My hubby totaled his truck, and now needs a new vehicle ASAP. I've done very well in cleaning our credit up with a few CA that will drop off in a couple of months. Right now, though, my hubby has a recent med collection that is not valid because we were paying it in payments to the OC. The OC got impatient, though they continued to cash my checks. So...it shows a medical paid claim. I talked to the billings department, and he talked to the CA, and they agreed to drop the report from his credit. I also disputed it on one of the reports. It came off...but it is still on TU. Both departments are closed right now, so there is nothing I can do. And I accidentally locked hubby out of his TU credit report info.

So I was wondering...what if we got a loan under his current credit...and then a few months later, when I've gotten the CA straightened out and the old negative reports drop off, we get it refinanced with a much better credit report? Is that plausible? Would it be an okay idea?

I also have a couple of negatives, but they will fall off in July and August of this year...so then we can do a joint loan and get a way better rate?

To answer OP's question, that is a viable plan.

Keep in mind that auto lenders often use auto-enhanced scores, so your prospects right now may not be as bad as you think. You could also try applying at a CU and see what kind of rate they offer you... At least you'll know about where you're at.
