There are active collections on my EQ and EX. they keep popping up, I keep having them removed, maybe I get a few months clear before they return from the dead. I do not owe it, they cannot validate it, but that is another story.

For those reasons, my TU FICO is 125 points higher than EQ and EX, as apparently they either do not report to TU or it is harder for them to place it on TU, not sure why. As many times as I have fought this issue, it is always with EQ or EX. The collection has never once appeared on TU.

So I saw in the pulls database Chase usually pulls EQ or EX for Marriott. If they do, I have no shot. If they pull TU, which they do sometimes, I am fine.

What I was wondering was if there were a way to lock my EQ and EX so they had to pull TU or nothing? That way, I do not waste an inquiry for no reason.

Also, does Marriott have any pull in the matter, such as elite rewards members having lower qualifying requirements, or is that a Chase issue alone?

Thanks!

They may pull EX AND TU. They did for me. I don't think there is a rhyme or reason to why they pull who they pull, and because the bank issues the card, the Marriott status probably has nothing to do with it.

I would more think if you were an established Chase customer, they would cut you some slack. I have Chase checking, a CSP and a Freedom with decent (above 10k) limits, and my credit scores range from 743-766, and they did a double pull. Buyer beware, always expect a hard pull, and do not always think they will pull only one bureau (or even the bureau you want).

Freeze EX and EQ then apply. They pulled TU for me when I did that.

As far as approval goes, your status with Marriott has nothing to do with it. If you meet Chase's lending status, you'll get the card, if not you won't.

You have nothing to risk by freezing EXP and EFX. I have EXP frozen and Chase wants to pull it really badly for me, so if I app I get denied. Good news, no hard pull. Bad news, no Sapphire Preferred for cv91915 (or any other Chase card, for that matter).

There are ways around this. Call up the credit analyst number and ask them to pull TU. Worked for me twice before. If not, try exec customer service. When they ask why you won't unfreeze say you don't want to pay the $20 it will cost to unfreeze and re-freeze.

How long ago was this?

A few weeks ago I discussed my "freezing" situation with a banker in a Chase branch, and they could pull TU for the CSP from there, but the offer that was available from the branch was only 10,000 bonus points for signing up (vs. 40,000 online).

I had the discussion in the branch AFTER talking to an analyst via phone about my declined online CSP app, and we discussed my unwillingness to spend the money to unfreeze/refreeze EXP. He politely outlined my options, which basically were: (1) Unfreeze EXP [or give him the PIN], or (2) I could go s#it in my hat.

They've either changed policies since your experience or I just got the wrong guy, in the wrong mood, on the wrong day... Obviously, the latter is very possible.

In the last 2 years I've been approved for 2 Chase cards and 2 increases on the older card and never unfroze EX. Call and talk to CSR! Never asked for PIN or a reason why EX is frozen. You have to call, the computer sees EX frozen and gives you a denial.

Sapphire and Hyatt card but I don't think which card matters. Maybe Sapphire because of the amazing CS and may have a separate approval department but I'm guessing.

Take the 70k + 1 night offer link from above ... apply ... and see what happens. If denied, then talk to the credit analyst - they have been VERY helpful to folks lately. If you are already a Chase customer, they will know it. They want to approve you ... if you have a good reason around the collection, be ready to explain and document if needed (i.e. medical stuff they are very good about disregarding). Good luck, mj

Neither the online app nor the human at Chase would approve me with EXP frozen. I may try again with a new app and a different agent.

I am a Chase customer... With a paltry amount in checking and savings, because I also bank at fourteen other places (at last count).

Quite possible they changed policies...

If you are apping for Marriott, there is still a 70k bonus with a 1 night free certificate offer out ther, so don't settle for 50k if you don't have to:

I apped with this link last week, and was approved for the 70k promo.

Wow! I wish i had seen this before last night! I just applied for the Marriott Rewards Premier 50k version. I have EX and EQ frozen. I was approved. They pull TU. had to call in though to request TU.

I don't see the Ts and Cs spelling out the 70k. What is the required spend?

This^ I did this last night and was approved instantly for 18.5k. Ridiculous amount since I will be doing Amazon Payments for the 1k and then closing it in 11 months.

I couldn't believe the limit they auto approved me for. I was assuming I'd have to call and recon and move credit lines around to get it. I have 4 cards with them lol. #CrazyWorld

Ive read on various deal forums if you secure message them after you open the card and state you either got an offer for 70k or saw it. They add it your account. Worth a shot!

Ok, couldn't help myself, I just apped with this link and was instant approved for 8.5K, its my first Chase card, Im not sure if its going to be 50k or 70k promo, it didn't disclose on that app page so I hope I at least get the 50K points. But it did say call customer service if I needed a larger CL, not sure if I should call or just leave it at that starting limit.

What cards do you have and what are the limits?
