I posted this over in the BK forum but I thought maybe I would see if anyone has some insight, here.

We filed for BK7 a year ago Jan, and discharged in May 2012. There are a bunch of CA accounts from medical bills on there that all show as IIB. None of them are reported as open which I think is good. I have been reading so much on here that I am starting to get confused so I think I better just ask.

Is it generally better to try and get these off the report, or leave them alone? I have read that sometimes if they come back verified, they show a later reporting date , making the account seem more recent, thereby dropping the score. If they come off, would it be reasonable to expect that the score would go up? Would the scores possibly decrease if they were removed prematurely? If so, would that be due to a change in AAOA? I am trying to determine if it is worth it to follow the hipaa process for these accounts or just leave it alone and let them all fall off in a few years or so.

Also, I should probably wait until current disputes are complete before starting the hipaa process, is that correct?

I suggest you do the preliminary work before anything else:

Once you have opted out and gotten as many old addresses deleted as possible you can start to get your medical accounts deleted.

Even though they were IIB, does NOT necessarily mean that they were valid to begin with.

If the dates of medical service were over 2 years ago, they may have been left over written off discounted bills.

Wait until you have your other disputes resolved before trying to dispute the medical accounts.

The only time an account is "redated" is if you have PAID the CA and it changes to a "paid" collection, in your case that is obviously not going to happen.

Thank you, Why Chat. I have taken the first steps, opting out (a year ago or so), getting the real reports and getting as many of the old addresses off as I could. (Of course, EX didn't remove some of them.)

It is good to know they can't re-age the accounts. Whew!

In regards to the current disputes, the CRAs have already come back saying the disputes are complete, but technically, their 30 days are not up yet. I started the disputes in mid March, so should I wait until next month to begin work on the medical collections?

Opt out again, you may have accidently opted back in when you were doing your disputes.

Try getting your addresses deleted again, use the material here:

What do you mean when you say the CRAs stated the disputes are "complete" did you get deletions?? Wait until nex Month to start the medical disputes-- meanwhile have another go at Ex for address deletions.

Thank you again, Why Chat. I will follow those instructions.

In my state, the DMV does not issue a new license when you move. You just register your new address in their system and they tell you to print off an address label and put it on the back of your DL. The plan is to go to the DMV and get a replacement for lost license which will have the new address on it (new as of a year ago.) This way, when we send in address removal letter, we can include a copy of the DL with the accurate current address. So, it is going to be a few weeks before I can even send off the address correction letters. Maybe this is a good thing, as I have to wait to dispute via whychat method, anyway.

Also, All of our utilities are either in my name (this is for my SO) or we only get the statements electronically. Would it be appropriate or effective to send the last statement from a savings account we have with a credit union in lieu of a utility bill? Should I black out account numbers, or anything?

Yes, I disputed some of the accounts and some of them were deleted from all three of the reports, but there are still many that were "verified". All collection accounts are marked IIB.

If it was joint and you are married and your "SO"s name is on your credit reports and yours on theirs then you can send the utility bill that has your name on it Would it be appropriate or effective to send the last statement from a savings account we have with a credit union in lieu of a utility bill? Should I black out account numbers, or anything? Does your SO have a W2 with their name and address?? I do not suggest sending bank account data of any kind to any CRA
