Ok here is the deal I've been working on improving my credit score for awhile now and of the 1st of may my chapter 7 bankruptcy turned 10 years old and has disappeared from both my Experian and Transunion reports. I have one secure credit card through capital one with a $300 limit with a $40 balance right now because I just got gas. I've had it for about 16 months and never missed a payment with it. My long term goal is to buy a house. I'm hoping someone could give me a little guidance on how I should proceed.

Here is a little more info on me

I make about 60,000 a year gross

I have no car or home payment right now.

I am a member of a local credit union

My credit scores are

USAA credit monitor = Experian:655, Equifax:9002, TransUnion:667

Transunion.com = 700, Total Accounts 8, Open Accounts 2, Inquiries 3, Delinquent 0, Derogatory 3.

Smartcredit.com = 642, Creditors 5, Collections 3, Public Records 2, Inquires 3, Accounts in good standing 5, Total Negative items 2

Credit Karma = 638, Credit Cart Utilization 13%, Percent of Payments Made On-Time 100%, Age of credit History 1Yr 3Mos,

Credit Sesame = 642

As far as bad marks on my experian and transunion I have two state tax liens for about 2,500 one of which is payed off and the other I'm still working on but the one does not say released yet. On just the experian I also have a couple other old judgments that I was able to get off my transunion and I'm currently disputing on experian.

And onto negative accounts I have two medical ones that are paid and closed on both experian and transunion. And then on just the experian two collections one for $556 that from the one credit report I have from experian says its due to fall off Jun 2013 and another for 92$ for a returned check from 2007 that I'm disputing right now.

I don't really have any information for equifax as it doesn't pull right on USAA and when I went right to there site it error and there support wanted me to jump through all these hoops to get a score which I haven't done yet.

I know this is probably information overload but I just want to check and see if I should just sit tight keep working on cleaning up and waiting for stuff to fall off or should I be applying and trying to build credit at the same time?

Thanks for your time

You say you are already a member of a credit union, why don't you apply with them? Even if not approved, you might be able to get a secured card with them. Build that relationship. They probably do mortgages too.

I'm going to head down Friday and talk to someone at my credit union about a credit card or secure card. As for getting FICO scores I tried equifax awhile back and it wouldn't pull a report for me for some reason and the phone support guy wasn't any help. But I'll try again with the link provided.

Went down to my credit union and talk to someone. They suggested I do a secure loan with them using my car title as collateral to build up a credit history with them and in 9 months they will give me a credit card. She was going to try to give me a credit card but when she went to go pull my report it came back blank from equifax. I've been working with them all morning long and got it fixed now but she is still pulling a blank report. I'm suppose to hear back from her tomorrow on the title loan

So I ended up getting a loan through my credit union for 1500 using my car title as collateral today the interest rate is 8.49%. Its not really what I wanted to do but they said in 6 months of paying on this they would do a credit card for me. The other nice thing was I applied for a walmart credit card today and got approved for $600 so things are looking up.

Congradulations, it takes time to build credit. My CU started me with secured for a year. They gave me their classic card after that at $1500. I've had it for 6 months, and they are now upping me to their platinum rewards card at $5000.

Thanks everyone I'm pretty excited to start to prove my new found credit responsibility with these new lines. I really couldn't have gotten this far with out all the great information I've found on this forum.
