I got stung in the pad of my thumb by a ground wasp 2 days ago, when I accidentally grabbed him while picking up a package from my front porch. It hurt all day and up through yesterday afternoon, and then it got better. Until today. Today it started itching. Now the whole area around where I got stung itches like a .......!!

Nothing seems to help.

I'll try some of those. These critters actually hurt, not just a "little bee sting." At least the stinger didn't lodge in my hand. Gonna try some of the home made cures. I tried pred cream and some Bactine (numbs the skin) - didn't work. I hope this is a sign it's almost over.

The ground wasps are in my yard every year. If I get them out of one nest, they just build another one. They really don't live very long, so I've been trying to leave them alone. They're not aggressive - I just didn't look when I grabbed the package to take it inside. If you grab them, they do get aggressive. :D I usually have mud dobbers too. I did clean them out when they got into the A/C a couple of years ago. The funnest thing I had was a writing spider over the back picture window. It's amazing!

Supposedly wasps will not build nests with in a set radius of another nest.. I believe they make decoy nests that you can hang around which will motivate the wasps to not build near your house...

Mixed opinions as to rather the decoy nests actually work...

OUCH.

I've used this practically my whole life, and it works for mosquito bites, ant bites, and bee/wasp stings.

A paste made with Adolph's meat tenderizer. Mix a teaspoon of AMT with a few drops of water in a tablespoon. Don't make it runny. Add just enough water to make a paste. Dump that on the bite area and let it sit (best until it dries, but you can rinse and reapply as needed). You may have to rinse off and do it again, but this works.

When stung by mosquito, I get half dollar size welts. I can do this paste and they are gone with NO itching in less than an hour.

Or, you could do what my grandpa used to do, but it is so very gross. Pipe tobacco wet with water...apply to bite and let the tobacco dry.

I personally prefer the meat tenderizer. Something about an enzyme present that draws out the poison or some such thing. All I know is it worked on us as kids/adults, and now my kids do it for their kids.

Hope it is better soon.

It's ok today, thank goodness. It was itching when I went to bed last night, but not since I got up. Now I have a headache. Not related. :D But, you are right about the meat tenderizer - I didn't even think about that. I keep a bottle in my beach bag to put on jellyfish stings. It breaks down proteins, and that's what's in the venom.

Thankfully it's been years since I've been stung (highly allergic to hornets and yellow jackets), but I have had excellent results with the tobacco remedy. Pain and swelling gone in 30 minutes or less.
