I just got a call from debt collector about an outstanding loan I didn't pay. He called me at work and said he was gonna sue me in court and that he would be sending a cop to serve me. He threatened to add $7000 worth of costs to the original amount. So I gave him my card information to stop him. Now I rushed home to check my credit report and the last date I made a payment on the loan was Dec 2007, so I think it's way past the SOL. Did I screw myself? He hasn't charged my card, and I called the bank to freeze the card no new payments would come in.

you are lucky that you cancelled the card before they charged it because they will wipe you out.

I am guessing this is for an old pay day loan that you had. Probably an online one.

Do not pay them a penny, they are relentless but you can fight back and not pay them. look a bit more on this board about pay day loans and how to fight back.

I guess my question is did I by any chance reset the SOL if he didn't get to charge my card?

Nope, you didn't. These callers are scum and should be reported to the Police and FTC, your AG if they are harassing you.

Glad you cancelled your card, now go in-person to the bank to make sure all your accounts are safe.

You make sure that no additional charges have been added to your account. Close the account if necessary.

If you happened to get out of this one unscathed, consider yourself very lucky.
