I'm thinking of getting a tablet.

Other than a big price difference is one a lot better than the other? I have Amazon Prime. My phone is an iphone so I'm familiar with the layout but don't really care for itunes. It looks like Amazon has lots of free books and movies. I know I could download the kindle and Amazon app on an ipad since I did it on my phone but I'm thinking a Kindle would just be easier???

I'd use it for facebook, books, movies (we have Netflix), and maybe games.

The kindle is $269.

Ipad mini at Best Buy is $329 but there's a $30 gift card included. So more like $299.

I think it depends on what you are going to use it for.

I am a kindle lover, I have been for a long time.

But....

if it is a tablet you are looking for, I would suggest the iPad.

If you want it for reading and playing games, go for the Kindle.

Just as a side note, there is an app you can download that will let you access your amazon account and your kindle books on an iDevice. (I have never tried it though, so I can't say how it works)

As of right now, I am a little ticked at the kindle browser (mainly because it isn't displaying one of my websites correctly....even though every other browser does)

I've been reading tons of comparison charts. I'm leaning toward the Kindle more and more. Even if I preferred itunes, Amazon movies are cheaper especially since I have Prime I can get some free.

The iPad is far more than a book reader. I've been an avid user since it came out. My iPad is never more than an arms length away from me. I use it to keep my calendars, contact lists, email, net surfing, book reading, music playing, getting directions, making reservations, buying tickets, taking notes, and much, much more. I've yet to find any other device that can do everything my iPad does. I've got an HP Touchpad, Google Android tablet and a Nook tablet. They don't even come close.

I do all that, except book reading, on my iphone so I don't really need another device for that stuff.

Main uses would be books, especially when at kids sports practice stuff, and movies/tv shows while laying in bed.

I do that all on my Galaxy Tab 2...

Anyone here on my FB page knows I'm an iPad whore. I now wear glasses and still struggle with certain things. I can't imagine trying to read or game on a phone, or Kindle screen. I also have a Nook, but it's easier know that I have the Nook and Kindle apps on my iPad. I do EVERYTHING on my iPad. I haven't touched my PC or laptop since I got it.

If the price isn't an issue and you plan to use it a buttload like I do, get the iPad. *shrug*

iPad. The amazon Kindle app works perfectly on iPad. The iPad has so many more useful features for tablet usage. I the Kindle environment for apps (games) is VERY limited. And, the iPad keeps a decent resale value for upgrades.

Why get and iPad if I'm going to put the Amazon app and Kindle app on it? Why not just get the Kindle? (Not trying to argue just wondering.)

I think I'm going to check out Best Buy since they carry both and see what plays videos better. The older Kindle 7 doesn't seem to play movies very good. The HD one I like looks like they play better.

The point is that iPad handles all the Kindle functions, but in addition the iPad is capable of many day to day laptop/computer functions. For some, as Fataliya the IPad is a computer replacement. The Kindle doesn't have that capability. But, if your intended use is only for the Kindle books, limited games(remember, the android app market is limited for Kindle and is just a small fraction of what's available on apple), some movies then maybe the Kindle is right for you.

If you have Amazon Prime, to borrow books from the Kindle Owners lending library, you must borrow the book from a actual Kindle device, not another device with the Kindle app installed.

Go to a retail store and play with them both, then also check out the Nexus 7 for $199, the Samsung Galaxy tablets, and the Asus tablets.

I would go with the Kindle Fire. The screen resolution is much better than the IPAD mini, and if your main use is reading books you might appreciate the higher resolution.

Or, you might even consider a nook. The resolution on the nook (especially the 9" version), is outstanding, and they're on sale at Best buy for only 179 for the 16gb version, or 199 for the 32gb version. Barnes and Noble just made Nook compatible with Google Play, so in addition to being a great reader, you also have access to all the Google PLay apps -- including the Kindle app.

Yes, the Kindle fire resolution is better than the iPad mini, but it's not better than the iPad. The regular iPad is retina display, but the iPad mini is not.

Even though I like both the iPad and Kindle Fire if I was leaning toward the fire I would get the Google Nexus 7. Far better than the Fire with its quad core processor. Plus even though I like Amazon your not tied down to amazon you have the full android market. Just my two cents I sell them all day at my work and have talked many people into the Nexus over the Kindle.

True. But the OP mentioned the iPad Mini. ;) I've heard rumors though that the next generation iPad mini will have a retina display. We shall see. :)

I have both. The Kindle is on the shelf and the iPad is used all the time...watching movies, TV shows, videos at the gym.....checking email, name it I do it!

I tried to give my kindle to my dad, he didn't want it. I'll just keep it.

I've heard the same, I have the iPad mini and the screen resolution suck compared to my son's retina display iPad 4 or my iPhone 5.

You get a lot of free stuff from Amazon if you have a kindle. They're selling the 7" Kindle Fire HD for $149 right now. Or they were yesterday I assume it's still the same price.

I would not go for the kindle fire because whatever you can get on kindle including amazon prime instant videos can be had through an app on the iPad or android. The kindle has no camera or mic, so a little bit of a loss in functionality. The only advantage that kindle has over others is ability to borrow books.

For android in the 7" size I would get a 32 gb nexus 7. I have this and it rivals the iPad mini at a much lower price point. Prices appear to have dropped in the last couple weeks so an even better deal.

As far as user experience iOS definitely has an edge over android. There are subtle differences in the same apps on ios (vs android) which seem to make them better thought out, more useful more intuitive.

You get free FaceTime on wifi and free iMessage. Syncing indri across your phone etc is seamless. To get the same functionality out of android requires a bit of fooling around with different apps and settings. There is no iTunes access on android to bring everything together. Not to say that it's a total deal breaker, once you have your android device set up to do what you need, it works like a charm.

I ended up ordering a Kindle. Just seemed to make more sense since I have Prime.

I have a feeling my husband will want an ipad before the end of the year though. lol

You will like your Kindle. It sounds like it best fit your needs. I have a Kindle Fire (non HD - thought I want to upgrade because that screen is AWESOME) and a Nexus. I use them both but for very different things.

I have not had experience with either. So my opinion is useless. But I have seen a kindle fire a freind had and managed to browse the internet with it for a little while. I was impressed with it.
