I have an ambulance bill from 2008 that has been in collection since 2009. It is for $1035. I just found out which ambulance company it is from and called them this afternoon. They said I could pay them directly and they would take it out of collections if I paid it in full. They also said they would cover the fees from the collection company.

Is this a good deal? Will this even help my score? Should I negotiate further? Are there specific questions I should be asking?

I am looking to refinance my house and get a new motorcycle and this is crushing my score.

What is the best way to get this fixed?

I will appreciate any info.

Follow these instructions:

http://www.whychat.5u.com/GUIDEBOOK.html

Use the HIPAA letter program

http://www.whychat.5u.com/GUIDE%20HIPAA%20PROGRAM.html

Once you have established a CURRENT relationship between the ambulance service and the reporting CA ( if the CRAs do not delete AND you get a response from the reporting CA)

You can pay the ambulance service with the HIPAA letter insert "a"

If you pay them without using this method, your reports will show the account as a "paid" collection, which is still derogatory but will be 5 years NEWER, thereby LOWERING your scores.

Please read all the instructions in the links I gave you.

The only way to establish a current relationship between the reporting CA and the OC is to send the initial dispute to the CRAs ( after opting out and deleting old addresses)

If the CRAs delete the account, then you need not do anything further.

If the reporting CA responds with documentation of the account, including a copy of the original bill, then you pay the OC ambulance service based on what the normal fees would have been for the service if you had been insured at the time. ( probably around 1/3 of the billed amount unless it was a helicopter )
